I feel like such a bad Forum Member.....as I was reading through all of these "events" I was like "wha....which is that?....who's he?..."

I mean I remember the Zynga thing, but didn't know it was "an incident", and I never knew that The Escapist crashing for a day was a huge deal either.

And are we really including forum members as significant people on this timeline? I mean I know Danyal posted a lot of weird topics, but I wouldn't call his banning "significant"

I don't really remember it.
I've been on the Escapist for a fair while, but I don't always visit it frequently, so it's interesting learning about some of these significant things that perhaps passed me by.
I definitely remember the "Pony invasion" though- I recall avoiding the Escapist for at least a month while that was going on, because I just didn't (and still don't) understand the appeal. I still have no idea whether people legitimately like the show, or whether they enjoy it with a strong dose of irony.

YES

I need to feel validated dammit!
That is okay, most people do not remember things that happened. This timeline is a group effort of a collective mind, a bit like the Borg.

Also, I have not quite decided what to do about notable members. I am against using the user names because I do not want people to feel left out. I would rather use nicknames. I am going to see how many names come up, and have a think about it.

This is a great idea. The only thing that I can think of that's missing is the Red Button.

But I'm not sure when that first started. I did a forum search and the oldest thread I could find about it was June 2011.
Great Idea, in it goes
I'm also going to add Bubble Breaker [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.297629-HEY-Who-wants-to-play-bubble-breaker#11789759] to this.
Yikes, that was fun. Added to red button as a subheading: The red Button spawns or something like that. Agggh, it needs a better name though. The honeytrap? Maybe or the Candytrap? Can you think of a fun name for this?

First thing that pops into my mind is "The Irresistible Plague"

That works, because the button spreads too, like a form of herpes. Added.

You could also use "The Red Plague" or "Bieber Fever", sorry I just now thought of those.

When someone really loves Justin Bieber, they're said to have "Bieber Fever", of course we'd mean it not as a good thing, but a horrible disease brought on by the red button.

Like I remember most of this stuff, it's just all kind of blended together. To me, the biggest Escapist timelines was site redesigns and when Extra Credits left. I mean if people thought ME3 was bad, they must not have been around for the Extra Credits fiasco. I remember little stuff like MovieBob's first Expendables review, and that shit-storm.

Maybe add July 2010, The Scary Thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.211546-The-scary-thread]

Well you're one of the recognizable posters on the site, so there's that

that they raised WELL over the amount for Alisons surgery....as for the surplus they wanted to pocket it themselfs, did they actually have a right to it? OR when you think about it the site was the platform that enabled them to get the money, escapist wasnt trying to steal some poor ladys surgery money

if I'm wrong though somone correct me

I am rather confused as to a lot of this stuff, but it seems pretty traumatic.I'm particularly curious as to the event known as the Irish invasion.

I'd say a combination of jovial attitude, derailing for laughs and one of the highest posting rates on the forums. Founding the Brovengers probably helped too.

There seems to be two tactics for getting well known on this site, some people brute force it by sheer number of posts, others get known for less posts but a particular quirk or posting habit. Both Max and Daystar seem to fit both categories, so perhaps that is why them in particular have attained such a following at some point.

All you young Wipper Snappers don't remember the first Escapist celebrity (ok, i hear that there were more even before him, but still...) MaxTheReaper.

God, he was a 15 yr. old (as of 2009) who had an AMAZING writing skill, and if he EVER quoted you, you had better be prepared to be chewed up and obliterated on the forums in a way not even Yahtzee could match... and yet, it was charming and funny. But God bless your soul if you tried to reply. Usually his second response was even more memorable and harsh.

Whenever he responded to anything I said, I just responded by laughing and basically saying, "Oh you!"

Max didn't care either way for hte fame, but he understood my reply and it was just... an honor. One of my best memories from the escapist is max.

And then in late 2009, for whatever reason, he decided he was "sick of the escapist". He didn't give an explicit reason. Rumors suggest he was banned for one reason or another, but other rumors suggest that even if he WAS banned, he did it purposefully to get his account deleted. As far as I know, no one truly knows what happened to him, but it was a sad day in my escapist life when we lost MaxTheReaper. :(

Daystar, in comparison, is only so prolific because he's EVERYWHERE in the forums, and they did that whole thing at the escapist expo... and I think he's part of the injustice league or something... but there's nothing peculiar about him in particular. He was no Max. No one could match Max. :(
He was banned.

He was also a total douchebag with an enormous ego, I don't really understand how anyone found that charming. The only thing about him that I disliked more than his personality were his imitators; at least him by himself was one, easily identifiable, ball of annoying pretentiousness.

Wheres the stuff about Daystar? How can you have a history of the Escapists without mentioning the De-rail King.
Desert Bussing? Maybe.

*And a thousand Escapisties screamed in horror throughout the Warp*.
...... ZZZZZEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. I think his name was Zeel. (Yup it was Zeel).
It must be mentioned of Zeel's Dark Crusade during the ME3 catastrophe.

Captcha: Dark Horse

And the Dark Horse he rode on.

There was also the fact that The Escapist was going through some money issues at the time, and hadn't paid EC in a while (but EC was ok with it), so that didn't help the perception that The Escapist was stealing EC's money....

It was very confusing, and neither side was really "right"

And I know you didn't respond to me about this:

Because it's Daystar.

But seriously, there is no reason why, it's just how this forum works. Look at what happened with Furburt and Hubilub in 2010/2011, both became famous for no apparent reason apart from being the first to post on threads and have back and forths in various threads, just like Daystar and Fappy do now. Just because he's seen around a lot, I'm guessing. :p

I'd just chalk it up to Daystar being a stallion in the sack. It's the only thing I miss from the "good ol' days" :(
