as for misses I can only think of 4 evolution lines that could be included:
the hexagonal thing
the goth ribbon thing
the ice cream cone
the trash bag
apart from that I find the fifth gen to be generally well designed the fifth gen and there have been way worse pokemon designs in the previous gens (jinx) so I don't find the standard to be dropping.
Honestly the thing that makes me the most sad is the copy-paste genies. A lot can be forgiven but with these it is crystal clear that they just did not care.

Also, why the hell is a pure flying type green and purple? It makes no sense.
yea I cannot defend those three, but I think they should reduce the number of legendaries added per gen to 5 maybe 7 this would avoid things like those three but the thing is they never needed to add them into the game so they weren't added because they had to and they didn't have any ideas they were added because someone thought they were a good idea in the same way jinx was added because someone thought it was a good idea.

Those are Kami.

The trio represents a pokemon version of Inari Ōkami, Fūjin, and Raijin respectively. They're 'Copy pasted' in a manner like most of the legendary trios. Honestly it's little different from any of the other trios. I personally like them because they feel more japanese then some of the other designs.

Hell there's no chance of Pokemon dying and I'm glad about this, great time sink.
Now with the 3DS on the go you know Nintendo are going to flob some more out!

Now, the question is;

What do you reckon they'd include in a new pokemon 3DS game?

Personally I don't think they'd add a great deal but I'm sure maybe... something.. will .. . hapnsedffiogn.

I dunno lol

I reckon they're going to get into a pattern of a brand-new game and then a remake of an older release, which they have done for the last few cycles.
As long as they can keep upgrading the game engine in time for the remakes, they could keep going with Pokémon indefinitely.

ONE DAY WE'LL ALL BE OUT THERE CATCHING REAL POKÉMON ON OUR OWN QUEST TO BECOME A MASTER!

Er... Pokemon MMO?

Combat mechanic is being perfected to death, they have a bucket load of lore and content, a levelling system for each pokemon you carry, and even a PvP tournament schedule.

Seriously, just whip up a 3d model set, which they already did on Gamecube, put micro-payments on potions and some items, an account sytem, and bam! Gateway MMO for young kids before they go on to Warcraft.

...

Come to think of it, with the potential for a variety of flying, swimming, digging and teleporting mounts, you'd have one hell of a game there.

Too right. But two questions must be asked.
1. Will you play from trainer or Pokemon perspective? and
2. If Pokemon perspective, how will they stop everyone from just choosing legendaries?

I don't think they'd let it die out. Like some of the other replies have said, they'd probably change format or style (gradually of course) before it even came close to becoming stale.

Heck, Black/White could be considered the first step of this with it's slight adjustments.

I want a Pokémon Yellow remake!

Pokémon White is the first game in the series in a long time that's been really good, they probably already have plans for the next games, the mechanics of Black/White really open up a ton of possibilities.

I think the only thing Pokemon has to worry about is running out of ideas for new Pokemon...

I mean they have a goddamned Ice-Cream pokemon...

Off-Topic: Look around the room you are currently in and pick out specific items, (telephone, pencil, deodorant, etc.)... Now, I can almost guarantee that within the next 5 years, at least half of these items will be turned into Pokemon...

Seriously! I am taking bets here!

I say it would probably be once they had made a thousand Pokemon's that they would consider ending it or at least change it somehow.

So you can say the 5th is the most imaginative so far while others who think it's the worst are just making ridiculous notions?

I find the new Pokemon are the least characteristic out of the lot, and some trying to look serious just look goofy. Then I compare the legendaries, but I can't because the new ones are so lame.

Didn't mind all the previous games until Pearl. I'm not even gonna bother with this gen cause hardly any of the Pokemon appeal to me.
Not most imaginative, no. I'm saying that just because someone might dislike newer Pokemon (or any for that matter) doesn't mean that they are running out of ideas. That is the ridiculous notion. There are a lot of concepts out there.
If anything, they are getting more creative (or perhaps too creative) by introducing more Pokemon based off myths or Japanese culture that us Westerners aren't too keen on. I'm willing to bet that most people don't even know what the hell Castform is based on without looking it up, but I'm sure someone in Japan seen one dangling in front of their neighbors house at some point.
When you put it like that, I do agree. There are many ideas that haven't been done before.

However, I wouldn't say they're getting more creative, they are just reaching into other areas of life. And like I said before, these designs aren't as appealing altogether, not because they're based of some Japanese tradition. From the amount of anime we've all watched, I'm sure we're pretty used to their style and culture. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I think its about time for a major leap forward type revelation with it. Instead of making it backwards compatable with the earlier games, they should make a new generation, with no new pokemon, allowing it to span ALL the continents and revamp their fundamentally flawed system. It is becoming unsustainable in my opinion, but as long as people keep buying it, they'll keep making stupid looking pokemon and repackaging their game.

A few improvements I can think of off the top of my head would be:
1. Do away with HMs taking up a move slot. Like completely. HM slaves are a painful evil
2. Instead of having 100000 moves to choose from but only about 10 good ones, have movesets that upgrade as pokemon level. Every few levels you're allowed to add points into improving a moves power, accuracy or adding an effect. etc
3. Cut the crap with team rocket, galactic, magma, aqua etc. If they're evil, make their actions have some level of peril other than ooh they're mean to pokemon. Blaaah
4. Like I said before, let it span ALL the continents so you can collect ALL the pokemon and beat every regions gym challenge and maybe even a new story for every region.
5. Try try TRY to make pokemon that aren't completely ridiculous.

Just some ideas I've had, but I think they need to innovate along these lines.
Touching on #4 of your list; You could go to the Kanto region after you beat the Jhoto region in the GSC generation. I don't exactly know if you could do the same in HG and SS (having sold my DS after getting bored of it and therefore never played any of the generations after Diamond & Pearl) but since they were supposed to be remakes I'm gonna go with those too.

I do see your point though and yeah it would be cool to be able to go through all of the other regions after you completed the main one. Maybe after Nintendo gets tired of making new versions they could make a game that tied all of the regions togeather in one game and call it something like Pokemon: Grand Adventure or something like that.

Well, I did say in one of my previous posts (that you even quoted) that they're just expanded on what a Pokemon can be, which was pretty much my point.

It will exist for quite a while more. They have said that they want to do somehing new with the formula. Maybe for the 3DS?

Why hasn't there been a full Pokemon RPG on consoles...? Surely that would be the next step... But you know, not for Wii.
