I always give a game plenty of time, when I can...

Probably the fastest was ~20 minutes of ECW Hardcore Revolution...

How about the longest it took you to find out you hated a game? ;P

For me? I'd say Metal Saga. If you haven't heard of it, it was a PS2 RPG that billed itself as a post-apoclyptic JRPG... WITH TANKS! Unfortunately, it sucked. I kept telling myself, "THIS GAME HAS TANKS IN AN RPG. Surely it will stop being bad at some point." It didn't, but I pressed on, gritting my teeth and emulating Yahtzee's complaint style as I went along. Finally, 17 hours in, I couldn't take any more and tossed it aside. It still sits on my shelf, taunting me... "I'm a nonlinear RPG with tank combat. How can I possibly be bad? PLAY ME." NEVER AGAIN.

Alternately, I've also had a love-hate relationship with World of Warcraft... I'd love it for months, then hate it.

OT: Someone else mentioned FFXII, and that reminded me of the twenty-odd minutes it took me to cast it aside. The fail battle system was fail.

20 minutes (each, in several different sessions).

Deus Ex.

I love cyberpunk, I like shooters, and I enjoy adventure games. For some reason I just did not like this game. I picked it up in 2008 due to all the hype and praise it received but this game just did not stand the test of time. Deus Ex might have been wonderful in its day, but a meager 8 years after release it shows its age. Don't get me wrong, I didn't sit down for a 20 minute session just once and never revisit it again. I have tried several times to get into this game but for some reason I am unable to enjoy interacting with it.

Magna Carta for the ps2.Around 2 hours in.

The battle was slow, and the VA sounded like they were either bored, or were actually zombies forced to do voice acting for brains.

Assassins Creed, I just was not feeling it. It screams "Quantum Leap" to me.
The first 5 minutes of Assassin's Creed is crap but the rest of the game is good.
Are either of you going to try the new Assassin's Creed 2 out?
I own it, and it is sexy, seriously, it would be better to just not try assassins creed 1 and just go straight to 2.
I've been looking it over in the commercials and it looks more promising than one. Thanks for giving me your experience with it. Left 4 Dead 2 is better than one by a large margin as well.

Back on topic: I can nearly say 5 minutes for the Dinotopia game for Game Cube. I think I held on for 10-15 but I knew it wasn't going to work out. I like Dinotopia but I couldn't cope with the Scottish accent where it just didn't work. Threw me out of the experience like a bucket of cold water.

No games that I can think of, I have written off many mods for being complete shite though.

Edit: That is to say I've never failed to finish a game because of quality, generally I don't finish because I get bored case in point GTA4 which I found quite fun but never got around to finishing.

Half an hour of Army of Two.

I usually find something good about a game that I can value, but that game is irredeemable to me.

About an hour. Basically I bought LoTR: Conquest despite the crappy reviews simply because of how much fun I had on the demo, and I thought the full game would simply be better. After playing for probably even less than an hour i realise the demo WAS the full game, and the full game was actually shit. Paid full price on release day for that as well. Probably one of the only times I have ever felt buyer's remorse for a game i thought i'd like.

It was one of those Alt+Esc game the Escapist mentioned, Time Fcuk.

Oh wow, did I hate that game.

Technically, it was great and fun, I liked it gameplay-wise. But the music, the plot, the graphics, everything else was just dripping with pretense.

Any Jrpg, I don't know why, but I always pick one up every once in a while, play it for an hour then hate it. I will probably do it again when FFXIII comes out and I will hate that too.

Halo Wars, gave the demo 5 minutes before deciding I hated it.

I actually didn't like Bioshock when I first got it. I played about 2 hours of it the first day I got it, and just something about it didn't click with me, and I couldn't bring myself to play it again. Tried playing it again a few months later for an hour or two and the same thing happened. Another few months later, I was about to trade it in for something else when I decided to give it one final go, and I LOVED it. Played it for a week straight, it was awesome. Although I started a new game afterwards got about an hour in and was bored again, so take that for what its worth.

I also enjoyed the demo for LoTR:Conquest but I have been waiting for it to get cheaper on the used market. For some stupid reason it stayed fairly high priced for such a poorly rated game. Good thing I held out.

Super Mario Advance (Was it a port of super mario world 3 or something, I forget specifics), it was horrible to play! In what sort of Mario game do you not kill things by jumping on them!? But it was one of those games that you felt obliged to complete... AND THEN IT TURNED OUT TO HAVE ALL BEEN A DREAM!!!!

Braveheart, the PC strategy game.

Took me about 3 minutes to realize everything but the soundtrack sucked majorly. And I later found out, that the soundtrack was imported directly from the movie....

Halo: Combat Evolved, I didn't make it through the first mission. Then I got Halo 3 for free because I know a guy that works at microsoft and I tried really hard to get into the game. Even got like half way through it, but that game didn't work for me either.

FEAR 2: Project Origin

It just didn't feel right and it only took me the second mission to realize it would suck shit.
