So a couple of people here have brought me up as significant user on here. It's not the first time I've seen this, so I think I ought to set the record straight.

I'm not.

Sure, I did something different and eye catching back in 2010. I had a 'buddy' with me who often held stark contrasting opinions, manners and behaviour to everyone on here. After all, Calumon was something that still had a child-like state of wonderment. You know what I mean; when kids see the world it's as if they're looking at it with completely different eyes to anyone else and their outlooks can be so fascinating since they usually have such a one track mind. They're interested in what's fun, and that's what Calumon was. Contrasting the general pessimism and cynical ways of the Escapist and hopefully making it more cheerful.

But it all it really was was eye-catching really. Calumon's presence on here has made no change, no sway and no great difference on the site one bit. People here are more cynical, pessimistic and depressing than when I started. I made no difference on the community. Heck, I guess the most that came out of it was the hate messages at the start, me snapping and telling the Escapist to choose whether Calumon stayed or not (That thread was a mess, I was damn stupid to even consider making that, especially how I acted in it) and people recognising me on the Escapist. Of course, they were recognising Calumon rather, not me, naturally. I'm the boring human who gets up every morning and goes to bed when he can't take any more of a day, while Calumon was the fun, 'play-all-day' Digimon who hung around with me and hated British tea because it's "yucky" compared to how it was in Japan. Calumon wasn't for everyone, sure, but then again, The Escapist had the ignore button for a reason, and I'd wager I'm the most ignored user outside the R&P board by a fair while. Hey, I don't blame them too much.

I suppose what really cements me as a background character is that I'm barely here. Look at my posting history and you'll see it's my first time posting this month (Yet I still wear my 'Landmark' badge with pride. It's no Neo, but 3 pints on a profile is better than none.) and my posting has been sketchy since then. I just don't post nearly as much anymore, I suppose. I was never a super fast poster like Daystar or even Furburt (Hey, remember that fella? Wonder how he's doing...) and I was never prolific for my opinions like Demented Teddy and MaxtheReaper (RIP you wonderful, wonderful users). I made nothing of value to this site. Others here do more than I ever did like TimeLord and Sky14kemea. They're active, they're loved, and they certainly didn't screw up the amount I did on this site (I wonder if Susan still dislikes Calumon? Hearing that was quite a shock if I remember right). No, these people are the welcomed regulars and they should be.

Then I hear some people bring me up. A significant user, famous I've heard tossed around once or twice. I'm not. People know the concept of what I did, some actually knowing me. I'm a name, a name that couldn't even push a stamp let alone influence the pillars of this online community.

I was always just that guy with the quirk that was more popular than he was.

Not that I'd ever get rid of him though.

Calumon: ...*hugs*
There goes the 'seriousness' of my post, right Susan?

I think RP needs its own sub category. Any idea when this forum started?
I have heard that it started in 2006 but not sure.

Hey, I'm the one who originally brought up your name on this thread, so if you don't mind I'll make a short reply. I think you're being a bit hard on yourself, while it's absolutely true that very little which happens in an Internet forum is significant, it's undeniable that you were and still are a popular member, heck you won a community award at the beginning of this year. The fact you have a relatively low posting rate only increases the kudos in my opinion since it shows how memorable your posts have been. I've always enjoyed the whole Calumon skit personally.

That said, I apologise if I caused any offence by posting your name and I'll refrain from doing so in future if you wish :)

Honestly, people! How could you remember the Whirlpools without the Bacon?!?

And then there was the creation of Escapist City and its first census in the fall of 2012. October, wasn't it?

OMG!!!!

How could we forget the impending bacon shortage?!

This needs a spot, so we all know the day when the end of the world was prophesied. December 21? Don't know what you're talking about.

No, the end of the world will come about when the bacon runs out.

The original cry of terror occurred on this thread. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.389272-Unavoidable-Global-Bacon-Shortage-Expected-Next-Year#15604916]

The number of suicide victims was terrible. It was only the news of our salvation [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.389432-Aporkalypse-Not-Now-Bacon-Shortage-Exaggerated-Experts-Say#15616173] that stemmed off total catastrophe.

This is just a guess, but did the Religion and Politics forums explode constantly for about a month after Osama bin Laden's death in 2011? I've been on the escapist for a few years, but it wasn't until recently (compared to y'all) that I joined the forums. Should the rise and fall of certain shows be counted in this history of the Escapist or do you/y'all really want to narrow it down to purely forum history? I'd love to talk about a few realms that that are...unforgotten to this very day.

Also, is the bolded section supposed to include the rants about the Tropes vs Women kickstarter whoop-whoop-shabang-wild&angry-arguments that were "off the hizzay", as the kids say?

I feel like such a bad Forum Member.....as I was reading through all of these "events" I was like "wha....which is that?....who's he?..."

I mean I remember the Zynga thing, but didn't know it was "an incident", and I never knew that The Escapist crashing for a day was a huge deal either.

And are we really including forum members as significant people on this timeline? I mean I know Danyal posted a lot of weird topics, but I wouldn't call his banning "significant"
As a member of R&P, I would say it was among the most important things to happen there this year, with Katatori leaving being the other important thing. Not much happens there really. Just users dying.

As for a nickname for Danyal, you could always call him goat fucker, though something something related to objectivism like Galt would be less insulting I suppose.
Xan Krieger said:
Wait a sec Danyal got banned again? Worst day on the forum ever. Now who will post controversial topics in R&P to keep things interesting? Without him they might as well delete that part of the forum.

That aside I think the Zynga issue from years ago gave me PTSD, that was just soooooooooooooooooooooooooo awful and I'm thankful the following year the problem was resolved.
He made threads about beastiality and how terrible Muslims are. I do not think that such kinds of "controversy" are honestly worth it.

This is a great idea. The only thing that I can think of that's missing is the Red Button.

But I'm not sure when that first started. I did a forum search and the oldest thread I could find about it was June 2011.

Wow. I didn't frequent the forums until about August of this year so I barely know any of this shit. I feel like an outsider. Have there been that many large events? What are you cataloguing, times when a certain topic came up often, or when threads reached a certain size? Also, who was Danyal and how did he die?

I think the 27th January 2012 deserves it's own special place in The Escapist forum history for this absolute gem of a thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.340123-Poll-Sonic-the-Hedgehogs-friends-or-the-humans-from-the-Transformers-films-Whos-worse]
That was weird to read through. That's the funny thing about threads and discussions on the internet: Nobody gets cut off and the topic never changes. When I start talking about Batman with my friends, we'll end up at WWII after like 5 minutes. I don't know how. One time we had another friend stay out of the discussion and plot the segues. It was mind-boggling. A scatter-plot to say the least.

Yay, early member. Good name for 2008? Were there any particular events or members who could be said to have defined that year?
Unfortunately at that time I was not an active member saving the Earth from a Sontaran invasion. So my knowledge of back then is limited.

Your posts definitely used to brighten up threads though.

OP: The time when the Pub Club started, I remember there being quite a few arguments over that. Sorry if it's already there and I just skimmed over it.
Extra Credits leaving was a pretty big one too.
If we're going into creating the sub forums, I remember when people were upset because OT was flooded with relationship advice threads so they had to create the Advice forum, largely due to the complaining and petitioning of one man.

Although, maybe I should stop judging the importance of events based on how many users were angry about it.

I definitely think the Zynga incident is my favourite on the list. That was so much fun!

And then there was tacos

Serious business now, but I'm glad the Brovenger/Injustice League conflict got mentioned. It's a fun time for all! :D

Was "The Great Banning" an actual thing?
I don't really remember it.
I've been on the Escapist for a fair while, but I don't always visit it frequently, so it's interesting learning about some of these significant things that perhaps passed me by.
I definitely remember the "Pony invasion" though- I recall avoiding the Escapist for at least a month while that was going on, because I just didn't (and still don't) understand the appeal. I still have no idea whether people legitimately like the show, or whether they enjoy it with a strong dose of irony.

Any significant event is good, users, events forum wars, threads, I am trying to create as much detail as possible. So, if there is anything you think noteworthy, please let me know. I will need a date for unforgotten realms though, then it gets added. I am not sure about the Obama Bin Laden thing, because that is more of a world ripple than a contained forum one (though I did break this rule by including the start of My Little Pony in the Timeline)
