It would be great if it'd go out with a bang, using up all the nightmarish, or just weirdly unexplained things the games left behind to create a great, big childhood-destroying juggernaut.

pokemon

i think you would run out of ideas for pokemon when you make make one after a garbage bag.

but they didn't stop there

they had to give it a evolution.
you know, if they're running out of ideas, then they can pull out a "megaman 6" and have the fans help contribute designss, stats, type etc. (I've been doing it since I was 8)

But yeah, This generation's designs are ugly.

They already had team Galaxy, didn't they?

HAHAHA! You'll never catch them all! MWAHAHAHA!

AKA: People seem to be still buying into it quite a bit. If it was ever on a 360 or PS3 or even a computer, I might even try it.
My sis caught them all last week due to the stock-market like trading you can do online now...

On topic, to me, Pokemon's been dead for a long time.

as for misses I can only think of 4 evolution lines that could be included:
the hexagonal thing
the goth ribbon thing
the ice cream cone
the trash bag
apart from that I find the fifth gen to be generally well designed the fifth gen and there have been way worse pokemon designs in the previous gens (jinx) so I don't find the standard to be dropping.
Honestly the thing that makes me the most sad is the copy-paste genies. A lot can be forgiven but with these it is crystal clear that they just did not care.

Also, why the hell is a pure flying type green and purple? It makes no sense.
My friend informed that those 3 are based on a part of japanese mythology or at least that's what i remember her telling me.

Well, I would've thought that the legendary problem could be solved as having them as raid bosses or something of the like and not having them as available to catch, but I like the idea of having one, as that would appeal to the traditional strategy part of Pokemon in PvP due to having to choose the correct legendary to counter another person's legendary/psuedo-legendary/whatever, and having to utilize your Pokemon types for exploration/quest purposes sounds like a good idea theoretically, but what about the different environments? Should you, say, have a Fire-type with you while exploring underwater for whatever ridiculous reason, would said Pokemon take damage due to the environment or would another debuff of sorts be applied to it as an environmental penalty?

As for developers, I'm not really informed about good MMO devs past the fact that Blizzard did a pretty good job with WoW, but I will agree that Nintendo should hire someone else, because they might not do the best job creating it. Just sayin'.
I'd prefer to be able to capture the legendaries. It's Pokemon... it should be about collecting, not raiding :p

My favourite online game is Guild Wars. Only being allowed one elite skill and tweaking my build to suit environments is second nature to me. For Pokemon, it doesn't even need that much thought... just keep the elemental wheel of power. In underwater areas, you'll mostly encounter water types, so bring your grass types with you. In a forest, bring your fire types, in a desert water types etc.

But then you'll have to balance that with your utility pokemon skills. Grass types can't swim that well, so you bring a water type for transport underwater.

Then, maybe you build your team to support the one legendary pokemon you have. What skills will each pokemon have to compliment the legendary's ability? Is that worth sacrificing the elemental advantage?

This is where you get the older, more mature gamer, and how you keep him or her collecting pokemon for months on end, even with a relatively simple battle mechanic. It's the basis of player created goals, and personal quests. It's where you get the one guy that solely collects flying types, and engineers teams to make it work. It's also where the interesting PvP happens, as people tweak teams to get a tiny edge over others.

But realistically, I think other people would forgo this simple complexity, throw out the old mechanics and put in their own, which are heart breakingly similar to WoW. Not to say there's anything wrong with WoW, but a Pikachu shouldn't be running around trying to find a hat which gives him +2 points to Electricity. That's not the spirit of Pokemon.

Yeah, but they're still ridiculously lazy copy-paste Pokemon, two of which are silly and unintuitive colors for no real reason.

I think they should do a revamp of Pokemon Blue/Red, that would be cool.

But I think it is getting very close to the end, to be honest I am not too fond of some of the pokemon in Black/White...

A Pokémon MMO would be incredible and I definitely would play the crap out of it. Instead of playing as the trainer, you could perhaps start as any 1st evolution Pokémon with obvious restrictions (no legendaries and whatnot, not until later. Or make them NPC/village leaders). Each type of Pokémon starts in a different area and they train until they reach a higher level. Once they are strong enough, they may venture outside their starter area and begin to form teams with other Pokémon. This would encourage people to work together, as Pokémon have obvious weaknesses. Players could form 'teams' (guilds) and support each other in the game.

PvP would be intense, as you would have to have a well rounded team to cover each other's weaknesses. A team of all Pikachus wouldn't fair well in PvP. I don't think there would be gear, because as you said, that's not in the spirit of Pokémon. Plus, it would help keep the game simple. Items like berries and potions would be fine though, as they already have a place in the Pokémon world. Leveling up would bring better stats and the ability to unlock better attacks. TMs would still exist (you'd buy them much like you do skills in Guild Wars, but you could re-use them). And, like Guild Wars, there would be elite skills/moves, but you could only equip one.

I'm not sure what you would be battling, as pretty much any Pokémon would be available to play as... Perhaps Team Rocket/Plasma/Magma/Aqua etc would be a good start and maybe their Pokémon could be the enemy, meaning that any Pokémon could be your enemy.

As much as I would love to have them do this, I sort of doubt they would. I'm sure there is interest amongst the community, but would Nintendo/Game Freak actually do it? MMOs are somewhat of a risk, as everyone that has challenged WoW hasn't done well. Of course, it's hard to do 'well' when you compare yourself against WoW. Ah well, it's still fun to think about. Maybe someday my dream will be a reality.

Mario's games also evolved (no pun intended, I swear) into various genres. Hell, they turned a platformer into an RPG with paper mario. You have the odd different game, but the core of things is the same with pokemon... It's an RPG, so I think it won't live THAT long.

maybe mname the games after planets? Mercury and venus. Mars and Pluto (Fuck you it counts!). Jupiter and Saturn? Play from team rocket's perspective?

Yes but those remain very much spin-offs and not the main focus on the franchise. The mario karts, mario RPGs and sigh...... those party ones are quite often good games with a lot of work put into them. But they are just to supplement the mario universe (read: make ninty more cash) and don't replace the main game lines.
