The World Ends With You.

Joshua was the one who killed you.
No wait- it was Minamimoto! Joshua saved you!
No wait, he did kill you after all.
Okay now Joshua is GOD? Wow, didn't see that coming.
And Mr. Hanekoma is not only the legendary artist CAT, he's also an angel...

That game is just one big sodding plot twist.

Damn it don't tempt me. I can't even look at what I'm typing because then I would read what you wrote. I bought the game this morning.

I think he means;

Jak 2; The Kid was actually a younger you who you have to send back in time to keep him safe, and

Jak 3; Damus being Jaks dad and Jak himself being Mar. Oh and the reveal of the Precursers.

Yeah, they were some good twists.

I think the best one for me though has to be the reveal of the Origami Killer in Heavy Rain. Never saw that one coming.

Some asshole spoiled the ending to heavy rain. I was prepared to buy a ps3 for that game but now I think I'll stick to my xbox 360.

Bioshock has it for me. I usually run about 10 different plot twists in my head while playing a game just to see if the writers are predictable. But I would never have guessed this one.

I die a little inside every time someone commends CoD 4 for it's story.

Anyway, Knights of the Old Republic - I don't know a single person that saw it coming. Man I fucking love that game.

Other than what's already been said, I think Braid had a fantastic plot twist, both in how mind-bending and plot changing it was, but also in its brilliant presentation.

But BioShock beats them all. God damn that was well done and interesting.
System Shock 2. Seriously, go play that game and then tell me that Bioshock is half the game you thought it was. Also, the twist is the same but much better executed and far superior to the one in Bioshock.
oh thank you for stepping in i thought i was going to have to OT system shock 2 anyone who has played it knows what i am talking about

For me, it would have to be 'Bioshock', 'Heavy Rain' and 'Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2' - purely for the scene where....SPOILER BELOW

Your character and 'Ghost' are shot and burned. I realised Shepherd was the bad guy very early on but this scene - for me personally - after battling it out for ages and storming towards what seemed like the rescue party - really left me shocked.

For recent games, I've got to go with the Left 4 Dead franchise: we recently got The Passing DLC which indicates that my favorite character, Bill, has become infected or something and become a creature very similar to the infected in the game's universe. Hopefully we'll be seeing the expected L4D1 DLC come out soon that will explain how that happened.
Yes, the pool of blood around him and Valve announcing that one of the original survivors is going to fucking die totally means that the one who looks dead (who is also immune) is totally infected. Totally.

OT: I dunno, never really had one that shocked me. I guess the Bioshock one was probably the best I've seen, but, as I said, I've never seen that many good ones.

Thanks to System Shock 2 I had the Bioshock twist worked out by the time the family rescue went south. So unimpressed with BS compared to System Shock 2. Weak sauce all the way.

Bioshock

You are a clone created with a simple programming. You will unquestionably do whatever someone tells you as long as the command is preluded with the phrase "Would you kindly". Atlas, your guide in the game, is actually fontaine, a criminal with intents on taking over rapture. The genius in this is how face-smackingly obvious it is, yet you never saw it coming. The moment you find out, you think back and realise that every single objective, from "Would you kindly step out of the bathysphere" To "Would you kindly go to ryan's office, and kill the son of a b****" contained this phrase. You were played from start to finish, and you never questioned it one bit. Ouch. Oh and one last thing. Due to the source of your cloning, you are technically the only son of Andrew Ryan.

I am going with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Also what is this plot twist in ME1 I people keep mentioning? I don't remember one happening in that game.
