Jaden sat on the edge of the roof, trying to figure out how everything had turned out this way. Insofar as he could figure, complications between the girl and the rest of the survivors had resulted in everybody leaving in different directions for different reasons.
Perhaps this was how things had to be. Well, he wasn't one to judge.
His thoughts were interrupted by gunfire. That was happening a lot recently. Looking down from his vantage point, he could see a flurry of activity a few streets down, in the direction Bridget and Henry had gone.
I may not be of much use in combat, but I can't simply remain here, he thought to himself. They had helped him, and he had to at least make an effort. Besides, even though they could probably handle things themselves, it was still worth investigating.
He quickly ran down the stairs and through the building, making his way hurriedly along the street in the direction of the shots.
