Kate rolled her head, cracking the joints in her neck. She blinked hard and yawned, fishing a portable mirror out of her pocket. She flipped it open and held it up in front of her face.
"...God FUCKING dammit."
Snapping the small compact closed, she turned and walked out the door she had, presumably, come in by, almost slipping on the puddle of blood where her head had been.
Kate glanced down at her wrist as she ambled down corridors. The Device was still recharging. Her last Jump, the one that bought her here, had been particularly strenuous. She had no idea why, Kate didn't even know how to work the damn thing. It was almost always a case of 'Press the button and hope you don't land inside a star or something." She knew she should probably get rid of the damn thing; it was more trouble than it was worth, and besides, accidentally throwing herself into the multiverse when she rolled over in her sleep was becoming someth...

[i/]Kate stopped and stared at the wall, unblinking. Something flickered in the corner of her eye, and she turned. Was it just her imagination, or was the corridor darker than it was when she opened that door?
She tilted her head, eyes fixed at the wall at the far end. For a moment she could have sworn it had shifted...[/i]
Then it passed, and she let loose a breath she hadn't even realized she had been holding. She turned and continued down the corridor, idly tossing a ball of flame from hand to hand was she walked.
