That's two threads I've gone into today and twice I've seen my old group mentioned.
This worries me.

2011: The Year of the Great Pony Invasion. I would definitely count that as a significant event.
I thought that happened in 2010?
Or at least the tail end of 2010.
Aww, don't worry, we still love you.

Have two dates for ponies: The beginning of the show, and then the invasion that came afterwards in 2011. A lot of people have mentioned it so it must have been pretty important

Everything important about the Escapist's history in summary:

Up to 30th March 2010 - nothing much happened, just some boring shit

31st March 2010:

Okay, but seriously, we could consider adding some very well known users (for good or ill) in but we have to be careful, since it's pretty subjective where you draw the line and we don't want the list swamped by user shout-outs. A few suggestions of some of the stand-out users for each year:

2010: Aylaine, Jack and Calumon

2011: Caramel Frappe

2012: Daystar Clarion, Fappy, Danyal

Redlin5, lacktheknack and Vault101 all also strike me as some of the best known forum users, though I wouldn't be sure which year if any they'd fit in best. Perhaps it might be better to keep this to events but hey, it's up to you bluepilot >.>
True, these are important people, Maybe they deserve too have the Era named after them, but I do not want to use their actual user names because that would not be polite.

2010: The Era of Digimon
2011: The Era of Hot Foamy Beverages
2012: The Era of The Calligraphy Brush

Or something like that

I am open to any proposals
I can get behind users being honoured to an extent but I think it would be better to name eras after the general theme of that year rather than a specific user. Here's what I would imagine (at-least from my perspective):

2010: Era of the Collapsing Order - I wasn't around much in 2010 so take this with a grain of salt but it seemed to feature the break-up of the old order of forum celebrities such as Furbert for example, many of which were either banned or left the site

2011: Era of Conflict - I remember there were quite a few warring arguments around this year, I myself was involved in a month-long conflict between the staff and a number of users over the new rules and the health-bar system, eventually a number of bans and site leaving followed (sound familiar?) Misanthropy almost reached a peak this year.

2012: Era of the New Order - this year seems to have been defined by the rise of a new group of well-known forum members, with a good deal of injokes between them and joviality that seems to have infected much of the rest of the forum's userbase too.

Yay, early member. Good name for 2008? Were there any particular events or members who could be said to have defined that year?

We did already have that "name as many escapist users as you can" thread. We could whip out statistics and choose the top ten or something XD

Those are pretty good summaries for each year, I am adding them

2010 was the year that I started <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/2-50-Reviews>my review series. Going daily now since then, so that's kind of important, isn't it? Really hit its stride in 2011, though.

2012 was the year that The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption happened. If nothing else, that's become an on-site meme more than the "Drowning" threads, isn't it?

And it's just so awesome that it deserves to be mentioned.

If we did that it would probably be best to repeat the thread again as that one was from August and that's years in forum time... plus it was right at the latter half of my three month hiatus whilst I was travelling and so I was positioned perfectly to get minimal mentions :-(

Thanks, what would you like to call you review series for the timeline? Right now I am (trying) to maintain a policy of not mentioning specific names of users but a nickname is good if you want to include yourself in the description

I don't have a clue and I doubt that anyone is going to. You could probably sift through the March Madness 2010 threads to pinpoint it but I'm a fairly lazy person...

The series is called "$2.50 Reviews," so that'd work, I guess.

I think the 27th January 2012 deserves it's own special place in The Escapist forum history for this absolute gem of a thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.340123-Poll-Sonic-the-Hedgehogs-friends-or-the-humans-from-the-Transformers-films-Whos-worse]

Ah, you are the user behind those ones, they are pretty good and frequently updated. Added under 2011, Rise of the $2.50 reviews

Wait a sec Danyal got banned again? Worst day on the forum ever. Now who will post controversial topics in R&P to keep things interesting? Without him they might as well delete that part of the forum.

That aside I think the Zynga issue from years ago gave me PTSD, that was just soooooooooooooooooooooooooo awful and I'm thankful the following year the problem was resolved.

I feel like such a bad Forum Member.....as I was reading through all of these "events" I was like "wha....which is that?....who's he?..."

I mean I remember the Zynga thing, but didn't know it was "an incident", and I never knew that The Escapist crashing for a day was a huge deal either.

And are we really including forum members as significant people on this timeline? I mean I know Danyal posted a lot of weird topics, but I wouldn't call his banning "significant"
