Yahtzee isn't funny anymore to me. I find his reviews are getting stale and it's basically hating for the sake of hating. And the 15 seconds of 'NOOOO' was worse than the Darth Vader episode 3 'NOOO'.
I knew everyone is a critic here, but I do agree not all his reviews are going to be funny or as original as his early stuff. However I never expect anything to be good every time, like every band is going to have crap songs and every TV show is going to have crap episodes, its the way of life!

So maybe cut him some slack, its just one thing extra to look forward to every week. And on the topic of TV shows I am happy to say South Park is starting soon Yaaaay!
As an example, Yahtzee just posted his reviews of Castle Crashers and Bionic Commando:Rearmed. While he was disappointed with BC:R, I respect his opinion. I don't think he hates on a game because he has too. I loved the game, but some of the stuff he said about the games flaws I also found to be true. Same with Castle Crashers. One of my favourite games this year, but what he said about losing your character on screen was painfully true.

To me you are the only one bitching here, Yahtzee brings up alot of good points and he is a critic duh! he finds all the flaws and exploits them. I can't believe you only came onto this topic just whine about other peoples opinions, thats just pathetic!
So, let me get this straight:

If I come on here to complain about games it's OK. But, if I defend games and complain about Yahtzee it's not OK? Please explain how that double-standard works and why it's pathetic.

It's amazing that someone can make a statement like this about a CRITIC, who really produces nothing of value other than an opinion, but people are so hard on developers that do the actual work.

You can just as easily make that statement about games. Not everything is going to be a masterpiece.

Because this thread is about 'The game you had highest expectations for that let you down', and you coming onto here saying that everyone that has problems with games today should be called the 'Spoiled Generation' kinda makes you an asshole.

Oh and developers can do alot better, they really don't test games and say they will do things but end up not doing them. It is completely different to music, TV shows and Yahtzees reviews because they need to produce something different everytime to make it interesting. However that doesn't matter so much with games aslong as they are fun!

I was seriously let down with Legacy Of Kain: Defiance. This game was supposed to be the end of the series and answer any lingering questions, in this the game was a major let down. The first 4 games (Blood Omen 1,2 & Soul Reaver 1,2) were awesome in every sense of the word. But then again most sequels do tend to suck.

You are quite generous with Blood Omen 1, it was a catastrophic game with unclear progression, retarded difficulty, weak storytelling and unimmersive game engine...
I always see it as a vampire-goth zelda clone with too much edge and not enough actual gameplay... Plus it was hard as hell due to lazy programming...

Good thing they made some efforts with Soul Reaver.

Defiance must be played like a beat'em all, and there is indeed something lost in the transition...

I can't believe it...six pages, and not a single mention of Age of Conan?
Then again, I suspect the majority of it's ex-players have entirely given up on gaming, game forums and humanity.

I get what you're saying about the pacing of the game, but I don't agree regarding the story. I don't know what more you want from the story; the almost complete destruction of humanity and you (Gordon Freeman) spark the true rebellion. It's quite a good study on the way a mythic hero can influence the masses and become more than a normal person. It has believable characters and isn't about how the USA saves the world. The main character isn't a busty feminist or a macho football player, he's an everyday man who does extra ordinary things.
Just those few points puts half life 2 in a separate class compared to other games out there. I've read quite a few books from different genres and times and still enjoyed the HL2 story. Maybe you just went into the game with the wrong mindset.
I haven't read Harry Potter, is it good? I'm sure a book which took 7 years to write should be good.
you'd be wrong on the 7 years = good bit, its pretty average.

your summing up of the storyline there actually supports exactly what i was saying when i said a standard formula. it would indeed be an epic tale, if i hadn't read it so many times before.

for my quality sci-fi, i look to this chap:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alastair_Reynolds

his revelation space series is a masterpiece, made all the more fascinating by the fact that he was a practicing scientist at the European Space Research and Technology Centre, and only writes about stuff he thinks is possible. its mind-expanding stuff, which is what i look for in my books, even fiction ones. a side effect of this is i also apply this standard to movies and games. as a result, very few games stand up to my expectations of a storyline, and HL2 was no exception in that regard. its not special in its failure, its only special in that everyone insists its so good when its actually not, in a similar way to halo and AOE3.

Hellgate: London
Since Hellgate:London was the first game in ages that I had no expectations for, I was pleasantly surprised.

the only thing I like about too human is its level gaining system (Easy as just fighting a horde of enemies then leaving the place and coming back to fight them again.) its sweet armor collection and weapon cache. Everything else is either below par, or downright shit. Story, controls, and AI. If this thing has the balls to say its going to be a trilogy it better fix the shit it started.

Soul Calibur did let me down slightly, although the pain of disappointment from Final Fantasy X still lingers. I played the game smooth enough, and enjoyed it for the most part .... Its just that Tidus is such a whiney ***** ... Rikku, Lulu and Auron were pretty much the saviors of the game

GTA 4 and Spore. Supposed revolutions turn and quickly become crushed under their own hype. Hopfully Will Wright gives up on Spore and just focuses on The Sims 3 and makes it as revolutionary as the console version of The Sims 2 was.
