"Why bother with Ra's al Ghul in the first place?"

Because Liam Neeson, that's why.

the whole time I was thinking why Alfred left? I was expecting "Master Wayne, I am going to protect you." Instead he pissed off for half the movie

The whole "Blake is really Robin" twist almost made me cheer out, because after watching the first trailer with him in it, I fuckin knew that he was gonna take over for Batman and probably be the new Robin/Nightwing. AND I WAS RIGHT!

hold on... Are you telling me that this video has spoilers in it?

6 Batman themed Big Pictures in a row?
New record!
They are not in a row.. You missed the Worlds within worlds right smack dab in the middle.
Oh damn, you're right.

Are you sure that one didn't have a Batman reference in there somewhere?
Ahhh, well, it's not my record.

Worlds Within Worlds wasn't Batman themed, and On the Subject of Violence was only somewhat related.
I counted Subject of Violence but I totally forgot about Worlds Within Worlds...

Which is a shame because I really liked that episode.

Oh well I was wrong on the internet. That won't come back to bite me any time soon.

Did anyone else groan when Blake revealed how he figured out Bruce was Robin?

Something to the effect of "you should up at the orphanage in a fancy car with a hot woman on your arm and a smile on your face. I saw the look on your face and that's when I knew who you were, because it's the same look I learned to wear."

What? So...every orphan that's learned to "hide it" figures out that Bruce is Batman by looking at his face? Even if a child/early teen looks at him and says "he's hiding SOMETHING behind that fake smile," the something just has to be that he's Batman? Not that that he's a man that's hurting, and using women, cars, and wealth to numb the pain? No, that's not it. Of course. Not. He must be Batman. That's the only logical conclusion. Even though the movie tries to ham-fist the point that "anyone could be Batman." As opposed to "anyone with a vast, unmeasured, disposable income."

And why was there more than 1 Tumbler? In Begins, Fox said these are all prototypes. Not in production on ANY level. They couldn't get the Tumbler to work, so they built more? With guns and missiles? For what? To replace the military's Humvee? As opposed to simply mounting the Humvee with the same ordinance? Was Wayne Industries hoping to sell Tumblers, even after it's been well documented that Batman drives (drove) one?
- Wow! What an interesting coincidence that the Batman drove something just like this

Or would they say "When we saw news coverage of The Batman driving this, we got right to work on recreating it. Based entirely on the footage that Gotham news chopper One provided."

Soooooooooo fed up of this '90s comics sucked' bullcrap. Why? Because Vertigo.

Also, not all hero replacements were extreme and edgy. For example - Connor Hawke, the second Green Arrow and devout Buddhist vegetarian (and all-round kickass character).
There was some great stuff that came out of the 90's, or that the seeds for where laid in the 90's. Stuff like the Thunderbolts, and there were some interesting new characters and some interesting re-introductions of some old ones. Stuff like Connor Hawke taking over as Green Arrow were great. I always really liked some of the Wally West Flash and the Introduction of Bart Allen as Impulse. There were lots of other really interesting little corners of the comics universe that were well worthwhile, and should be appreciated and retained. (not all change should be disgarded or reset to status quo.)

BUT with that said, it is still easy to understand the overall disdain for 90's comics in general. It was the era where the artist became the rock star, and story and character suffered horribly for it. It was the era when creators began to own a piece of the new characters not simply publishers, and as a result we got spammed with thousands of poorly drawn look alike fantasy wet dream characters that everyone was hoping would make them gazillions, rather than good stories with the classic characters that we all loved. And all of them were sporting big shoulderpads, way too many pouches in the weirdest of places, vacant stares into nothingness, and enough teeth to creep a shark out. It got worse later in the 90's when computer coloring became common and every hero had glowing neon accents everywhere.

Yeah some of the other comics eras have had their own degree of scary cheesiness. Some of the 70's fads of B movie'ish Satanism and Occult, Monsters and Blacksploitation come to mind. But somehow those all still managed to maintain a certain charm. They gave us stuff that withstood the test of time, like Ghost Rider and Luke Cage. The writing and stories back then were good enough to be supported and evolve. Compare that to some of the primo 90's drek such as X Man, or Cable (does anybody really understand his story? Or his powers? I mean beyond he is the uber super artists childish pov character that can do anything always?)

So I don't read a lot of comic books, but I did read The Long Halloween and The Killing Joke and saw those referenced heavily in The Dark Knight. Heavily. Like a lot. Like he would have had to have read those books and liked those books and wanted to use elements from those books in the original story he told. Same with Batman: Year One in the first movie.

Nolan held comic books in condescending contempt? Love your opinion, Bob, but what the hell are you talking about?

Yay! Clueless Morgan! Ahem...sorry.

I think one of the things I love most about Morrison is his engagement with canon. He really respects that aspect of comics like few others do. The loving parody of Silver Age comics through characters like Flex Mentallo make him easily my favorite writer of mainstream comics. Who else would have even dreamed of bringing Bat Mite back?

I had a few reasons for not figuring out Talia was in this movie. One. I believed wholeheartedly that nobody would be so stupid as to give all the backstory we learned for Bane to someone else. I didn't think anyone would be stupid enough to make Bane the puppet in the last twenty minutes. And I thought they were stupid enough to give Bane Talia's origin to make him more interesting as opposed to putting her in.

That last one should tell you just how little I thought of the movie as a whole.

If there were any further proof needed that Bob is a lousy critic - he presents it himself.

Essentially saying in this video that he cannot watch a movie on it's own merits and instead chooses to ***** and moan about source material he has run through wikipedia and claim superiority over viewing audiences because he "totally knew this was gonna happen".

Bob, that is not a sign of a good critic. It's the sign of a drooling fanboy who can't distinguish the differences between mediums.
I think the point of this video (as stated in the opening) is an "in case you were wondering" explanation of some of the more comic-booky plot points, for the benefit of people who don't read comics.

Seems like a reasonable thing to do. I thought it was interesting. *shrug*

I haven't watched DKR. I watched this episode and still don't feel spoiled.
