Y'know, George Lucas really could've picked more from the badassness of, say, Shaolin monks who are indeed awesome as fuck. I mean he obviously got some inspiration there, but somehow he didn't manage to capture their essence.
Most of that badassness is pretty much result of American movies tho. Sure they developed their own martial arts and trained damn hard to perfect them, but they weren't exactly the type of running shirtless, screaming "HIIII-YAAAAH!" at everyone guys.

Let's face it, everyone is going to be Sith. We can either embrace this fact or fight a losing battle.

My personal plan to stop all the Sith roleplay will be my char Darth Fluffykittens.
I've been saying the same thing. I think there is going to be a major lack of balance between both populations and character capabilities, because honestly it seems like the developers are devoting pretty much all of their energy towards the Sith. Both in game play videos and in the cinematic trailers.

We've pretty much seen it before with games like "Warhammer Online" and what happened with Order Vs. Destruction.

I will point out that I don't think you will literally see everyone flocking to one side, and there will be a "lot" of Republic players in absolute terms even if they are outnumbered due to the sheer size of the likely player base. However the bottom line is that they are both going to be outnumbered, out-cooled, and probably substantially underpowered compared to their Sith counterparts.

It remains to be seen if Bioware is going to be able to break this trap, however so far I don't think I've seen any acknowlegement of these concerns at all, leading me to feel like I'm watching a train wreck in slow motion on a lot of levels. Being able to sit there and say "I told you so" when the game is released is little comfort when I'd prefer for the game to be balanced out to begin with.

One point I will also make is that if one side has a definate statistical advantage, it's not going to be about the storyline or what side some people like better. It's sort of like the Horde/Alliance equasion in WoW where as Penny Arcade put it rolling Alliance is one of the biggest gips in gaming. Indeed one of the big issues I've noticed with paid faction changes (at least on my server) is that a lot of people who started casual, but then went hardcore choose to jump ship for Horde (me, I play Alliance since I like being a human mage). The bottom line is that a good number of players, especially given how savvy they are today, are going to go for the faction that gives them the best chance of power leveling rapidly and plowing through endgame content and PVP most efficiently.

Oh I know, it's not the Bruce Lee type I meant but really the original, traditional monks. It's exactly that harsh training that makes them seem so awesome, hanging themselves to train their neck and throat muscles for example, just to name an extreme.

I mean, if the Jedi Temple even remotely looked like this
instead of the musty gathering of old farts in big brown robes and "younglings" with wok pans on their heads swinging toy swords at floating droids, the Jedi would've seemed way more awesome. But what's the most harsh training we see a Jedi get? Skywalker swinging on vines with a midget on his shoulders. It's like Lucas didn't even try.

PS: I oh so love the staff fighting in that vid.

i remember when warhammer online was released, EVERYONE was on the evil side....but that's because most of the good side classes and races sucked compared to the evil ones

Jedi, Sith, It does not matter for I'll be a grey jedi(/sith?) no matter what :p

I'd much rather be a Jedi/Sith with some sort of Sniper modification on my lightsaber so I could use it as a long range and close range weapon :p

It's going to be even worse in TOR where practically everyone has theorised what their Darth name would be, luckily there'll only be one "Darth Assassin" per server.
I call dibs on "Darth Brownie"

Lightsabers and Force powers?

I will definitely support the Republic. Jedi or Trooper, haven't decided yet, but I'm completely pro-Republic.
The Sith have those too but they don't have to prance about and settle disagreements between farmers, or walk around in dull brown robes. They can just smite stuff.
But at last the Jedis always win. And they have Master Yoda.

Also, they mostly only interfere with matters vital for the Republic. And wherever they go in the Repblic they are instantly in command over any local police or military forces, kinda like the RCMP, but extended to war situations too.

For the Republic!!

Thats right, kill the traitors and usurpers!

Jedi Knight baby.
I need to see more in game of the Knight and Consular, because the basic concept (better saber skills vs. better force skills), I want to see them in action before I choose one.

But yeah, Jedi all the way.

No, they won't.

Unless there is an option to run a clandestine underground operation called the "Mafia". Then we know who it's leader and prime supporter will be.
...

I have no idea what you could possibly be talking about...

Jedi and Sith both win on different occasions, such is the fate of the Star Wars universe; when one party is too dominant the Force will favour the other to ensure a new period of balance (hence the prophecy that Anakin would bring balance to the Force; he did, just not the way the Jedi liked it). That can be either Sith or Jedi. Actually, in the case of SW:TOR the Force should be in favour of the Sith.

Also, I never got the fandom of Joda. If you look at his 'wisdom' more closely it doesn't make that much sense, plus Luke at one point ignored him and turned out alright. He was pretty badass in the prequels, being a general and an overall useful character, but in the original trilogy he's just a gnomish hermit.

And at least the RCMP have awesome uniforms. Fiery red 'for the win.'

It's easy; something that would be incredibly badass if it were true, namely a secret third faction only for Bounty Hunters. They deserve it!

One can dream, right?

I personally shall be going Sith. I'm not sure which class yet, all four look interesting to some extent. I'm leaning towards either Sith Warrior or Bounty Hunter though.

I actually think the sides are going to be pretty evenly matched. If one side does have an advantage in numbers, I'd think it'd be the Republic, since I just think more people would flock to the "Good Guy" side and want to play as Jedi.

People moaned about APB. "Everyone will be criminals" it's roughly 50/50. It works.
In actual fact, there are more enforcers due to the imbalance of the factions at the moment.

So if the Republic were actually given gameplay advantages (as silly as that would be), more people would play them, as happened in APB.
As for the simple good guy/bad guy thing.. yea, it is pretty even.

Could someone explain to be what powers Jedi get over sith? From what I can tell(to be honest I don't know that much) sith get lighting and other such cool powers where Jedi can push and pull with their mind. And I'm sure the sith's have that too.

So yeah, I'm going sith.
