I know virtually all of Metroid's lore except that weird fan fiction called "Other M" and I somehow understand all of the known Metal Gear franchise and I could probably explain the lore and religions of the Elder Scrolls universe too. I should have some kind degree for reading all the lore in Elder Scrolls

Probably Metal Gear. I've played through MGS 1 2 and 3 multiple times and have played through Metal Gear for the MSX. I'm currently working through Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. I've also played most of Peace Walker, and the Gameboy version of MGS. I'm unfamiliar with some handheld-only titles like Portable Ops and Acid, but I like to think I have a pretty decent grasp on the overall story, convoluted and complex as it is. I know lots of trivia about the series, but there's also a ton of trivia I don't know. The games are just too jam packed with references, easter eggs, and behind the scenes facts that it'd be pretty crazy to learn it all. This is pretty much the only series where I've greatly enjoyed every game released. I'm actually a pretty new fan, but once I got a hold of the games I just gobbled em up one after another.

The next would probably be the Legend of Zelda. It's not even a favorite series of mine, I just happened to have played most titles. I own all the home console titles and a few handheld titles. I find the lore and the connections between games pretty interesting, and I've spent a lot of time just surfing Zeldapedia and Zeldawiki reading interesting facts and theories.

There are single games I know a lot more about, but these are pretty much the only 2 series I could claim to have a wholesome grasp on the overall franchise.

Pokemon. Aside from history and lore, I know an entire library's worth of (admittedly useless) trivia and theories.
How come I've never seen you in my Gotta Catch 'em All forum game then? :)

Myst. I can recount the gist of D'ni history from their fleeing Gartenay to Atrus finding Terahnee and shacking away in Releeshahn - to the point where some of my relatives who consider themselves as serious point-and-clickers seriously wonder where I get all this stuff.

Just about the only things I haven't tried is attending a Mysterium convention or actually bothering to learn D'ni. I started and stopped with "Shorah!", and that was it for me.

Actually, I used to frequent that particular forum game quite often. If I remember correctly, there was a short period where you and I were basically keeping the thread afloat by ourselves.

I was going by the username "Shax" at the time, but I changed it after joining the Pub Club. Considering that I also had a different avatar, it's no wonder you didn't recognize me :p

I know an embarrassing amount about Silent Hill.

The winner, however, is Myst. I know how to count in D'ni numbers, I know where Ka'tran (punctuation?)/Catherine comes from, I know who she almost married instead, I know who writes which worlds with which style, I know why Gehn's worlds kept disintegrating, I know the names of the various ages even when we're not explicitly told, I know who the Grower is, I know what killed the D'ni civilization,

and I might know

a little bit

of Dn'i

language...

;_____;

If I had more time, I'd probably become an integral member of Myst Online, but as it is, I'm too busy to dedicate the hours and hours that other people do.

Assassin's Creed would be mine. I ended up reading the Assassin's Creed Wiki, just for more information on it and learning everything I could about the world.

Always happy to be of service in the name of Pokemon.

OT: Since I mentioned Pokemon theories in my original post, I thought I'd share my favorite: The Ditto Mew Clone theory.

According to the theory, it's possible that the Pokemon Ditto was first made in a failed attempt to clone Mew. You know how Ditto can transform into any Pokemon? Well, it just so happens that Mew's DNA contains the genetic code for all Pokemon. If Ditto were a failed clone of Mew, this would explain its misshapen appearance, and its ability to transform. In addition to that, Mew and Ditto share the exact same weight, and their colors are the same, both for their normal and shiny forms.

Furthermore, the only two places in Red and Blue that you could catch a Ditto were in the Mansion on Cinnabar island (the place where scientists birthed Mewtwo from a Mew that they somehow obtained), and in the cave where you find Mewtwo (the encounter rate for Ditto increases as you get closer to Mewtwo, according to the theory).

Is this all a coincidence? Possibly, but I love it so much because it's manages to be plausible enough for one to entertain the thought that it might be true.

I know a lot about the halo series and Mass Effect but outside of gaming it's all about Star Trek, I've found myself pouring through the memory alpha wiki page for hours on end repeatedly, strangely though I know very little about the original series but masses from all the other series.

I'm gonna say Kingdom Hearts. Played all the games, understood all the stories, know most, if not all, the lore and back story. The only thing I'm not too familiar with are the interviews with Nomura, but I have a cheat sheet for that.
Could you explain to me then how and when will they finally get over Xehanort? They seem to rewrite the rules of the KH universe with every new game they make. First we have "Somebodies" turning into Heartless... then it turns out once you defeat a Heartless, a Nobody comes out... then once you defeat that too, apparently they turn back into Somebodies... is it never over? Do they just keep making games like Final Fantasy to the point it becomes a dead horse, or is there an actual end plotted?
When someone's heart is consumed by darkness, that becomes a heartless; Nobodies comes from the remains of the body that now does not have a heart. When both are destroyed, then that person comes back in their original form. So, unless Xehanort is defeated without his heart being consumed by darkness again and basically becoming both a heartless and a nobody again, yes it can be never ending...

So far, Kingdom Hearts 3 will be the conclusion to the Xehenort arc... So, there's your long-story-short answer...

Also, the only Final Fantasy games that could be considered "being beaten by a dead horse" would be FF7 (which I don't see it) or FF13 (which that's debatable)... Since every FF game is not technically connected (unless it shows in the title, like X-2 or XIII-2) story-wise, the only "dead horse" to be found is the concept and the reoccurring elements... but, even that's debatable to an extent...

Personally I'd have to say Disgaea. Like TheYellowCellPhone said about TF2, the story, lore, and universe are just so funny it's hard not to want to look up every obscure reference. Speaking of which, that ends up making me a big fan of and knowledge base for the rest of Nippon Ichi's games just because all of their works exist in an every growing multiverse, and the most notable characters are known to jump from universe to universe for various dumb and hilarious reasons.

Either Fallout or Halo.

I love the setting of Fallout, and, barring that... STUPID Human Forerunner War thing, I eat up and love all Halo lore.

The Legend of Zelda, I know my way through just about every dungeon in all the games. I could tell you the names of most of the characters and enemies, and tell you what game they first showed up in. I could tell you location of every heart piece, gold skulltula, Poe soul, mask etc. I know the lore inside and out, I recognize words in the language, all that good stuff.

I'll give an honorable mention to Pokemon, show me a picture of any of the 649 so far, and I can tell you its name, type, and where you can find it in the wild off the top of my head.

Probably Pokemon. I know more about it than most people. The main reason I want to punch people in the face when they quote something from it that's false.

I wonder how you'd stack up against my brother. I never played any Myst game, but he's played them all, most of them many times. I know he understands D'ni numbers, he knows all the characters and everything they did and why they did it, he knows a whole lot about how the worlds work and all that. That would be his answer to this question.

But my answer is certainly Mass Effect. It's crazy how much trivia I can call up about those games; I know so much, that I find myself reminded all the time by ordinary things in real life of something from one of the games. I can probably recall any character you want to name and what he/she/it does, and I know just about all of the history and scientific/technical information found in the codices of all three games. I even know a lot of the contradictions; for example, the M-920 Cain has different descriptions of its functionality between ME2 and ME3, and I have no idea who on the ME3 writing team forgot that the Cain already had an explanation and wrote his own that contradicts it.

I just tend to remember every bit of information, great and small, about the things I truly love and truly care about. I'm the same way with Star Trek and LotR. It actually feels really great to be able to have a conversation, from memory and without referencing any material, about anything and everything in these fictional universes.

This, but i know more about the fantasy version of warhammer. Unfortunately i dont think i can include that in this thread, because fantasy has never had a good video game as of yet (dont let me down creative assembly) unlike 40k. I do know that Bugmans bar (which is inside Warhammer world (which is games workshop hq)) is right next to my university though, so maybe i can get some points for that.
I beg the differ, this game is pretty awesome

As for myself, I thought I knew most about baldurs gate, planescape: tormented and fallot 1 and 2. But every time I replayed them I discover that I know nothing.
