This.
There's a reason why this guy is the most mentioned name so far.

The only boss that can perfect you every single time through no fault of your own if his AI lets him. It isn't "this guy has some pretty bullshit stuff" or even "you have to pull a perfect game". No. If the AI says so, you can't win. That's the definition of cheap.

High priority, near-instant, no-recovery, AoE 10-second stuns can fuck off.

the tuffest boss ive ever fought in any game was actualy just a random mini boss.

game diablo 2:
boss: a named spider
observed properties: life regen, aura (damage return), magic resistant, fire imune

It took one hit from me and I DIED!

our tactic for beating it involved runing round like lunies with bows trying to poison it to death, while using skellies to get in the way - took bloody ages.

There were 2 of us and the 'dificulty' was set to 8 players tho - this may account for the effort involved. in my estimation this little spider was about 5 times nastier than diablo.

I'd have to say One-eyed Jack from Borderlands. I ran him over in a runner. The bandits can't have hired that guy for more than minimum wage.

Oh, you meant hard to beat. I'm not really sure.

Although not really a boss, the Will o' the Wisps in Oblivion were by far the cheapest enemies I've ever had to fight. Simultaneously draining your health, magicka and fatigue while healing themselves and having invincibility to normal weapons--that's bullcrap.

Jinpachi is probably the most broken.

Devil May Cry 3, Heaven or Hell mode - Every boss in the damn game.
You're kidding, right? One bullet from Ebony and Ivory will kill pretty much all the bosses. Not to mention the crazy crap you can pull with Quicksilver.

Heaven or Hell Mode isn't hard, it's just unforgiving. And boring.

Oh, and I'd like to add Magaki (King of Fighters XI) and second whoever said Hiruko from Shinobi. I just couldn't get close to him fast enough, so he kept teleporting around, and it's just about impossible to dodge all the attacks unless you're insanely good at timing jumps/dashes.

Haha the Reaper in God Of War, the one on psp. Sorry, don't own it, just played it at a friends. But yeah, he has to kill you to advance the storyline. You can either let him kill you straight out or, as I did, attack him for a while until he uses an undodgeable one hit kill attack. Fairly cheap, no? :p

Any platforming Boss:

Where does it say in Platforming Boss handbook that they should stand in the middle of a ring, near possible weaknesses to them and Shoot a few area attacks and charge moves?

If I was a boss I'd attack from the HILLS

I would have to say the camera in Ninja Gaiden 2 on x-box 360.
and yes, when you play it on master ninja, you are allowed to count the sucky camera as an extra boss (if not the worst one).

I notice a lot of people saying about the Prototype bosses, but I actually thought it was the other way round in a way. I felt like the cheap one for the way I beat them, but the problem is, if you don't play dirty, you won't be playing long. Elizabeth Greene was pretty easy, the 'extendo-tentacle of death' pretty much solved that battle for me.
It does make it easier that your character has no moral compass, so play as dirty as you like, no one's going to judge you. :p

As for the Al Bhed Psyches on Blitzball, they may be hard, but there's no better feeling than the first time you beat them. Except maybe forcing the Ronsos to concede a match before it was over, can't remember what the score was, but I felt pretty damn proud, especially with a team made up of only the original Aurochs. ;)

As for Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts (the first one, I never got in to the second), I wouldn't say he got really cheap until he used Angel (EDIT: For those who don't know, Angel instantly reduces you to 1HP and 0MP). Unless you count the fact that he had at least one whole invisible health bar, so there were times when you wouldn't know if you'd done any damage to him at all.

the boost gaurdian from metroid prime 2. while certainly not the cheapest boss ever,it certainly is cheap, what with having a nearly undodgeble attck( and when you dodge it, it's through luck.) that takes off about 50-70 damage(which is a crapload at that point.), having an invincible form until you've hit him with like 8-11 bombs, constantly spawning enimies, and your life is constantly draining. if that's not cheap, then my foot is made out of cheese.

Actually yes, someone on this site told me that a while ago.

However it was after I beat the damn thing on the hardest difficulty, and I'm still pissed about it since it didn't really give me any indication where to go.

Still, it was nice to go back and fucking destroy that thing knowing about the lower level...

Dude, play DoA4... When you get to the final boss. Tell me that NG2 was still made by Hitler, because if it was made by Hitler, then DOA4's boss was made by Satan himself.

Yes, that move was ridiculous. Also, she could disappear and reappear whenever she felt like it. Since you couldn't play or practice as her, it was very difficult to counter her moves.
*sigh*

Any boss in IWBTG, but then again it's never fair to use that game in a discussion like this.

Kangaxx and Beholders are really cheap in BG2 unless you use a cheap trick yourself. Without the Shield of Balduran to protect you, Beholder groups kill you so fast you don't have time to even cross the room and get to them - and Kangaxx has huge resistance to all damage, has a lich first form which has all the usual nasties like Time Stop and Horrid Wilting to screw your party over from the start, and then when his second form starts he does a party-wide instant death spell (which is easy to resist, but can randomly kill a few of your characters if not protected) and then starts spamming Imprisonment, a permanent (barring Freedom scrolls) irresistable instant-death spell. So, if you don't do anything cheap, he'll sit there nigh-on-indestructible and will unavoidably wipe out your party one member at a time.
If you use an Improved Mace of Disruption to instantly kill him or a protection from magic or undead scroll to render his only attack useless, however... This is almost the only way to beat him.
I agree with the IWBTG part now lets never speak of it again so I can repress my anger towards it.
