In my personal experience with friends and such, about half of the games I own, no one knows what they are or anything about them. It kind of sucks, because they also never want to try them out, sticking with the popular titles when we play.

Overall though, My votes would go to Space Channel Five, Gitaroo Man, Mad Maestro, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, and God Hand. Plenty of people know what God Hand is, but most have never played it, same for Stranger's Wrath.

Darkwatch for xbox and playstation. This game was equal to Halo to me, i thought it was revolutionary. Nothing better than shooting zombies and vampires in the old west.

Kingdom under fire: The Crusaders. This game has an incredibly unique style and was terribly fun, and it depresses me how little love there is for it.
Two very noteworthy games there. The former had a "controversial" vampire sex scene in it.

My picks would be Guardian Heroes (because it was on the Sega Saturn) and IK+ (because most gamers haven't been alive long enough to have played it originally).

I own Kingdom Under Fire: A War of Heroes, KUF: The Crusaders, KUF: Heroes, and KUF: Circle of Doom.

All bought at release :) in fact the first one and liking it is what made me get crusaders which pleasantly surprised me. But I already knew that Regnier = Rick Blood before it was revealed was too obvious.

That being said:

(PC)Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars

(PC)Age of Wonders(there are 1,2, and 3 with an expansion on the third, the original is still the best)

(Game Cube) Baiten Kaitos

(Xbox 360) Enchanted Arms

and probably one of my most favorite games of all times, I still play it to this day.

(PC)Sacrifice I know someone mentioned it already but its really really worth picking up if only for the humour and unique gameplay. Manahoars ftw.

Vexx.

Oh man...that was certainly a fun experience.
On a slightly unrelated note:
I find this hard to believe, but nobody but me in my school knows what Lost Odyssey is.
I love Vexx! That game is great!

I'm going to say Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, because no one I know has played or heard of it. One of my favorite Castlevania games, too.

Omikron: The Nomad Soul for PC

definitely deserves a reboot or re-release. A bit of a weird game this, sort of an open ended fighting, adventure game, pretty unique. Music by david Bowie too! It has to be about 10 years old now.

Also does anyone remember those homemade Net Yaroze games on the PS1? some of those were just excellent such as adventure game, timeslip, gravitation and many more.

Vendetta Online - A twitch-based space combat MMO.

Cortex Command - A 2d physics shooter/RTS type of game with destructable terrain and the most flexible mod system ever.

Uplink
Defcon
Darwinia

The Journeyman Project trilogy - A time travelling adventure series. Excellent for its time (Early 90s)

Virtual Villagers
The Marathon series (by Bungie)
My sister says Aquaria - An underwater 2d MetroidVania game where you, as the last of your race of fish people, want to find out what happened.

I play a lot of indie games, so I am ALWAYS in that position. Google these if you want.

Robotech: Battlecry. I don't know why people said it was mediocre. The transformations were actually useful.
Ehh... Glitchy, but it was fun.

There's this series called Mario, it's pretty good but I don't think anyone's heard of it.

Planescape Torment an AD&D Infinity Engine rpg tremendous story, atmosphere and characters but good luck getting a copy anymore *hugs box*

But its abandonware now anyhow so theres probably torrents floating around somewhere.

Bishi Bashi Special, insanely fun and addictive minigame collection for the ps1 had to bootleg it to even get it in Britain.

I don't really have many that come to mind.

Oddworld and Red Dead Revolver are relatively unknown to my real world friends, but generally are recognized online.

MDK is the only one that comes to mind that no one else seems to remember. Ahh the good old days. Which brings up Jazz Jackrabbit. Anyone else remember these, they're not that old....

I had that on my Dreamcast. It was a curious blend of RPG, first person shooter, 3D fighting and a plain old adventure game. It basically started my love affair with Quantic Dreams.

And yes.. that's where my avatar came from =P.

Glover, I'm sure someone has heard of this game.
I've heard of Glover! A odd game, I don't remember much about it.

Anyway. The Retro Game Challenge and it's Japanese only sequel, both of which I have are pretty obscure outside Japan.
