Though the decade really ends 2011 (you cant climb up a staircase from the first floor to the tenth floor and say you climbed ten stories) no one cares. What was the BEST game of the decade. For me it was Shadow of the Colossus or Portal.

Civilization 4. I've clocked over 400 hours of gaming on it after purchasing it in 2005. It's a game that keeps on giving, what with the absolutely astounding variability between scenarios. It's just as easy or difficult as I want it and on difficult it's really hard.

And then there are the expansions....

2000,2001,2002,2003,2004,2005,2006,2007,2008,2009,

I make that 10 years therefore decade or is that wrong?

Europe got Pokemon Silver in 2001 so I'll go for that. Although bioshock and "screed" 2 are up there as contenders

Not to be that guy, but I spent more time playing WoW than any other game this decade, so I'd have to put it at number 1.

No, but you can climb a staircase from the ground floor to the tenth floor and say you climbed ten stories.

For me it was WoW. And may I never play it again.

half-life 2 at #1

shadow of the colossus, bioshock, halo 1 (don't kill me), mass effect, and portal come in as runners up with no particular order

Honorable mention goes to WoW for being the most time consuming one, so it kept me entertained the longest, but the one that entertained me the most must be Portal or Assassin's Creed 2. A

Although I think AC2 could have taken a few pointers from the Sly Cooper series as far as missions buildup go. Do some stabbing and stealing here and there for preparation, then end the the particular area with an intricate, well thought scheme that requires extreme precision, sneaking and strategy. That's what made Sly 2 and 3 great. Gave the impression that you really were a couple of masterminds making plans in a dark room on how to best stick a hand down someone's pocket. And the combat was of course a bit crap. But you know what? The game did so well in terms of platforming and story that I forgave it.

1990-1999 was a decade. Hell, so was 1997-2007, but no one seems to care about THAT one.

Anyway, for the decade lasting from 2000-2009, I would say that my favorite game was Assassin's Creed II, but that was so recent it probably tainted my memories of older games. Still, it WAS a masterpiece.

This is why I have complete faith in our system of floors. Because one day it might just make an OP screw up his concept of how long a decade is.

OT: I hate picking favourites damnit. There have been quite a few greats for me.

I choose Deus Ex, 2001. Let's try bringing the oldies up.

I mean that the first floor is the ground floor. There is no floor zero or year zero so from 2000 to 2010 you do not count 2000 and it is only 9 years.

WoW for being so time consuming and just being a plain great game until recently when I lost interest and it got dull.

Runner ups would have to be Modern Warfare 1 for its awesome story and MP and probably HL2. Half life two probably edges out MW1 as it was just so ground breaking for me and did things better than any other game of the time and many games after.

Well, that's if you don't consider 2000 part of this decade... Like everyone else does.

Fallout 3 is my favorite, but I could never call it the 'best' due to its many technical flaws.

So I'm gonna go with Half Life 2.
