Probably Quake 2 (also Quake 3 and 4) or Doom 3 honestly. I love Id, but with Quake 2 I was expecting more of the dirty, gothic, monster infested castles and caverns with a nice Lovecraftian paint brush slapped over the whole thing. Instead I got a generic space marine fighting cyborgs. I hope to god there's at least a reappearance of the fiend in Rage. I know there won't be, but still. With Doom 3 I expected a graphic/design advancement of Doom, with plenty of monsters to use as cannon fodder and fast and furious gameplay. Instead I got pitch black corridors with one or two enemies coming out of a closet behind me.

I don't know really. Maybe COD4. Infinity Ward went from a great skillful game in online multiplayer in COD2, where the guns actually had recoil and you had to be able to use them, to a camping spray fest where cheap perks would get you to the top of the leaderboard and killstreak rewards which got you more cheap kills and encouraged more people to camp to get them in COD4. Then Modern Warfare 2 made it even worse.

Oh yeah and Prototype. I got it and the whole "Yeah I'm a badass" thing got old after half an hour, the story sucked, the side missions were repetititve, the main missions sucked, the enemies were cheap as fuck, the bosses were even cheaper, getting hit with rockets and falling every two seconds and then getting twenty strike packages on me sucked, the stealth sucked, the graphics sucked and just about everything else sucked. I traded it in for inFAMOUS as soon as I finished it. Best thing I ever did.

Soul Caliber 4. I was looking for a nice fighter I could get right into. I spent lots of time on the single player learning the moves. Then I went online and found that everyone just spammed Kilik or spammed the same move over and over with a character so I never played it again and bought Blazblue.

Assassin's Creed 1. I was so hyped up for this when I didn't have any current gen system and it looked amazing. I pretty much came into this gen because I heard about this game. I done the first assassination and thought it was great..........then realized you do that again eleven times in a row and never played it for months.

Brutal Legend. I played the demo and it seemed to be a full on action game with awesome music while cruising about the land of metal in your awesome car. Then I bought it off a friend and it started out as a nice hack and slasher, then I got some shitty watered down RTS fights for the rest of the damn game.

Fable 2, for the same reasons as you really. The jobs got soooooo boring, the game was short as fuck, the last boss sucked, the 'open world' was a linear corridor, the 'huge main city' was like three tiny areas seperated by loading screens, the combat was easy, the 'unrivaled NPC interaction' was just a minigame where you had to choose the right expression and spam it enough times so they'll mary you. I should've known Molneyeux was talking out of his ass again.

Half-Life 2: Episode 2.

Okay I'm kidding. Spore is still the most disappointing game I have ever played.
Why?

OT: I'd have to go with a point in the game and not the entire one. When you put on the big daddy suit in Bioshock it just went downhill real quick. A game that just let me down completely would have to be Dawn of War: Soulstorm it just didn't feel as good as the first 2 expansion packs and the original itself. But i did love Dawn of War 2 even though i just like my tyranids

Soul Caliber 4
at first try, instantly turned my ps3 off, upon hearing this guy with deep voice saying: "SOUL CALIBER 4!!". I didn't even laugh.
on second try(muted the damn thing), I started, fought for about an hour, getting my ass kicked, but still managing to finish it, in some way... I'll never play it again...
tought about fireing into the sun, but the sun doesn't deserve such cruelty...

I have a list actually, ordered in the least to the worst let down ever:

Halo 3
Madworld
Blue Dragon
Assasain's Creed 1
CoD W@W
Haze
Devil May Cry 4
Soul Calibur 4
LittleBigPlanet
Final Fantasy XII
Spore (Actually scratch that, just ANY game that EA has made since Sims 2)

And the biggest let down was...

Brutal Legend. How the hell do you just sneak in RTS elements into what was advertized as a full on action game? And then how do you make that half of the game!?

Runners up: new Prince of Persia, Fable 2, and Half-Life

If we go simply by events related to gaming, I'm going with the time I pre-ordered The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker because in doing so I was promised an Ocarina of Time: Master Quest disc. Turns out the store I ordered from only got 3 copies of the bonus disc to go along with the 6 pre-orders for the game. Also, guess who was number 4 on the list? The only compensation I got was watching the store go out of buisiness a few months later.

But an actual game? Fable takes the cake, for sure. I remember watching the events leading to the release of this game. It was hyped beyond belief. It came out, and the reviewers said, "it's not as good as was advertised, but it's still good." I played the game later, and I found it to be a bad game. Sorry to all you Fable fans out there, but a buggy, shallow action RPG that barely lasts 10 hours does not constitute a good game in my books.

Honourable mention goes to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II for being an incomplete glitchfest. Yeah, the first game had no lack of glitches, but at least it didn't feel like the game was unfinished.

Gotta agree with u, Fable 2. it got boring quick, and the game had an ungodly amount of glitches (the annoying kind), well compared to most games it did. The online play for some reason was a big letdown, i guess i could blame my internet connection for the constant lag.
OH trust me, the multiplayer sucked. It was the same thing, but you couldn't move to far away from your teamate, or you would be forced to run in place until he got closer to you, and the farther you get from him, the higher the camera gets.

Most definately Spore. That's the biggest gaming let down I have felt EVER. it's boring, dull and horribly dumbed down compared to what it was supposed to be.
The most annoying thing is the fact that it is VISIBLE that the game straight out of the Will Wright's vision was just pure AWESOME (the gameplays reaching about 2 years before the premiere. Especially about the space era). But than EA came in and said:
"meh, to hard make it casual enough" AND THEY FUCKED IT UP BAD. I remember reading first reviews getting 9/10 and calling it "Great yet not completely polished" and thinking "meh patches will fix that".
I WAS F*ING WRONG.

Will if you disappoint me like that AGAIN I will never believe you any more. I'm saying that cause just after Spore was released he resigned to from working at Maxis.

Shadow of the Colossus. I couldn't stand the idiot you played as, I couldn't get into what story you actually were told, the horse was never as useful as everyone says it is, and the Colossi had absolutely no reason to die. They just, stood there, then flailed around pathetically as you stabbed their kidneys out.

And Red Faction Guerilla. The buildings not respawning killed off the whole novelty of breaking down walls very, very quickly.

Deus Ex is still my favorite Game (i suppose it always will be), so i say DX:Invisible War.

It wasn't "terrible" and i didn't even expect it to be as good as the first one, but they took out almost everything that made the original such a great experience.
I hope DX III will be better, but... .
