Can promoting my own thread derail the underailable?

To Derail a thread is to remove it from the original intent, yes?

the intent of this thread is that it has no rails in which to derail, am I right?

Therefore to derail this thread, I would need to add some rails, as that would detract from the original intent of no railage, if you get me?

But then this thread would have rails and would not then be derailed, so in order to derail the thread, One would have to remove the rails, which would put the thread back on the metaphorical rails, as dictated in the Original Post? but then that would mean I would have to derail the thread by adding rails...

that either makes perfect or no sense.

I just conquered Greece in Rome - Total War.

Someone tell me how awesome this game is. Someone. Please. I'm beginning to think the Escapist doesn't know this game, owing to the huge number of hints I've dropped about it in the last two days with absolutely no responses.

Well as the Juili I've conqured about.. a third maybe, of the known world. My only major threat is egypt right now. The other roman families bow before me.

Ah, but I started this campaign 2 days ago. And getting past the Greek Cities/Macedon barrier as Brutii is one of the hardest parts of the game.

Quite true indeed.
Bastards with their Phalanx even though the Greek City states is my most often played faction.
Dealing with any horse heavy factions are a pain to though. All those horse archers....

Do you play it on like uber easy or something? Everytime I play, my Hastati get owned by those dmaned phalanx.

The Glass Prison is only 13 minutes... You're thinking of the second disc of the album Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence. And The Glass Prison is from the first disc. That's a cool album.

Macedon arn't much of a problem if you have plenty of Equites (about 4 units of these is sufficent to win most battles) Simpily pin their phalaxes with the Hastati, and then have the cavarly swoop in from behind. (If you have a numerical advantage, you can do this with infantry too) Also, try and break up their formations if you can as it makes flanking a lot easier. I think a good way of doing this is with some interesting positioning of your forces on the battlefield, but usually i find after an extensive march the Phalanx formations sometimes become disordered by themselves. Anyway, the key to beating phalanxes is a numerical superiority and plenty of cavalry.

Also, another pro-tip, use archers, in perticular Cretian archers, sit back and let the phalanx armies march slowly towards you whilst thinning their ranks down with volleys of arrows- makes defeating them a lot easier. I use archers a lot, 4-5 units of Cretian archers, if there fire is concentrated on one avarage sized phalanx unit will obliterate it. Archers are great for dealing with slow moving targets which are awkardly positioned where you would not want to deploy your cavarly or infantry.

Also, foot archers are the best unit type to use against mounted archers. I don't know how or why, but that how it seems to work on this game. Have some heavy infantry (legionaries who can do testudo, or spear-armed infantry units), have some heavy cavarly to guard the flanks but mainly have plenty of archers behind your lines who will turn any mounted archers to mincemeat should they come in range.

(And for the record, i think that Rome Total War is a better game as opposed to Medieval Total War- for the simple reason i can see whats happening on the battlefield when i play RTW)
