EDIT: Since I'm clearly outclassed by the entire damn Internet, I'm not even going to bother with this. I'll let the actual experts do their job and stop dragging everyone else down, because I'm a useless piece of shit who couldn't play Civ for my life.
That was a bit... overreactive. He just said that sending the warrior as a scout isn't a good idea. I sometimes do it, but it can cause problems later. Doesn't mean it wasn't a usable suggestion.

Anyways, two for pottery, one for scout. Any others?

All right, researching pottery and building a scout. Pottery will take nine turns, the scout will take five.

Yes, a scout! Where should we send it?

Send the scout east. East has usually ended well hasn't it? Perhaps we'll find something interesting in the rest of the hidden world.

Your post was 10110, binary for 22. SEND HIM 22 EAST. Or just.. a bit east, whatever.

Send him north, or northwest, or west. You won't be able to build bridges over the river until you get engineering (it's engineering, right?). Of course, that would only impede troop movement. Trade routes between the cities are a non-issue.

But still, I think it would be safer to search north or west first, so troop movement over the river won't be annoying. You never know when you might need to desperately move troops across the river. That extra turn used could turn out badly?[small]or maybe not?[/small]

Unless forests across a river still count for trade routes under The Great Warpath bonus, in which case my point is null.
[sup][sup]GO NORTHWEST!!![/sup][/sup]

EDIT: Oh yeah, build a monument. ^^

Two say east, one says northwest.

Due to the fact that we're on an easy difficulty, I think it's safe to risk sending the scout East at first. The river isn't a large obstacle.

Scouts are being sent East - Hey!

http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

Awesome! We now have access to our first city-state! Should we talk to them? What should our approach be?

http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

Also, what should be made now?

Definitely friend Genoa as soon as possible. That extra food/growth will come in handy, as well as their incense.

Edit: Doublepost for monument.

Monument, definitely. But then, I'm pushing towards a cultural or scientific victory.

Also, definitely peace with Genoa. I never attack city-states (Unless I'm playing as the Mongols) unless it gives me some serious benefits (like an extremely well-placed city or lots of influence with another city-state I want to ally with).

All right, Genoa, let's play a love game.

Yikes! I can't afford any of that! Maybe later...

Anyways, the scouts patrol East some more, until three turns later...

Genoa's twin sister city, Geneva! Same approach?

Also, pottery has been discovered.

Great, now we can build granaries, and have unlocked more techs!

What do?

I say Animal Husbandry, all the way. No particular reason, but still?

EDIT: Oh. I thought of a reason. It would lead to trapping, right? Which is what you need to utilize those deer? Yes? Maybe it's not a powerful enough reason?

EDIT2: I wouldn't worry about Geneva too much, unless we're going for early cultural advantage. I think we'll do fine without Geneva for now.

Husbandry will lead to trapping, which leads to deer use, yes.

Three way tie, people. Should we do husbandry, archery, or mining? Next post decides.

Double vote by one person! SHAME, SIR! SHAME! :p

If no one votes otherwise in the next half hour, then husbandry it shall be.

Husbandry it is!

Two turns later -

http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

BARBARIANS! Should our scouts set up a defensive stance, or flee?

Also,

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/4711/civilizationvdx11201107.jpg

What should we build next?

Get the scouts up on the hill there and fortify.

Build a granary? I guess?
