For fighting with style: Vergil. He summons glowing blue swords. How cool is that?

For fighting with style realisticaly: Altair. His parrying and couter attack moves are very fluid and graceful.

For the most upper arm strength: Cloud/ Sephiroth. Carrying a 10kg + / 10 foot sword must require lotsa strength.

I'd say Link if you have only played one Zelda game.

If you have played many Zelda titles then links awesomeness wears off.

I would say Cloud would take Link's place because you have to admit that a 12 year old girl who can lift two cubic tonnes of sword is damn impressive.

Speaking of which...I'd put down Elric of Melniboné too...except, as far as I'm aware there've been no Elric games, a shame, but good I suppose, they'd probably try and stuff him into some kind of crappy slash em' up affair. He deserves better!
Elric doesn't really so much "wield" Stormbringer as carry it from place to place and let it do the rest.

Siegfried - Most notably in Soul Blade (Edge).

Nobility and honour that descends into darkness, madness and inevitable self destruction.
He's just a great character - with or without a sword.

Well my own laws of the universe dicate that I must choose a ninja, but which one?
I think my first choice would have been Grey Fox from MGS but he wasn't really a hero....
Then there's Raiden from MGS4 but I still can't really forgive him for MGS2.....
So that really leaves me with Ryu Hayabusa, from DOA and Ninja Gaiden.

I'd say either the Prince of Persia main character or Ryu Hayabusa...

Cause I don't like being original :p

But actually because I love the ninja Gaiden series and the first PoP game...

My knee-jerk response is to say Link, my next is Master Chief, however upon contemplating it for a good long while I decided that the honor of my vote belongs to Guts from Berserk (depending on who is translating it his name is spelled Gatsu, but the anime, recent issues, and Wikipedia state Guts so I'm going with that, plus I like to think to say "Guts, yes he has some, they were yours, and now he is throwing them all over the place like confetti at new years in times square.") I pick him because he is a decent guy in a fairly realistic (toss away the supernatural crap and it is probably dead on) interpretation of medieval Europe (I reiterate, because it bears doing so, toss out the supernatural crap) but he is a fairly decent guy by our standards, he doesn't put up with criminals of any sort, he tends to go out of his way to hunt down rapists, he will protect innocents when he can, his eyes are open and undiluted by religion, superstition, or ignorance, he isn't afraid to fight dirty because he is just a normal (hahahahaha...ok I can't say that with a straight face), he realizes that he has personal demons and he does everything in his power to fight them and behave like a civilized creature, unfortunately some of them are of the "I'm gonna possess a horse and rape this girl" kind but he finds those are the easiest to deal with, the hardest one is the one in his brain. He also inspires hope in the people he meets, which is a rare quality in any day in age, especially the times in which he was born.

Hmmmmm. . . I'm going off the board and saying someone who uses a sword like it's a sword.

Samanosuke Akechi. No flashy acrobatics, no super-powered glowing blade thiny, just good old stand and fight (with the occasional magic attack.) It's subtle, but I like it because it's very realistic.

And I don't remember a sword being there; I remember a bowling ball, a TV, a lampost, a guitar...I could go on. I'm pretty sure there was a weak plastic toy sword though
There was a big ol' katana and I think there was a reasonably sized broadsword, but then I might be confusing that with an axe. And I'd say he probably could be considered an anti-hero, however many, many other sword wielding video game heros could easily ruin him.

Miyamoto Musashi.

The greatest samurai of all time, featured in several video games, manga, and anime, as well a living samurai from the fuedal era of Japan. He didn't have any super powers, nor did he have any magical swords, but he never lost a battle and his first victory over a samurai was when he was thirteen years old.

And in some renditions of the tale, he defeated seventy trained samurai of a prominent sword school at once. He perfected the technique of wielding two swords with his own personal style, Nitouichi [Two swords as one], and I'd like to see Master Chief duel anyone. The best he does is run up behind them and bash 'em in the head.

Also, several characters from video games are based off of him, such as Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown, Mitsurugi from Soul Calibur, Frandar Hunding from the Elder Scrolls universe, etc.

That is true Miyamoto Musashi also gains props for being a historical figure. Crazy as it may be Guts is amazingly similar to a historical figure as well, guy with one metal arm who kept fighting long after he lost his original, similar name too. I still like Guts because he gave hope to people in a time and place where that was fleeting.

It's between Raziel and Kain (Legacy of Kain) for me. Both guys are excellent fighters and their blades destroy souls.

Edit: made up my mind. Kain wins in the long run by having an awesome voice actor (though I have much love and respect for Michael Bell).

That and Kain has the powers (pretty much) of a god!

When will you people learn.

The answer is Sephiroth, it has always been, and will always be, Sephiroth

Don't tell me he's not a hero, he's just evil. Little baby Supervillains find him a hero, and would you tell a baby they were wrong in their role models?

Sephiroth, end this thread.
How could I fucking forget him?!?!?! Forget what I said before! Seph is the best!!!
