Wow, 19 sheets in less than a week. When's the gate going to close?
I don't have a deadline as of yet, since my co-GM is currently lacking a computer on which to write his sheet. I'm also expecting sheets from at least three people who have yet to post them.

Name: Jacob Calvin Crakehaven, he goes by Jake as a general rule.
Age: 19
Sex: Male

Appearance: Jake is tall and fairly skinny. He's pale, his face and arms coated in a light sprinkling of freckles. His hair is reddish-brown. He tends to let it grow longer than is ideal, and it's often long enough that it's dangling into his eyes. His eyes are brown, and usually behind rectangular, wire-rimmed glasses. He's fairly bony, particularly in the face - gaunt would be another good word for him, although it bears rather sinister connotations, and Jake cannot pull off sinister. His dress sense is not so much atrocious as it is nonexistent - basic shirts and jeans in single colors more often than not, with black sneakers. For formal occasions he does have a charcoal suit, but he hardly ever wears it.

Personality: Jake prides himself on being a pretty smart guy, but most would probably describe him as being laid back. However, that's not quite accurate - apathetic is a better word. He's coasting along in life, going nowhere and doing nothing. He doesn't know what he's doing at college, he shouldn't be here, he has no idea what he wants to do - he hasn't even selected a major, and that comes back to the core of his personality - he takes life too easily, too comfortably.

He's never really pushed himself, never tested himself to find his limits, instead just relying on his intelligence to get him through - never at the top where he probably could have been if he applied himself, but always doing comfortably well. Jake has all kinds of dreams, but he lacks the willpower to see them through to the end. He's got boundless creativity, but lacks the drive to actually commit to a work. He often seems like a man waiting for his life to start, for something to come around to actually make him feel invested instead of just continuing to exist.

In personal interactions, Jake is quiet and shy more often than not, particularly when dealing with women. He doesn't spend a lot of time with people he doesn't already know pretty well. While he's able - eager, even - to speak his mind when given the opportunity, he has trouble starting conversations.

Biography: Jake - the youngest of three - was born in Silverhollow, and has always lacked any real kind of direction in his life. Never had many friends, mostly kept within his family, counting his siblings as his closest friends and coasting through school on talent without bothering to really put in any kind of effort. He spent most of his early years with his nose in books - fantasy and sci-fi for novels, and a good number of superhero comics, and became somewhat withdrawn.

Adolescence didn't do much to excite him either - puberty might have brought an appeal in the form of women, but it also brought a new obstacle, as he really had no idea how to approach them and the advice of his brothers and father really didn't seem to help much - it might have been perfectly valid, but it didn't seem to apply very well to him. He had enough difficulty striking up conversations with other guys. On the other hand, his quiet, shy nature did result in a fairly pleasant high school experience, Jake able to indulge his hobbies and barely gaining any attention from jocks.

Lacking any real driving force in his life, Jake mostly coasted through elementary and high school, scoring well but not great, but good enough to attend nearby Goldmar University with a respectable if not impressive scholarship. It was an obvious, comfortable choice, so he went for it, even going so far as to move into the dorms. College has made him alter his practices somewhat, the new challenges forcing him to actually study for once in his life, but it hasn't stopped him from generally half-assing it, doing good enough to get acceptable grades, but not actually putting his best effort into it.

Notes: If you want to set Jake off on a rant, bring up One More Day, the Marvel Civil War, Avengers Arena, or the New 52.

Noel's updated sheet!

Name: Noel Brandt
Age: 21
Sex: Female

Appearance: Noel is of average height with fare skin, big green eyes and shoulder-length amber hair which curl up on the ends. She isn't the most fashionable young woman and prefers functionality above all else. She usually wears a track jacket with a tank top or t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. She'll wear a one-piece dress if she feels like being fancy and owns a number of suits for formal functions.

Personality: Noel derives joy from the happiness of others. The more she can do to help out the better she feels. While she is incredibly sociable and helpful she is somewhat closed off to others. Her ambitions and convictions make it hard for her to trust others with her emotions. Essentially she'll listen to your problems and help you out, but remain a complete mystery herself.

This isn't to say that she doesn't share her life's story. In fact, she's quite open in that regard. As a would-be politician she understands the importance of transparency. However, when it comes to emotions... she prefers to keep them to herself. The reason for this is equal parts baggage (see Background) and her professional nature. She's got a good sense of humor and a sincere disposition, but when it comes down to it she is a very serious person that would prefer to address an issue as soon as it is made known.

Incredibly proud, Noel believes her problems pale in comparison to that those around her. If someone offers help (unless she knows she needs it) she will more often than not turn them down. She'd prefer to manage things from a leadership position in which "help" is more akin to instructions she's given to her subordinates. She's out to prove herself to the world, though at times it may seem her father's approval is what she is truly seeking.

Perhaps her greatest weakness is that if she can't solve your problem and you continue to suffer... she'll feel helpless. Her biggest plight is that of others. Her determination in this regard is admirable, but it can come as a detriment to herself.

She drinks more coffee than any human should in order to get through her busy days and usually airs out pent up stress and anxiety with a glass of wine at the end of the day. She's been careful not to get in the habit of drinking alone when she's depressed or stressed out, but she's already done it more times than she's comfortable with.

Biography: Noel's mother died when she was ten-years-old and she was essentially forced to help her father raise her little sister as his political career consumed his day-to-day. She resented it at first, but as she and her sister grew closer Noel began to see her true calling take form. She developed a very strong sense of responsibility and became a bit of a daddy's girl. Being a hard-hitting politician and the current state senator of Silverhollow's district, her father instilled in her the mind of an ambitious civil servant and has helped pave the path for her future career in politics. This, coupled with her experiences raising her younger sister, made her into a woman who lived for others. Though she has yet to tell her father, she's actually grown more interested in diplomacy than domestic politics.

During High School she headed the debate team at her school, was the class president and volunteered at every church in her neighborhood. She had a full plate and upon entering college it didn't get any smaller. Now in her Junior year she's in a number of political and cultural clubs, writes guest columns for the school paper, is a member of the student government and volunteers at the local animal shelter. She'll sleep when she's dead.

While this burning sense of responsibility and selflessness would undoubtedly make Noel a priceless asset to any corporation or organization that'd take her, she is far from perfect. Growing up her father judged everything that came out of her mouth, every person she associated herself with, and every thought she had. His approval was something Noel has been striving for her entire life and she's learned numerous times that a thought's not worth having unless it concerns the issue at hand.

She may have friends at school who know her well, but she's never confided in any of them. The only one she trusts with her feelings and inner thoughts is her kid sister, Saya (still in High School).

Notes: Noel is a woman of vision, a brilliant futurist and extremely motivated. The recent appearance of super powered people has both excited and terrified her. As she learns more about them she gets more and more ideas for the future.

I was gonna have Counter post my sheet, but then I realized I had some extra things I wanted to add to it. So, uhh...hm. Yeah.

Name: Dominic Salazar-Tate
Age: 21
Sex: Male

Appearance: Dominic stands at 6'0", at around 150 lbs. He possesses the body of a runner, a thin stature on an equally thin, fit frame. While he may've taken his father's size and physique, it was clear that his genes are dominated by his mother's side of the family. As such, he shares traits that give the two a close resemblance, including his mom's olive-tan skin, dark brown eyes, and black hair. His sense of fashion, however, was a result of joint meddling from both parents.

He tends to dress in a business-casual sort of way, tops consisting of slimming button-down dress shirts, ties, vests, sweaters, and the like. Bottoms usually fluctuate between jeans and hi-top sneakers, and slacks with shoes. He tends to stay clean shaven, and will shorten his hair whenever it gets too shaggy.

Personality: Dom is considered to be the determined, proactive type. Not afraid to make friends, not afraid to speak his mind, and not afraid to stand up to oppression. Knows how to stick to a project, and will always see it to its end. His attitude makes him somewhat confrontational, and sometimes his bravery can make him a little hardheaded, diving headfirst into opposition without fully considering the consequences.

He'll usually wear a neutral (that ranges from 'anxiously attentive' to 'sleepily uninterested') expression. I mean, he's more than capable of being upbeat, cheery, and excited, but you'd hear it more in his voice then you'd see it in his face. If you get lucky, you might see a bit of smirk crack from his lips. However, when he's aggravated, you'd know. He's weird like that.

Biography: Silverhollow's just about all Dom knows. He's had the pleasure of living in Brightfields his entire life. He watched the turf wars flourish like a flame all around him, and could only look on in horror as the wars claimed the life of SHPD officer Horatio Tate, his father. From then on he was determined to do several things: help end the war, move his mother out of Brightfields, and join the SHPD.

Upon graduating from high school, Dom received a scholarship for Goldmar University, in Milennial. His mother, Maria Salazar, was more overjoyed than he was. He wanted to take up a major in Criminal Justice, with a minor in Criminology (if that was even possible). What he didn't want, however, was to leave his mother by herself in Brightfields, as he knew she was coming along in age.

"Don't worry about me mijo. You have to do this. For me. For your father." She reassures him. "When I come back, it'll be with a moving truck. I'm gonna get you outta here, momma. Then, I'm gonna clean up these streets." It was a vow he made to both his mother, and himself. Years pass, and even as he managed to move his mother to Stonefalcon, Brightfields is still deteriorating from the raging gang wars. And even as he nears the home stretch of his four-year course, he knows there's still work to be done. And once he's accepted on the force, nothing's going to stop him from his ambitions.

Notes: Back when Horatio was alive, he'd tell young Dominic stories about one of his co-workers, the hero-cop Detective Jack Hartfield. From what he remembers, Dom thinks very highly of the officer, even if he's never met him in person. Some might even say he's one of the reasons why Dom wants to join the force, and with good reason. "The guy sounds like a living legend, why wouldn't I want to work beside him?"

He also has an ever-so-slightest dash of Spanish accent to his voice. It's barely noticeable to those he rarely hangs around, but everyone on his father's side of the family (and some of his closer friends) seems to get a kick out of it. They'll tell him to "say something Antonio Banderas would say" and, occasionally, he'd (obnoxiously) oblige them.

Ahh, it looked so much bigger in Word.*sits back, reads* Wait...I just made a tanner John Blake, didn't I? Dammit. "Will somebody get this hothead outta here?!" Heheheh.

If you're talking about me, then I apologize for my tardiness. If not, ignore everything after this point and then I'll go and be a ginger somewhere else. My well of inspiration has pretty much run dry since my idea for a seemingly friendly serial killer antagonist got shot down. I respect and understand your stance on the matter, but I have no other ideas for characters that I believe I can pull off. Any advice/general wisdom is always appreciated.

My advice is this: don't try to make your character exceedingly different from those that are already present. As I've said many times in this thread, character sheets I deem suitable are average, ordinary university students with no specialised talents, training or special abilities (and definitely no superpowers, nor any knowledge that they will be gaining them). They've had an ordinary life up until this point: school, socialising, maybe a high-school romance. There is, of course, some degree of abnormality that comes with the emergence of superheroes - seen primarily on the news and such - but right now they shouldn't play too big a part in characters' lives.

We're not looking for characters who are serial killers, hitmen, free-runners or any other outlandish type you can think of. The entire point of this role-play is, in a nutshell, normal people gaining superpowers. Emphasis on the 'normal'.

I think I just stroke out my own character by giving him a military background. I just figured that since he was broke, and I read an article about more people going to the military to pay the bills in the USA that making him a soldier to gather up the cash for a degree would fit in a game (and society) set in the USA.
It's nothing special, really. He's just more buff than an ordinary bystander, just as much as any other weight-lifter. With that said, I should probably remove the languages part... maybe that's taking it too far?

I get the "normal" bit, and all my ideas stemmed from that, but I don't really have any more plausable ideas after "college student gets superpowers, mentally cracks, and becomes a bizarre mash up of Sylar from Heroes and Ted Bundy". At one point, I had an idea for a character that was essentially the character Roomie from the webcomic Go Get a Roomie*, but I doubt I have the skill required to pull off a PG-13 sexually promiscuous homeless hippie deviant that drinks too much. At least, not in a way that wouldn't get me banned by a wrathful mod, or given the boot by you for "not being normal enough"/sexual content.

Playing as a Lesbian Pirate from Outer Space sounds pretty neat... why would you be punished for doing that?

I was recommended that comic by a friend, and for you to pull off that kind of character in a PG-13 setting isn't implausible I believe. I just imagine a lot of double entendre in conversations and general open sense of love, life, and liberty. Then again, the choice is wholly up to you and your judgement.

So by your definition of normal, do have backgrounds such as military training, hunting, or Parkour and otherwise, actually put people down the rung for sheet selection? It isn't actually uncommon as I've a few friends around me who do all of the above (not all three at once, insane and entertaining as it might be)
None of them have super human traits, and are either average and at the least a little fitter and wiser when it comes to these subjects, to quote one of my favorite authors,
Terry Pratchett-"Ninety percent of most magic merely consists of knowing one extra fact."

If you plan on just going by what you've laid out, then I'll change my sheet to reflect that.

To be blunt, yes. If your character has special training or something to that extent, it has the chance of decreasing their chances of being accepted. I am aware that ex-military university students are common in the USA[footnote]For the record, I live in New Zealand, and I am aware that there is a discrepancy in my judgement as a result.[/footnote] - especially in certain states where there aren't many other options - but I want the player-characters to be, for the most part, largely inexperienced when it comes to combat situations.

People are free to submit ex-military characters if they wish. I won't stop anyone from doing so. I'm just saying that I'm not too big a fan of the idea, primarily for the reason outlined above.

Name: Brent Foster
Age: 21
Sex: Male

Appearance: As far as college-age white guys go, Brent is pretty average. He stands at 5'8" and has an average sized build. While not overweight, he's not in shape by any definition of the phrase. He has blue-grey eyes, short black hair, and wears thick-rimmed black glasses. A failed experiment at growing a beard gave birth to a goatee/mustache combo, which he keeps neatly trimmed. When it comes to fashion, Brent's wardrobe comes primarily from thrift shops. Mainly due to being a college student on a tight budget, but also because he enjoys it. His closet is full of assorted blazers, suits, and coats in addition to regular shirts. He also has an affinity for fedoras and bowler hats. On your average day, Brent is seen wearing a t-shirt with an unbuttoned suit, jeans, and a well-worn pair of sneakers.

Personality: Brent is a laid-back person, if a little lazy and disorganized at times. Despite his lazy demeanor, he tends to get very loud and animated when discussing subjects he is passionate about. He can also be described as a trustworthy, reliable friend and a bit of a hopeless romantic. He is not one to hold grudges and does his best to solve conflicts with people as they arise. Brent is also an avid gamer and a bit of a music and film buff. When not gaming or doing school work, he can also be seen reading anything from science fiction novels to old game magazines. In addition, he enjoys the occasional walk through the city; the bustling urban life makes him feel invigorated.

Biography:
Brent was born in Barstow, California on March 5, 1992 to Doctor Thomas Foster and his wife Mary. Brent remembers his birthplace affectionately as the "middle of goddamn nowhere." Barstow's isolated location and endless expanses of desert ensured that Brent's early life would be boring, which it most definitely was. Boredom caused Brent to frequently stir up trouble in an attempt to break the monotony of desert life. He had a hair-trigger temper and was prone to overly dramatic emotional episodes. In 2007, when Brent was fifteen years old, his father received a lucrative offer to transfer to the hospital in the Stonefalcon district of Silverhollow, Michigan. Although not strapped for cash, Tom and Mary agreed that the move would be a good thing for everyone, especially the feisty young Brent.

The move was finalized in the summer of that year and Brent enrolled as an incoming freshman at Harrier's Run High. He adjusted quite well to his new urban environment and quickly found friends in the clique society of high school. His fiery temper cooled and his overall mood began to improve dramatically during his first year in Silverhollow. Through his new friends, he expanded his taste in entertainment, especially in music and film. He made a hobby of writing critiques of movies and music and posting them on his blog - something he continues to this day and hopes to make a web video series out of it.

The rest of Brent's high school years were enjoyable. He always kept a low profile, which kept him out of the sight of bullies. Within his own circle of friends, he became known as the "chill" guy who rarely had problems with anyone else. His laid-back personality made him a decently likable fellow and held the group together in times of strife. When the time came to graduate and enroll in college, the fire-forged group slowly began to drift apart, leaving only a handful left. Some left for other colleges, and one left to join the Marine Corps. The people who remained formed a Skype group where they to this day keep regular contact.

Entering college, Brent had absolutely no idea what to do. He was one of those people who had never put much thought into what they wanted for the future, and that mindset came back to bite him hard. After spending a few days staring at the list of majors that Goldmar University offered, he eventually settled on Computer Science and hoped for the best. Five semesters later, Brent is still wondering if he made the best choice. He promised himself that over this coming summer break, he'd seriously buckle down and investigate career paths. For real this time.

Notes: As previously mentioned, Brent is an aspiring video producer. His ultimate dream is to be a successful Internet critic. As of right now, he only has a cheap video camera and his dazzling sharp wit.

I understand and appreciate that fact that you answered me outright, either way I decided to revise my sheet mostly for the sake of me disliking the original after reading it over a few times.
The revised edition is below, and the sub-plot within is free to use, or just be a mystery that is never resolved.I get that there is some differences in opinion due to living in different areas, but its alright.
<spoiler=Adrian Lang>Name:Adrian (Al) Lang
Age:21
Sex:Male

Appearance:Adrian is an Asian Canadian who stands at 5 feet and 7 inches, with green eyes. His hair is black, short and barely reaches past his ears; cut around them to keep it clear, he keeps his bangs parted to the sides of his face. His physique is stout with muscles visible, preferring to wear simple clothing, baring no marks of a specific brand or symbol outright. He doesn't have any particular reason for this, just that his wardrobe mostly simple designs and patterns, or solid colors.
Depending on the weather Adrian would usually be seen in long shorts and shirt from the mid 40 degrees and up, or thicker clothing when appropriate. He owns a few jackets and business suits passed down from his father, and brother in succession, with the jackets being practical and with pockets, and the suits tailor made but old.

Personality:Adrian is the kind of person who is "cruel to be kind", he"s not cold and distance, but tends to be impatient and easily exasperated with people. Shifting between hesitant optimism, dismal indifference, and everything in between, he may come off as a tad bipolar to those who don't see him frequently. Despite this he genuinely cares for friends and family alike, caring for them like a big brother, though it may be difficult to see a times. He often comes to reflect and understand moments when he acts rash to others, and usually tries to make amends if he doesn't feel his actions were justified.

BiographyBorn in Vancouver as the youngest of a family of 5, Adrian grew up well enough, his father was an Asian Canadian middleman for shipping and manufacturing from Hong Kong to the States and Canada, while his mother was a French/Hispanic Canadian, being taught baking and other culinary skills at the time by family. With an older brother and eldest sister as well, Jean who was 4 years old, and Catherine who was 6. Both of there parents were 2nd generation making them a quarter-French, quarter-Hispanic, and half-Asian Canadians, growing up was filled with a mixture of relatives from 3 different backgrounds, and a great deal of love.
After a fierce argument over living arrangements and job ordeals when he was 12, his parents got a divorce, his father taking Adrian and Jean to New York, while is mother kept Catherine. Strain grew between the family as both got involved in their work, his mother working at her side of the families restaurant business with his sister following in her foot steps, while his father was kept busy with the new location.
More time passed and his sister was doing well in Canada, eventually opening a small cafe, while his brother, tired of baby sitting Adrian for his busy father, moved to Silverhollow as soon as he was 18.
Adrian's time spent in New York initially had been tolerable with the sudden shift thanks to his brother, and without him it generating mixed feelings of being left behind and stuck in New York. While neither his father nor Jean were on speaking terms, he got infrequent letters, hinting at the Jeans involvement with a gang called "The Titans" (Adrian's Height at time 5 feet and 5 inches, his brother 6'1"). These often included small gifts of money, and urging to come visit if he got the chance.
As Adrian reached 18, the rift between his father had grown similar to his brothers state, the difference being that his father wanted to keep him close to home. Having refused any previous questions concerning visiting his brother, Adrian worked hard in school with renewed vigor in his brothers absence, managing to get a small scholarship to Goldmar University and finally the consent to go.
Finally leaving to Silverhollow and getting a nice apartment in Stonefalcon (a gift from his mother vis-a-vis a large amount of money) within biking distance from the University, Adrian studied and worked hard leaning towards becoming a Lawyer and minoring in business. The last letter he received from his brother in reply to his upcoming arrival left him with information for a bank account in his name, and a card to match. Given three years time he has yet to find a hint of his brother, and misgivings towards gang relations and the area it encompasses has made him hesitant to take a more active search.
As 2012 rolled around and news of people with amazing or mind boggling powers emerged, Adrian grew nervous, while his classmates spoke of heroes and villains, with changes to laws and more, he kept thinking that the world was coming to an end, and a smaller part of him thought of what good it could be used for.
Notes:
-His apartment in Stonefalcon is within biking distance of the university, and features the usual for a single person, save for a small metal vault. Reinforced and locked, it contains personal documents, emergency money, and the card from his brother.
-He has a laptop and despite modern day technology, his brother refused to send e-mails or leave an e-mail address/phone number (Adrian believes it was to both anger his father, and because of the contents of the actual letters).
-Adrian's search for his brother has led him to the address of his sent letters, a mailbox rented in his own name, with his reply (containing his apartments address) still inside, the same letter is still in the box, with Adrian paying the rent in case his brother comes and picks it up.
-Speaks English, Passable French, and enough Mandarin/Kantonese that he can get by.

For your review and consideration, comments are welcome.

Again, at present there is no deadline. I'm waiting for two more people to submit their characters. One is on its way, the other I'm not so sure about since its writer is currently without a computer on which to write. Being my co-GM, he may come in as a late entrant. I'll wait and see what happens when the first of the two sheets are up.

So going to after school martial arts classes is a bad thing as far as my character's chances are concerned? Dang.

This post is really just a smattering of my thoughts, presented piece by piece in no real order:

My advice is this: don't try to make your character exceedingly different from those that are already present.
I just realized this: According to the above statement, the best way to get in this RP is to imitate others, rather than make a character that is strikingly different?

Wait a minute, before I posted apologizing for my tardiness in writing a sheet, you said there were three people you were waiting on. Did you kick me out already? D:

CounterAttack, I need these two questions explicitly answered in order for my sheets to be created:
1. Upon receiving superpowers, would you allow it if my completely normal character mentally snapped and started killing people?
2. Are our characters allowed to be older than 30 and be employed at the university, rather than being a student there?

I might try to get three sheets submitted for this game, but it all depends on how much time I have, as it recently been taking me a while to get a sheet out the door.

Playing as a Lesbian Pirate from Outer Space sounds pretty neat... why would you be punished for doing that?
It's not "normal" enough, but I'm not sure about that. I'll just submit a sheet and find out what happens.
