This could be simultaneously one of the best and worst ideas I've ever had.

http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

HOW THIS WILL WORK:

Basically, I'm going to host a game of Civilization V, which anyone in this thread may join in. On every turn, votes will be taken on current moves, highest voted move is used. I'm the swing vote. After moving, I post screenies of any moves that occur afterwards, as well as text describing relevant opponent moves.

If at any time you wish to interact with another civilization or a city-state, or see a chunk of the other players' territory/army/etc, or view the tech tree, or ANY not-automatic game function, just ask.

This game may take anywhere from a couple hours to a couple months, depending on how awesome you guys are, so check back often! After each session (each should last a couple hours or so), I'll give a rough estimate as to when the next one will be.

Edit: Due to low interest (;_;) the game is simply continuous.

If you can't read the text in a photo, then zoom in by holding your cursor over the text, pressing "Ctrl" on your keyboard, and rolling your mouse wheel up. Roll down to zoom out to the correct screen size. All the screenshots are taken at 1920x1200, so the text is definitely readable if you zoom in.

Well, enough of that, we'll play it mostly by ear. Let's get this going!

http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

First leader/civilization to get three votes is the winner and will be used!

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

First map type to get three votes will be selected.

http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

First world size to get three votes will be used. Note that a larger map means more opponents!

http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

Difficulty works by giving you/your opponents benefits/deficiencies such as extra/less health or happiness in your cities, with Prince being neutral (I think), as well as increasing opponent/barbarian aggression as you get harder. Note that there is a difficulty level eight ("Deity"), but let's not take that. I want to last more than an hour. As usual, first three votes get it.

http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

We are NOT taking "Marathon". That's approximately six times longer than a normal game. First three votes to not be "Marathon" choose game length.

All right, so here my craziest idea yet. Let's see if The Escapist is united enough to win!

Catherine. All the way. Let's get a lot of horses and iron and conquer the world early.

Small Pangaea, Warlord difficulty.

Standard pace.

Leader:

Large continent map (he was 12 storeys high; he can handle it).
And King. Because he'll eat the king of Britain or something.

Hiawatha. That "Forests as roads" thing is insanely useful for cultural/economic growth, which results in great science, which can result in being a full 4 or 5 techs ahead in late game.

Small Continents, Warlord, Standard pace. Also, if I may make a suggestion on "Advanced Setup," check "Disable Start Bias" and "New Random Seed."

There will be. You'll find it. Besides, even if there is none, you'll only be on Warlord difficulty if you go by my plan. ^^

Anyways, that's TWO for Warlord Difficulty and Small Map. Any other takers or suggestions?

Fine. Warlord difficulty, small Pangea map. Hiawatha because that could be funny too.

Small map, Warlord locked.

Pangaea has two votes, as does Hiawatha and Standard.

I may just take those if no one else wants to help set up.

Well, here goes then.

Iroquois on Warlord difficulty, on a small pangaea with a normal clock.

One warrior, one settler. Both can move only one space before ending their turn.

Wat do?

Settlers need to settle, preferibly near at least one square of water and one plains square. Have the warriors move with the settlers until the city is built.

Which direction? Northeast or East will both put me beside water.

That's a half-decent spot, for all it's on the coast. However, I'd move the settlers in 2 spots along the river and then settle, get yourself out of range of naval bombardment. Garrison the warriors in the city once it's settled. Start production on a Scout and research....Pottery, I think.

EDIT: Whoops, didn't read the screenshot carefully enough. My points still stand, however, you don't want your capital near open ocean where it's easily bombarded by even early naval units. I'd go two or three steps inland, see if you can find a lake or river to settle by. If you can't, the ocean is alright, but you'll need a strong Navy.

I concur with the previous poster. Then again, I'm just in this for the lulz so... explore the map with the settlers until you find one of the other factions and plop your city right next to one of theirs. [/bad ideas]

Edit: I meant the first post after the initial game map post.

One vote find plains, one vote settle two squares upriver.

One vote pottery.

Any more? I'm moving in a few minutes.

Overruled, due to being against game rules (can't settle in enemy territory) and generally being an absolutely dismal idea (see: proximity misery).

Aaaaand cutoff, I'm moving now. Let's explore East a bit until A. we find a river, or B. three turns pass.

Well, looky what we have here!

http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

Onondaga! Founded in 3880 on a hill by a river near the coastline by some deer. It's just within range of one enemy ship, but nothing this city can't handle - it can fight back, if memory serves me.

Troops: Garrisoned.

What to research?

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/1081/civilizationvdx11201107e.jpg

What to train/build?

FINAL EDIT: I know we're playing on a low difficulty, so finding all the bonuses on the map probably doesn't count for shit. But then again, since my opinion clearly doesn't count for shit to anyone who's ever actually played this game more than me, OP probably included, why do you need me to do anything if all I'm ever going to do is make bad decisions like my name was

Wheatley?

No no no, garrison the warrior. Warriors suck at any kind of long-range scouting, they simply aren't fast enough. Maybe have 'em do one patrol just outside your cultural borders to clear some fog, but don't set 'em to explore. Build a scout, research Pottery. Pottery leads to Sailing, and getting Sailing early is immensely useful, especially since you're extremely near the coast. Your next city should probably be a coastal city, possibly just the other side of that river's delta...but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.
