The Conduit.

Imagine this: I am a Wii gamer, who had never played a proper FPS. Then, The Conduit is announced. A game that defines itself through graphics unseen on the Wii, and basically offers Wii owners the thing they're missing out on. So I buy it, curious to see just how much graphical improvement they could squeeze out of the Wii's hardware.

And it's the blandest game I've ever played. Everything is brown and grey, the level design is incredibly boring, and the gameplay consists almost entirely of "Move from A to B, shooting everything you meet".

I usually know whether I like or hate a game based on the first time the protagonist speaks. So, X-Blades was dead to me after the first cutscene. "I am like seriously the greatest treasure hunter there is, okay you guys? For reals. I am totally not kidding." Ick.

Of course, I've been wrong about that before. I hated Altair very quickly, but I wound up liking Assassin's Creed. But it's still usually a very good indicator as to how much thought a dev team has actually put into their game and as to whether or not I'll be able to suspend my disbelief.

Amen. Same problem as X-Blades. "I am like totally a serious General!" YOU'RE FIFTEEN!

I think the fastest ever was Farcry where I was using cheats 5 minutes into the game just to try and enjoy it.

The LOTR conquest demo. I played it for about 1 minute before I realized how shocking the game was.

Halo 3. I played for about 15 minutes before I realized the game was crap.

This is for a game you actually bought/rented/played, not one you saw the ads for and dismissed. What was the fastest you realized the game was bad or not worth your time? What game was it and why did it fail your expectations? Try to be specific as to what didn't work.

Mine was 5 minutes with Jade Cocoon 2. It had none of the deep story elements of the first game, and it was chock full of cliches.

Your turn.
Lost Oddysey, because it was turn based bollocks and I thought it wouldn't be like that, and it made me stop playing it.

Need for Speed Shift.

I played the demo. Didn't like it, tried it again a few days later. The handling was just as horribly oversensitive as I had remembered. A damn shame.

Actually I've never bought a game I didn't love or at least like an awful lot. I think it's just because I never buy into the hype and read reviews before I buy games. That being said, some of the games I like have been panned, but when I bought them, it was because they held specific appeal for me, Hawx being the prime example. Preorders I do as well, most recently Dragon Age, but that was simply due to Bioware's amazing track record. A gamble? Perhaps, but it was a fairly safe bet that I'd love the game (which of course I did).

LittleBigPlanet. Took me two levels to realise this cutesy crap made me want to burn puppies. Gears of War took me a level and a half to make me realise that I could've gotten the same effect by turning on a B-Grade sci-fi action movie and hiding behind my lounge.

Sonic Unleashed.

Two minutes into my first "Werehog" level, I simply quit. I drove all the way back to GameStop and returned it in exchange for Mass Effect.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. Jesus Christ on a Unicycle, that was crap.

I still have it though. Somewhere.

It is hiding for it's LIFE!

Hmm...well, the first screen of Out of This World gave me nightmares, does that count?

If not, then that title probably goes to Do You Like Horny Bunnies? 2. Took me fifteen minutes to totally lose interest.

Beijing 2008. They advertised that it was a revamped track & field game...which was a complete lie and I traded that in for ODST of all things.

Conduit is a close second, also traded in towards ODST.
And how does ODST compare to the other Halo games btw?

The other horrible game I remember hating within 5-7 minutes was "Die Hard" for Nintendo. What was really sad is that I was stuck with it. It is welcome to shake hands with the E.T. game.
Compared to the other Halos. Better campaign. Better atmosphere. Better ai. Firefight is fun to play. The characters are better...mostly. But that doesn't excuse it from being a sin against gamers everywhere.

The single player portion IS better than Halo 3 in most ways and the multiplayer is well...the same. I mean, I wasn't expecting them to top what they already did. I also didn't buy the DLC for it and I get for freeeeeeeeeeee. I do not miss the Conduit at all.

Warrior Within.

One of the few times I've literally felt insulted by a game.
You should play the demo for Wanted:Weapon of Fate. It starts out with the protagonist breaking the 4th wall to call you a loser for playing it. At the end of the demo the protagonist says, "I'm not a loser like you. I make my own destiny. I'm a weapon of Fate." If you can't figure out the problem with that line, then you probably wrote it.

The most popular game I hated was the Resident Evil 1 remake. The camera was so bad I couldn't tell where I was aiming my gun or that a zombie was standing 2 feet away from me, there was a limited number of saves, the characters controlled horribly, there was a %50 chance of losing the game right of the bat. That game did not age well.

But you missed the entire point! The handling is a bit messed up, but you are supposed to adjust it to your every desire! It was kind of like half a simulator and half an arcade racer. In the options menu for your car there are countless aspects of your can that can be tweaked, from steering sensitivity to the power of your front or rear brakes.
