I can't believe nobody has brought out the list yet: here it is in all its glory:
YOU ARE
-Male
-Age 15-25
-Straight
-Grew up somewhere in the middle class playing tons of video games
-Above-average intelligence but an underachiever
-Racist to some degree
-Non-Religious
Post this absolutely anywhere on the internet (well, on general nerd sites anyway; specialty sites aimed at a different crowd tend to have a different set of defining characteristics), and you'll get a huge number of people going "huh, that really does describe me. Heck, the only thing on the list that categorically doesn't apply to me is the non-religious part. The "racist to some degree" one wouldn't either, but the wording is so broad that I don't think there's a person on the planet who can completely truthfully say that it doesn't apply to them.
As for some more Escapist-specific traits:
We have a lot of industry cheer leaders who rush to defend any attack on their rights as consumers, as long as the company making said attack isn't either EA or Activision,
As a corollary to that, we have a lot of people who immediately attack EA and Activision any time they're mentioned, whether it's justified in that specific instance or not (Face it, guys, Origin is no more evil than Steam, and for that matter, a big part of the reason it exists is because of Valve's insistence on getting a cut of any DLC profits on any game sold in their store; EA understandably didn't want to deal with that, since they could just as easily sell the DLC through the individual games and cut out the middle man)
As a second corollary, Valve can do no wrong, even when they're blatantly doing something evil.
A lot of "games as art" snobs who are apparently incapable of appreciating the fact that games have value as games, and don't really need to be considered "art" to be a valid hobby
people with a huge persecution complex (any time games get mentioned in the mainstream press, as opposed to the gaming press, gamers everywhere start to whine about the "inevitable" attacks on the medium that, oddly enough, almost always fail to materialize; apparently a lot of gamers never got the memo that it's not 1994 anymore. Especially confusing since so many of them weren't even born at the time. This one is more of a general gamer thing, though.)
Bronies, Bronies everywhere (Again, the same could be said of the internet at large, but we have a higher than usual concentration for a non-pony focused site)
People who attack Fox News at every possible opportunity (I hate Newscorp as much as the next guy, but the percentage of stories that show up on Fox News, especially on the website, that are completely skewed and off base is quite a bit lower than the 100% gamers seem to think it is.)
I could keep listing stuff all day; as much as I love certain elements of this community, other elements really get on my nerves at times. Not that everything I listed on here was something that annoys me -- for example, I'm a Brony myself -- but there are a lot of things in this community that don't really mesh well with me. That could honestly be said of any forum, though; this is the one I call home, and while I may not always be proud of it, I always wind up coming back.
