That I can agree with. Just a bit fed up of how in the west this subject has become radioactive over the past 10 years. In some ways like as I was trying to demonstrate here, it has become farcical. Am I personally outraged by the comment in this advert, no. Do I think it is another example of disparity, yes.

I'm more concerned about what the fuck is in that box.
I'm more bothered about the misappropriation of a classic Smiths song and it's lacklustre covering by some watery tart? (©1974 monty python holdings inc). The box probably has, like, a tamagochi or buzz lightyear or whatever this year's cool toy is.
It's a dog's head. You know it is.
You're a Charlie Brooker fan, I take it?

Why can't women have fantasies of 18 year old boys? They are of concenting age here in the states. Men do the same thing.
He said "Under 18."

You know, illegal in a lot of jurisdictions.
But not in places like Britain, you know where this add is set or Canada, where Bieber is from

Yup, OP, it's a double-standard. I wish I had more to contribute to the conversation, but there isn't much to say here that hasn't been already. Guys are viewed as sexual predators for things that grown women get a pass on.

This sounds to like like a Western World Problem. You want to ogle young girls without catching flak, move to Japan.
You do realize he is making is that middle aged adults SHOULD NOT be openly fantasizing about minors right? That in a society that celebrates "equality" we should not be so willing to celebrate or at the very least turn a blind eye to behaviours like this based on sex.
My my someone didn't get the joke. Also someone quite clearly doesn't realize that North America is pretty much the only place on the planet left where the age of consent is as high as it is.

Get a sense of humour.
Err...the age of consent for about half of the US is the same as Britain's. Way to stereotype an entire CONTINENT for the laws of a considerably small portion of it.

That commercial made me =D

Anyways, I'm not sure why or to what extent it is socially acceptable for that kind of attraction. Personally, I find it a bit alien...

Caught this Xmas ad for Argos (UK's biggest catalog store) yesterday. This is the equivalent of a Macy's or Kmart Xmas ad for American readers.

Relevant section 0.33 seconds in. So another confirmation of it being socially OK for middle aged women to fantasies about under 18 males, in the this case Bieber (17).

I know it has been said many times before, with a south park episode, twilight mums etc, but now it's made it to Xmas ads.

So one rule for men, one rule for women.

Note: This is not a thread about advocating being attracted to minors before anyone starts posting along those lines, I would rather avoid moderator attention. You have been warned. It is purely a thread to once again highlight the disparity of social acceptance.

Edit: Yes, age of consent in UK is 16, but remember like most other places depictions, even drawn of under 18's being sexual is punishable by at least inclusion on a register. So I think openly lusting after an under 18 year old is not exactly 100% OK. Certainly if you were male this would cause you problems in the current climate.
I do not see the problem, men fantasied about younger women for centuries now.
Name me 1 heterosexual male in his 40 and up who do not mind looking at 18 to 19 year old females in swimwear?
In a truly equality of the sexes society, the middle age women need there eye candy too.

I DOSEN'T SHOCK that's the big issue! The vast majority would look at a woman fantasizing over a minor and see this as perfectly acceptable. Hence it being put in an add. If the father were fantasizing about Miley Cyrus this add would ACTUALLY have shock value.
Add to this that there are recent news reports in the media, most likely false but still, that Beiber was a victim of statutory rape wherein a adult woman plied him with alcohol for sex, you can see how this SHOULD have controversy, but by and large it doesn't.

Ummm... Half of the U.S. isn't an entire continent. If you think that you need to get over yourself. Age of consent In MOST of N. America is over 16.

My joke was also about the fact that here in N.America, it's taboo for middle aged people to be attracted to minors culturally, while in the Majority of the world, it isn't.

What are you talking about? If a middle aged female celebrity admitted to fantasizing about Beiber it would shock people.

And I`m sorry but 'cougars' exist as a group of women in the Western world. A group of women who's sexual preference is still a bit taboo.

The joke about the mother fantasizing about Beiber is a bit inappropriate. You never hear about women fantasizing about minors or young men in that manner.

I think you're reading a little too much into this. I mean by your logic, the husband is sexually attracted to eggnog, which being aliens, maybe, but the point is I don't get some creepy sex vibe from this commercial, just a mom who has a weird taste in music. Not every mom listens to Susan Boyle, you know.

No, No, No you people missed the point. She wants to EAT Bieber.
Even if that was the case and it is a play on words, it only works due to other women of that age thinking 'mmmm bieber....' and wanting to eat him.

Younger women, that does not mean minors. We are talking about a person who has only been 17 for a couple of months. Not an 18 or 19 year old. And if you have pictures of 16 or 17 year old's in underwear or bikinis, you are doing something potentially illegal, even in the UK

I was not making any judgments about fantasizing about younger people when I made this post, just on the disparity.

Yes, men are also called bastards and perverts for it.

So do you want to fantasize under 18 girls without people calling you a pervert? I know you don't but I just wanted you to hear that.

It's a double standard, they exist. This is not a bad one. Men who fantasize about girls under 18 are perverts.

I'm sorry, while I noticed the part you were trying to pay attention to, it was easily overshadowed to me by the fact that Bill Nighy voices the father, one of my favorite character actors of all time, especially in his roles in The Boat That Rocked (Otherwise known as Pirate Radio to fellow Americans), and Wild Target, the latter which definitely does a great job showing his acting range. Both movies that I would recommend seeing.

Now, as for the point you were trying to make, I can definitely see what you mean, but the point is, Bieber is a large, public name. And no matter how old large public names are, be they music artists, actors, or other celebrities, people are going to fantasize about them, more so if they happen to be attractive and appeal to their particular tastes.

I think the real point I need to make is that, its just a character that you're pointing the finger at, and not even an actual human character, just an alien puppet with a humans voice coming out of it. That is in no way a real person voicing their real opinion, or even someone that is outright saying that they fantasize about Justin Bieber. All in all, I think theres no real reason to be up in arms over this commercial, but that's just me. Seeing as I've never gone to Great Britain, or even really care what people fantasize about, I can't honestly say one way or another if its really wrong or not.
