Well for me, the first game that ever 'blew me away' enough that I wanted to do more than just play casually and wanted to seriously get into games was still Halo: Combat evolved.
I loved the action, the cinematic story telling and the general atmosphere. Seriously, it's one of those games that I just loved and couldn't get enough of.
You know, as much as I was enraptured by The Ocarina of Time, my time with it was sadly too short :(

But the game that really grabbed me by the cojones with it's adrenaline pumping action, cinematic story telling and breath taking graphics was the same as yours.

Halo: Combat Evolved.

The first game I actually finished without cheats, and the first game I *wanted* to finish to see what would happen to the Master Chief and Cortana, and the Marines.... would the Ring be fired??

I still remember my playthrough of The Library.... *shudders*

Hmmm...

I think Pokemon Blue really introduced me to the idea of playing games as more than just a passing amusement. And I still play my first savegame. I am nostalgia's *****.

Space Invaders

That was the first game I remember playing and got me hooked from a wee young age, then my dad got an NES for Christmas and that solidified my gamer-ness.

For me, it wasn't just one game. It was games like Mortal Kombat 3, Excitebike 64, Goldeneye, The World Is Not Enough, Super Mario Brothers, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. These games, among others, helped me in becoming a gamer.

A glorious Pentium 120 with SIXTEEN megs of ram !!! Though many of my freinds considered me Insane {and still do} , always knew I was a Gamer

I would say that Pokemon Blue was the first game that held my attention. After that I decided to give gaming more of a chance an here I am 10 years later.

Probably the Star Wars Podracer on N64. It was a very impressive game that led me to start playing the N64 and bought even more titles that firmly cemented me as a gamer, Perfect Dark, and Goldeneye 007.

It's tricky tricky tricky tricky tricky HUH!

Yup, SSX Tricky introduced me to the madness that is the gaming universe. Before I knew it all I did was play that game until I discovered Max Payne which really made me "a gamer".
I LOVED SSX Tricky! It wasn't what made me a gamer, but I spent a lot of time playing that game. I loved me some Mac, for sure.

OT: I was always "interested" in gaming, but Assassin's Creed really sealed the deal for me once I realized what an amazing game could actually be.

(Playing Luigi's Mansion and Wind Waker was a blast, but I never considered myself a "gamer", then. I was too young at the time to label myself like that. Back then, it was just a hobby, not a "lifestyle".)

For me, it was Haunting Ground.

For the longest time, I played Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts only. No other game seemed to exist to me. xD

But then I was interested in Haunting Ground because of your dog companion. I got it and it scared the crap out of me, but it made me love Survival Horror games and that eventually led me into liking games as a whole.

Super Mario World, SNES. My childhood memories consist of that game, for hours on end.
And 'special' time. But that's a completely different story.
