Not to draw the wrath of the moderators, but I wanted to share a video from the youtuber Mr.Repzion on the subject of DC turning a superhero gay... and a video Response to him:

the Mr.Repzion vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VA5oKplv8Ck

the response (it's in 2 parts, youtube's 10min limit strikes again):
part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ4mvqFVGYI
part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBJu6JwkwNU

I know we are talking more about the OMM response but I wanted to share this.

I dont agree with either sides.

Omm's comment

Or the decision to suddenly make a character gay and publicize it so much.

So everybodys wrong, as always.

Well, they believe that being gay is a sin. They believe that it is morally wrong, harmful, and the world would be better off without people being gay.

Why do they believe this? Reasons! I didn't actually give a reason you say? Shut up, that's why!

Oh, and it's in the Bible. Except, it's actually not really. And the place where it in theory is is right next to the thing that says that wearing clothes make of cotton AND polyester is punishable by death. But someones pastor said gayness is a sin, so no actual personal faith or religious introspection is required. Just blind dogma.

Why the blind Dogma? I mean, the only reason for it is the desire to believe in a fair and just universe with a loving God who ostensibly inspires kindness and love and acceptance and...oh. Right. So they believe in a God for, if not an accurate reason, an understandable and moral reason. And once you get caught up in the idea of all powerful, universally loving force of absolute good, you kinda don't notice when some dick sneaks in some anti-gay propaganda into the rules.

Once you arrive at this conclusion, you run into the, "Just World" problem. You believe in a loving God. You struggle with the idea of evil in a world with a loving God. Philosophers have been doing that for centuries, so are uptight moms, if perhaps with a little less sophistication. They have been told that Homosexuality is a sin, and accepted it because everyone takes shortcuts when it comes to your moral code, and that man who said the gay is evil also organized that charity drive to raise money for my friends son's lung cancer treatment or something. So you think gayness is a sin and you run into a problem: If being gay is a sin, how could God make people be BORN gay? That's just a dick move, and God may be weird and distant and completely non-understandable in a normal sense, but he is not a dick. The only explanation is that he didn't, people choose to be gay of their own free will. This means that it is possible for a person to become gay through outside influences. Since this belief is a total fantasy, they have to blame it on society, those people who see that there's no reason to have a problem with gays. Bam, instant alarmism, welcome to crazy town.

Homophobes believe that DC is trying to indoctrinate kids into a gay style for morally centered, understandable (if fallacious) reasons. Doesn't make them any less of a bunch of blithering idiots, but it does explain how they got their.

I think you just won the best joke of this thread. Hazah.

OT: Anti-gay groups will moan about anything. What's that? the inventor of pie was a homosexual. Evil! Pie is evil, ban ALL pies. Please won't somebody think of the children.

I can really see where OMM is coming from, I mean, when I see a super awesome character who happens to be gay; bam. I'm gay too! I really have to be careful about the media consume since we are all so impressionable! (Last time I played Fable, I went on a polygamy streak and killed dozens of white werewolves!)

On a serious note, I thought comics/graphic novels now-a days were geared more towards adults anyhow.

I didn't know she was real! http://gta.wikia.com/Jan_Brown

I don't really care if a hero is in fact homosexual, if it's a good book I will read it.

This is the first I've learned of the Alan Scott/Green Lantern rumors, and OMFG DC's dropping the ball again. He'll be a c-lister at best, it makes me wonder if gay readers are so starved for content that they'll keep a comic series afloat anyway.

And there I was being logical and assuming they'll take a character from the 70's that wasn't written with a love interest and was quite popular with gay readers until DC decided they can't have that.

Comic book writers never seem to miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

How does being a mother excuse being a homophobic moron?

Any animal can breed, your opinion isn't worth more just because you can fulfill a biological imperative.

'Won't somebody think of the children' and 'As a mother...' are the worst precursors to bigoted statements since 'I'm not a racist but...'
Hey, hey, hey! I think that's a little fucking unfair, don't you? I mean, you left out 'As a Christian...'.

Having a minority represented in any media is never a bad thing. I don't see any problem with this. It's the same to me as having a red haired hero
Let's not get ahead of ourselves, I don't want none of them fancy gingers thinking they own the place.

OT: Clearly they believe that they want to influence young boys to pitch tents for them, thereby invoking The Circle of Gay. That's what The Lion King was about, after all.

As a Christian, I find that incredibly unfair and hypocritical.

...However, as a Christian who has actually SEEN the idiots you are talking about, I can't be angry about it -_-

Try saying I'm not racist but... and then actually saying something that isn't racist. It's fun.

OT: I am honestly surprised by the amount of backlash towards homosexuals in the USA, It just seems so disproportionately larger than that of other developed countries. That and these woman are xenophobic pricks.

I choose to think that, at this point, it's mainly fueled by last-minute desperation. Public acceptance of gays has been rising steadily for years, a majority of the country now favors marriage equality, and the most virulently anti-gay segments of the population are eventually going to die off, or at least shrink to the point where they can't really affect anything. So they're in now-or-never mode.

I agree with OMM because everything was better in the old days when having (to quote Vault101) "teh gay" didn't exist and everything was good and wholesome. Right? Right??? Oh...
oh...

I am much honoured :)

anyway...going by the amount of homophic closted gay people I really don't think kids can be "sold" on the Idea of being gay...and even if some kid was like "I'm gonna be gay!" without knowing what it really ment

he'd find out for sure by highschool

Its sad to me. It really is. Because when you get right down to it. The ONLY people you get to hear voice dissent about homosexuality are the insane wingnuts like this

Yet it is STILL consistently defeated as a proposition when it comes up for popular vote. I get that the media loves nothing more to focus on the worst case examples like finding the most toothless person to interview when a twister tears through a trailer park, but this is ridiculous. Its like a bully punching a disabled kid in the dark and still ending up getting his ass kicked. If they gave the least little bit of exposure to those resisting on logical ground it would be understandable, but this is ALL you ever see presented as opposition and even IT is too much.

Now as for the gay sales pitch... The concern is not that it is going to "turn them gay" Its that it will desensitize it through over exposure to become tolerant of the position and in turn grow up to vote affirmatively for it even if they do not wish it for themselves. Though Its understandable how that gets lost in translation when all you ever hear is the batshit crazies on the mic.

He was straight even had 2 kids but with the reboot there really isn't anything about him set in stone so anything can go and they are taking advantage of it by getting rid of his family and making him gay.

Somebody hide Neil Patrick Harris!

He will turn everybody gay!

But for serious OMM needs to go away. What a terrible message to be teaching your children.
Fixed that for you.

OT: Realistically in their deluded minds it's probably something like; We have candy, you can do whatever you want, blah, blah, and they just think Demons... blah, blah, Satan... evil, blah, blah, blah.
