Name: Nina Rhee
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Appearance: As far as first impressions go, Millie rarely makes much of an impact. Standing at roughly 5'7" and weighing in at a mere 140 lbs, she doesn't exactly strike an imposing figure. A head of black hair hangs down to her shoulders, typically tied back in a ponytail, and her bangs are normally swept to the left, just enough so that they don't get in her eyes. A pair of somewhat smudged glasses covers her hazel eyes, to correct her slight nearsightedness.
Though Nina isn't exactly a looker, she freshens up quite nicely when she remembers to put on her make-up in the morning. Smooth, mostly unblemished features, a pair of unpierced ears, and a smile full of straight and shiny teeth (two years of braces, and they had better be straight) combine to give her a pleasant, if not exactly head-turning appearance.
Going a little lower, Nina's body is pretty much exactly what'd you expect for a university student. Her chest might be a bit on the unimpressive side, but at least her stomach is reasonably flat; she learned her lesson about exercise and eating right after encountering the dreaded Freshman Fifteen. Her arms and legs, while lacking any substantial muscle, are smooth and toned, and her fingers are plenty long and dexterous. Even if her accent wasn't a dead giveaway, Nina's light brown skin hint at her Korean ancestry.
As evidenced by her choice in clothing, Nina has a very limited fashion sense. Brand names and trends fly right over her head; so long as she likes the color and style, odds are she'll wear whatever garment she's looking at, though she certainly has a preference for your run-of-the-mill blouses and pants.
Personality: If asked to describe herself in a single word, Nina would probably go with "Chipper". If given another word, she might choose "Awkwardly chipper".
Having lived in a somewhat strict household for most of her life, Nina is still trying to adjust to the freedom that comes with life on a college campus. She's free to study, eat, and sleep whenever she chooses, Can choose to skip a class if she's feeling a bit under the weather or particularly mischievousness, and, within reason, can do whatever she wants to! It's just a lot to take in, and even after two years at Goldmar University she still hasn't quite gotten the hang of it.
As such, though she does her best to just come across as friendly, Nina often strikes people as a little too cheery or happy, leaving them nonplussed if not downright annoyed. Other than a few of her neighbors in the dorms, Nina's been unable to make any close friends, though she does have a decent number of acquaintances.
Biography: Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, Nina was an only child, the daughter of a pair of South Korean immigrants. From an early age, she was raised by her parents to be an exemplary student; she was sent to a private school, and spent a good portion of her time engrossed in study. While she was on pleasant enough terms with most of the other children in her class, it wouldn't be exactly correct to say that she had friends. Sure, she could talk to her classmates about books and homework, but experiences like play-dates and simply hanging out were few and far between.
Though she didn't care for this type of lifestyle, Nina adapted to it fairly well. Subjects like English and history posed almost no challenge to her, and she outright excelled when it came to mathematics. She did so well, in fact, that she managed to enter high school a year early, skipping the eight grade entirely.
Nina had always known that she was going to go to college; there was no doubt about that. But when junior year finally rolled around, she had to decide where exactly she wanted to go. Though she certainly did well in all of her subjects, none of them really spoke to her or motivated her. She didn't know what she wanted to study, or where to go to study it.
Finally, after digging through piles of brochures for hours on end, Nina stumbled across an ad for Goldmar University. It wasn't exactly Harvard or M.I.T., but the school somehow latched onto Nina's mind and refused to let go. Maybe it was the pristine campus, maybe it was the sizable scholarship they offered for someone with her test scores, maybe it was the numerous programs and majors the school boasted, or maybe it was the ten hours distance from her parent's house, but G.U. stuck with Nina all through junior and senior year. It was among the handful of universities she actually applied to, and the only one whose response she eagerly awaited.
Long story short, she got in.
When she finally arrived on campus, fall semester of 2011, however, Nina nearly fell head over heels trying to adjust to everything. She got a pretty solid grasp on the coursework early on, but clubs, the cafeteria, campus events, and all that jazz? It took her almost a month to finally figure out when dinner started on the weekends!
Still, given enough time anyone can adapt to anything. By the time her sophomore year finally rolled around, Nina had finally gotten a hang on life at G.U. In addition to keeping up with homework and projects, she had decided on her major (Computer Science), taken on a job at the school library (Mostly just sorting and shelving books. Turns out that the Dewy Decimal systems actually makes sense if you take the time to memorize it) and started attending the campus' juggling club's weekly meetings. All of the extra activity meant that her grades suffered a bit, but Nina was happy with her lot in life.
Cue the fall semester, 2012. Reports of people with impossible powers began filling the newspapers, internet, and TV stations; soon they had become the nation's hottest topic, overshadowing even the upcoming election. However, while most people seemed to be enraptured with these "super heroes", Nina was unable to muster any response stronger than some slight curiosity. Sure, these extraordinary people were interesting, but what impact did they have on her or her life? They were a phenomena that she would likely never see, so why should she bother worrying about them?
Notes:
-Nina lives in the campus dorms. She has not become involved in Greek Life, nor does she intend to.
-Though she's perfectly fluent in English, Nina speaks with a noticeable accent.
-Thanks to a few tutors with ties to the juggling club, Nina's learned how to juggle balls and clubs, though she's currently limited to only three of a given object.
