I never played much of the Spyro games. The first one I played was Ripto's Rage and it remains my favourite PS1 game (I wasn't into games as much back then). Cut to years later with me not playing any of the other games. Me and a friend played Co-op with Dawn of the Dragon and I was all WTF??? 0_o I did follow the Ratchet and Clank series and it is my favourite series of games ever, but Spyro is nearly dead and I'll be sure to leave a nice bouquet of roses at his grave. Now it seem that in Spyro's final hours, they are desperately trying to save him in an attempt to make money with a Spyro movie, but all in vain. Seriously, when has a video game movie ever worked? Name me one time but that wont change my views on this movie or the up-coming Prince of Persia movie.

Rest In Peace,

you magnificent purple beast.

That's gonna blow so much!
I love the Spyro games. Well, I loved the old ones, but this takes it to far!

RIP Spyro.

Didn't pretty much the exact same thing happen with Crash?
Yes.

And as far as I'm concerned. There are no Spyro or Crash games after the PS1. What those "things" that are out now aren't Spyro or Crash games, just... husks of games that only have the same name.

The games ended on the PS1. Unless Naughty Dog and Insomniac ever take back Crash and Spyro respectively, I consider the franchises dead.

I miss the first 3 games terribly.

I hate what they did to the series so much.
Insomniac sold the series after the third game. Don't blame them.

Universal Studies did 4, terribly, and Eurocom did all the ones after. Blame them.

I wasn't a fan when I first played spyro. My sister got the game for ps1 and need help beating the game. After finally beating it I became an instant fan.

After the second game things progressively got worse for the lil purple dude.

I'll only be upset over this if the movie sucks. It needs to be made with the intention of being funny maybe throw in some mature themes like the original shrek.(not purple dragon sex you purves) They can do it right, but then again all movies based on videogames could have done it right.:[

Man, the first three games were great. Skateboarding in Spyro 3, awesome.

Insomniac knows their way around the game designing process.

I only ever played part of one on my Gamecube. Didn't like it much.
It was Gsmecube. Of course it sucked.

Did you ever play the ORIGINAL Spyro games though? Not some shoddy third party rip off that was an entirely different game?

The same thing happened to Crash Bandicoot. God dammit, why can't they leave my childhood alone.

Personally, I will not buy another Spyro game unless it is back in the hands of good ol' Insomniac. Because nobody else can do him justice.

Also, Tom Kenny is the only acceptable voice actor for Spyro. (That's not to say the voice actor from the original game wasn't good. He was. But Tom is so much better for the part, I think.)

I'm going to skip that part about Gamecube due to fear of fanboy flamewars...

Not sure if I did. I don't even remember the one I did play. I think there were several elemental types though...

I have such fond memories of the PS1 games...stupid Enter the Dragonfly butchered it. Crash Bandicoot has the same story, too. Three highly acclaimed PS1 titles (Plus a couple spin-offs) and then it all went downhill with the PS2. Ten years ago, Crash and Spyro were practically Sony's mascots, but now their games bomb and never get an ounce of publicity.

Say what you will about Sonic, but at least he still gets good handheld games and people actually listen when a new game is announced.

Oh god what?! Seriously? I mean... SERIOUSLY?!
Do these people not learn?
It's been 10 years since Spyro 3 on PS1. They have spent TEN YEARS GETTING IT WRONG AFTER THAT ONE. Which is why I have ignored every single Spyro game post PS1 (although I had the misfortune of getting the 1st PS2 one the christmas after it came out. grr).

And now a movie? Please god. Please let something utterly terrible happen to that film whilst it's still in production. I dunno. Anything. So long as it never gets any further than that one picture on IMDB...

I remember the demo coming with my PS. I absolutely loved every second of it. I never got around to playing the full version (for financial reasons, at the time), but I still loved the demo.

And Elijah Wood? I liked it better when Spyro didn't talk.
Spyro always talked. (Except in the GBA games.) The amount of lines just varied game to game.
What, really? I don't remember him talking at all. Oh wait.. didn't he have like... a snippy, smartass voice, like he had lot of attitude?

And was rather painful to listen to. Spyro was a fairly flat character in the old games- frankly he wasn't much better in the Legend series, but Legend WAS just a tad better than the old ones. (Plus, smartass actually seemed to work with Sparx.)

Well having never actually played any of the Spyro titles I shall be the positive one in this thread. How dare you condemn it to living the life of a shunned and undernourished movie based on a game based on a sequel of a sequel of a sequel of a (by all accounts good) original!

You haven't even given the film a chance. You have yet to see any trailers for heaven's sake. Ok sure it was made by the same glue sniffing cretins responsible for the Eragon movie but that doesn't mean it has to be bad, right?
