NYC is less than 30 miles from me. I would without a doubt be dead.
Maybe if you're a fussy old lady. If you're on the New Jersey side, you should do pretty well with most conventional nukes (and certainly a Hiroshima sized nuke) as far as blast radius goes. As for radiation, closing up your house and getting into your basement for a few weeks is actually pretty decent.

Well since the nearest city is Reykjavík and I live some 450 km away I think I'll be just fine.

Well the "nearest" city from me is Glascow thats 800 miles(1300 km) away. Guess I'm pretty safe. I'd be more affected by the lost trade and the EU collectively losing their minds in terrorist hysteria.

Well, the closest city is Portland, Oregon. I'm far enough away that the explosion itself wouldn't be a problem. The problem would come from the fact that the river that runs right by town, also runs through Portland so it would most likely bring all kinds of problems from there to here. Luckily, I also live near the larger city of Seattle, Washington, so the food supplies should still arrive.

Cleveland gets nuked.

Which means Cleveland will look and act almost entirely the same.

I mean really, have you ever been there?
Wait a minute, Cleveland hasn't already been nuked?

I'll be safe from the actual blast (I think) but the radiation will be the thing to fuck me over, depending on which way the wind blows.

Then again England is an island, so no matter where the wind blows, it'll probably still get me anyway.

I live roughly 15 miles southwest of Hartford, CT. Depending on the size of the bomb and prevailing winds (which generally are from the southwest, so blowing the right direction) I wouldn't be severely affected immediately. Of course, Hartford is the state capital, and the financial center for the state, so there would be significant disruptions in civil life.

Also, Hartford is the headquarters for several major insurance companies, so their operations would be impacted in a major way.

I'm also near Waterbury (roughly 100,000 people) which is west of me; a strike there would have more immediate effect. I'd be within the outer zone of thermal damage for a 1.4 mt bomb, and the prevailing winds would bring the fallout directly to me. Plus the school where I work, and the hospital where my wife works, would both be annihilated.

Considering we're talking in the nuclear tactics sense, I'm guessing "city" means "population area with strategic value." While a nuke on New York can devastate the US and the world economies, a nuke on Topeka, Kansas will be a waste.
Unfortunately, I live 15 miles from the Air War College and the major MEPS hub of the region, so I'd be pretty boned. Even if I survive the initial blast radius, I have to content with fallout.

Cleveland Ohio? yes i have been there, and my favorite divorced grandparents live there. always such a cheery fellow gramps. and my dad's lifelong best friend, so yeah, it would suck ass if Cleveland got nuked. not to mention the fallout would likely hit chicago and/or pollute the great lakes a good bit, which sucks for EVERYONE in the midwest.

Who would nuke us? More importantly, who would care?

In anycase, I'm gone with it.

[sub]City name is classified.[/sub]

In the UK, it's only a city if it has a cathedral.
Not true. You've been QI'd
Only since the 20th century. From 1540 onwards, the association between communities being cities when they had diocesian cathedrals was established by Henry VIII. Since Salisbury's got one of the oldest cathedrals in the country, and Bournemouth and Dorchester just plain aren't cities, I'm going to take it from that. If it's good enough for King "Divorce-behaded-died-divorced-beheaded-survived", it's good enough for me!
