Subject Name: Xander Tarif (pronounced: Zan-der Tar-eef)
Age: 44
Gender: Male
Physical Description:
Height - 158cm (5 feet, 2 inches)
Build - Slender
Skin Colour - Light brown (Middle-Eastern)
Hair/Eye Colour - Very dark brown, almost black.
Notes
a) Close examination of healed scar tissue upon subject's torso has led us to believe that at some point in the past (yet to be determined) he received approximately thirty-two severe lacerations from a cutting instrument of some kind (most likely a knife or blade).
Dr. Matthews does not believe that said wounds were self-inflicted.
b) Eyes appear to be consistently bloodshot. Routine physical and psychological examinations of the subject have failed to determine any particular cause.
c) Left forearm is tattooed with a single horizontal string of twelve (seemingly) unrelated numbers. Possibly a serial/reference number?
d) Subject is missing a large portion of his left fourth finger (from the interphalangeal joint down). We have determined that the amputation of said digit was
not carried out surgically.
Emotional and Mental disposition: Unstable, but relatively harmless.
Subject to sudden mood-swings and occasionally violent behaviour, but generally cooperates with psychiatric nurses and behaves in a well-mannered and responsible way. Was initially diagnosed with
bipolar disorder, and later
paranoid personality disorder and
post-traumatic stress disorder (both latter illnesses are believed to have stemmed from a single event in his past, possibly related to the injuries documented above). Responds to basic questions, though generally does so via non-verbal means (ie, body language, use of a pen and paper, etc). As of yet, attempts to obtain further information regarding Tarif's past have proven almost entirely unsuccessful.
Is usually in a state of extremely anxiousness and agitation, paying close attention to his immediate environment, and often taking precautionary (and completely unnecessary) steps to protect himself from an (as of yet unidentified) imaginary hostile presence, especially before and/or during periods when he considers himself to be vulnerable (whilst sleeping, for example). As a direct result, he must undergo regular pat-down and cavity searches (subject has been known to carry makeshift weapons on and inside his person), and new nurses or visitors are instructed to look out for "booby traps" when entering his cell; these traps range from the relatively-harmless (ie, soapy puddles on the floor) to the extremely dangerous (ie, ankle-level tripwires and sharpened, faeces-covered sticks). Subject will also react badly when surprised or startled. Despite the fact that he harbours absolutely no ill-will to those who care for him (often informing them of possessed weapons and set traps), and has never attempted to physically harm, or even resist any nurses and orderlies, caution is advised when dealing with Tarif.
Reason for being committed: Instigated a hostage situation in Northampton, taking twenty-seven schoolchildren and their teacher prisoner in a standoff that lasted fifty-one hours. When contacted by police negotiators, Tarif claimed to have been himself imprisoned by British soldiers, and wanted to know "if he was safe". Police at the scene described Tarif as "a rambling madman", and his speech as "virtually incoherent". After unsuccessful attempts at negotiation, a CO19 armed response squad was summoned to the scene, prompting Tarif to surrender.
Following his arrest the courts found him clinically insane, in dire need of psychiatric help, and opted to have him sent to Madam Geria's Home for the Clinically Insane and Unruly (rather than a UK or Australian prison).
History: It is known that he served as a member of the Australian special forces detachment in Afghanistan (although the nature of his service is unknown at this time), and that in March 2011 he was declared MIA by the Australian government. Tarif's whereabouts between the time of his official "death" and the months preceding his internment within Madam Geria's Home for the Clinically Insane and Unruly (February 2013) are also unknown.
In December 2012, subject was discovered by police officers in the English city of Northampton; filthy, emaciated and sleeping inside an abandoned flat. Upon being woken, Tarif assaulted the officers using a military-issue combat knife, before managing to escape. Attempts to locate and apprehend him proved unsuccessful.
Subject was later captured when police were called to a downtown hostage situation
[see above section].
Side Notes:
a) Subject has an unsettling fascination (and skill) with knives (and bladed objects in general). He will often craft rudimentary cutting or stabbing weapons from common materials (plastic cutlery, bed frames, chunks of concrete, etc), and has been observed throwing said weapons at predetermined "target" points on his cell wall (with remarkable accuracy, I might add). Both of his encounters with the law (mentioned above) have involved the use of knives on his part.
b) Despite the limitations of the asylum, he does his best to stay in shape, and devotes a considerable amount of his free time to exercise and physical activity (generally a form of martial arts that I don't recognise, but in which he seems well-taught). Tarif may be small and wiry, but he possesses considerable physical strength (easily the match of many other inmates).
c) Regarding Tarif's service in the Australian military; I suspect that he is also well-versed in the use of firearms and other lethal weapons (probably including his fists...) and wish to caution all who deal with him on a regular basis that despite his gentle personality
he is in no way safe to be around! Do not let your guard down for whatever reason! Remember that he is, in fact, an insane man prone to periods of unjustified violence, and that he could (theoretically) turn on you for no discernible reason at any point in time!
No need to get jumpy or anything... just take care.
