Wolfe looked deep in thought for a moment, but broke it.
"Well, I heard you mention something about a brother. What happened to him?" Hopefully it's not too much of a touchy subject. Think Henry...If she breaks out crying, you're there to comfort her...
He now looked at Bridget.
not now man, it's 2am and i'm really tired, i'll be finishing watching a video, checking advancement of plot and then turning in, will post when i'm up and ready later on
Bridget's eyes filled with tears but she wiped them away with the hand that wasn't holding Wolfe's hand.
"He left me at the start of all this. I forget why but he said he'd find me once he returned. Long story short, he gave me this hideout and a wooden sword which rotted the first time I found you. He made sure I had clothes and food and then he kissed me on the cheek and left. I haven't seen him since and figured it's time to find him. So I left and found you." She blushed again and twisted her torso so she was looking at him.
"What are your plans? Make a civilization? Find someone? Any motivation?" Interrogation time?
Wolfe looked deep in thought once more. "Well, yes. It's logically the best way to survive."
He looked right back at her.
"With a civilization in place, would could happen is the pushing back of these things, until eventually they are either contained, or completely wiped out."
Wolfe looked away for a moment, as if looking for something in the distance. He then turned back to her.
"And your goals are to look for your brother, I'm guessing. Do you have any idea where he went? Could he have gone looking for you parents? I'm only asking because I care about you. And your brother seems to be really close, from what I've seen." Wolfe left at that, not wanting to embarrass her with details. Not too heavily now...
The tears had started in her eyes again and this time she didn't wipe them off.
"I don't know. He just told me to stay alive and that he'd find me. I think maybe he went to go find a safehaven or a cure..." Bridget looked down after talkin
g and her tears dripped down onto the sidewalk. Open up to him
Bridget move closer to Wolfe.
"Can I live in your civilization? I'm a good fighter. I was trained by my father for stealth and swordsfighting"
"Of course you can. I'm not going to turn anyone away. Even if you weren't a good fighter."
Wolfe thought for just a moment. Safe haven...Hmmm...Where could be considered a safe haven these days?
"Trained by your father? Did he actively fight in the great war? The war that ended 10 years ago?"
Did he actively fight in the war? Could it be he's from a different tribe? He's not a cheetah
"He fought in it, yes. Did you or your parents fight in the war? I don't want to know what tribe though. It could cause problems" Bridget said, sliding closer to Wolfe. Henry is his name.
Wolfe was resisting the urge to be a smart-ass. They're called factions, but I don't want to be rude...
"Well, my father simply watched the door for the full 10 years, keeping both me, and my mother safe, so neither parent fought in the war. Those ten years were spent behind a blockade of furniture as the fighting happened on the streets outside of my home. He watched the door with the Springfield I use now..." Something gives me the feeling her father was a Cheetah. They mainly used stealth tactics...As her father had taught her...
Bridget was now unable to slide anymore further towards Henry since she was now coming into contact with him. She placed the hand that was holding his on her leg.
"And they got to him? I mean-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring that up. My parents were killed too, but I had to stab them before anything happened." Bridget explained to Henry, remembering the day that her brother had left her.
"Those things didn't get to my parents, no no, they took the cause of this entire mess. That damned miracle cure. All of this was just a side-effect of that." He looked somewhat saddened, but for the most part neutral. He looked deep in thought for another minute.
"You've seen my father, after he leaped at that window...You've seen what he's become? Well, there was a time when he was actually respectable...That was until the day I left, when the change had started. He gave me his rifle, and knife, and told me to leave. Never return. Never look back. I don't know what happened to my mother...I'm assuming she became like him." Henry then looked up to her. "That has all happened. It's the past. It still matters, but the future matters more."
She rested her head on his shoulder and smiled.
"The past matters more than the future." she whispered before looking back out to the sunset and catching a glimpse of the man following the infected again. Don't think of him. He'll probably die soon anyways
Bridget closed her eyes and listened to the comforting sound of Henry's heartbeat.
"Actually...Nothing matters more than the present..."
Wolfe sat his guard completely down, as he finally relaxed. The first time in a long time. Is this really...Happening? Not some trick? Some cruel trick?
He watched the city below, allowing Bridget to rest her head on his shoulder.
"I meant the present" Bridget said, smiling and comforted by the sound of Henry's breathing. She slowly took her head off his shoulder.
"Anything else?" she asked him, blushing a little in her cheeks. Her hand was warming up but she didn't want to let go of his hand.
"Well, no. I guess that's it. Any questions about me?" Wolfe continued to look at her, seeming to study her features. I wonder if she really has any questions at all. Probably not.
"A couple" she responded staring back into his eyes. He's so-
"For starters, why were you on that roof. Secondly, what are you good at. I'm only asking that because I figured it might help later on. And thirdly, what do you think of me?" Bridget rested her head back on his shoulder, her hair draping around his arm. beautiful is what Dan said
Good lord you guys can post. I sign in and I see six new pages!?! It's gonna be hard to integrate my character into this...
Jaden stared at the two thin legs dangling off the roof as he listened to the conversation. He was very confused.
He had followed the cry, and had caught a glimpse of two figures disappearing into a building. Approaching the building, he had hung back before introducing himself out of sheer nervousness, and had listened with growing fascination at the bizarre drama unfolding within.
Was this what it meant to have friends? Was this what normal people were like? Nothing in the books he'd read about had ever mentioned something like this. Either he had vastly misinterpreted the majority of the things he'd ever read, or these people were unstable, unbalanced, unreliable and possibly insane.
He listened as they fought amongst each other. He watched their foray into a clothing store. He averted his eyes at the sight of the semi-naked girl. He gazed, open mouthed, at the mutants and the way the people fought them. He stayed motionless as the monster-hunting stranger came within five feet of his hiding place. He wondered if he wasn't better off in the bunker. He had, in short, the most eventful night of his entire life.
And now here he was, in the shadows behind a dumpster, listening to the two people above him having a decidedly strange conversation.
He would not introduce himself, not yet; he was, frankly, too terrified of these strange people to meet them in person. But he would follow them. Hopefully they would show some semblance of sanity soon.
"Why I was on the roof was because it was the closest safe place, as I was applying for a job at the Casthine building before things got really bad. Also, I enjoy being able to have an overlook of the city."
Wolfe nodded briefly, before continuing.
"I'm a marksman...Fully capable with my rifle, a side-arm, preferably a pistol, and also, I'm good with my knife. Technologies are also my specialty."
Wolfe hesitated for a moment before continuing on.
"Thirdly...what I think of you...Well...This one is a bit harder...You are beautiful, as Dan had said...But there is more. Much more. I can really only spill it after you say what you think of me."
Bridget giggled and blushed.
"What I think of you? I think this will show it" She said before leaning in and kissing Henry. I just met him too...are we being watched
A chill went through her spine and she stopped the kiss with Henry. She leaned her head against his arm again and stared out, trying to find whoever was watching them.
As Jaden watched, the girl leaned in to the guy. Was she whispering something to him?
Then she went still. She looked around, including near where he was hiding.
The urge to run swept over him and was gone almost immediately. It was dark, he was hidden, he was perfectly still. He closed his eyes, so that they wouldn't reflect any light, slowed his breathing, and waited.
