Brrrun Bruuuuuuunnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!
in all reality I'd choose a halberd, just so I can do my stabbing from a good safe distance.

Does construction equipment count as a melee weapon? If so, I pick a wrecking ball. By which I mean a spaceship with a nanotube tow cable attached to Unicron. Or maybe that's more of a morningstar...

In any case, if I have to pick something that won't allow me to take the fight to interplanetary scales, I'd go with spiky gauntlets. With them, you can both block and facepunch. In the face. With spikes.

Hmm..a careful choice.

I'm torn between a two-handed scimitar and a set of the daisho. The former is well balanced and heavy, carrying the versatility of a sword and the cutting weight of an axe. The latter is generally held to be exceptionally sharp and, with proper training, can be used both independently or as a set (dual-wield).

Given the myths about dual-wielding, I'd probably stick with the scimitar.
You do know that all weapons properly made are extremely sharp right? The term "exceptionally" does not apply. All weapons today are practically made out of the same materials and you cant exactly make one version of a steel sharp thing sharper than another version of a steel sharp thing.

Bastard Sword (also called a hand and a half sword).

Preferably with a serrated blade

I'm guessing lightsabers are out?

I have fought with medieval weapons on occasion, and I found that a straight two-handed longsword (still light enough to be used in one hand if needed, some call it a bastard sword), or a short spear were best suited for me in terms of speed and strength, so now I have the technique for those as well (not both at the same time, though...). Well, at least more so than with many other weapons.

A spoon. I'd be scared shitless if my opponent would come with a tea spoon with a straight and serious face. What is he going to do with a stinking spoon?! MY GOD. So I go for the spoon.

A dagger. I dodge the other guy and jam the blade up his armpit or eyehole. You can move quickly with it, that's a huge plus.

Bardiche, I choose you!

Definitely the Bardiche. It's a short pole-arm with a giant blade. It was generally used as a mount for a rifle, but it also makes a great melee weapon. Get too close and *FSHWOOMP*. You've just been bifurcated, buddy.

ouch...

On the interplanitary scale, then we might as well go on intergalactic/-universal.

Well, he does use drills as melee weapons....
