Games are probably the greatest media in the world:
They're engaging, immersive, fun, time consuming and, despite the stereotype, social. There's not one single male I know who doesn't have a form of games console, and so there's never a dull conversation to be had, especially with all the new titles waiting to burn another huge hole in my already charred wallet.
The question is, which game to get first? Do I get an FPS? A RPG? SIM? Racing? Action? Adventure? Platformer =/? It all depends on the mood you're in; so why not have BOTH? For too long have we dillydallied about with which disk to put in and play, we a messiah, a game to END ALL GAMES.
I'm one for trading in games before I've even finished them, totally paranoid that they'll go down in price and be totally worthless in about 10 seconds. Unfortunately, I'm also one for buying two god awful games instead of saving up and getting one I actually want. It's due to these mentalities that I've managed to play a fair few games in my time, and I know what makes a good game. In fact, we all do. It's very rare that we see a game hit top of the charts unless it's something special. So why do games designers not take any notice? Why, instead of ripping off games that sell well, or completely ignore what the public is screaming out for, do they not invent the best game ever? We all know what would be in it:
GTA's general mess-around-sandbox-ness
Saint's Row II's minigames and multiplayer, no, in fact
WORLD OF WARCRAFT MULTIPLAYER!
Fable II's and ability to hump/marry everything that moves
SIMS character development
Assassin's Creed's freedom of movement
Farcry's attention to detail
Red faction's destruction
something to do with Heavy Rain
Arkham Asylum's combat..
(Am I missing anything?)
I KNOW that this game sounds like a Frankinstein game and it would probably never have a plausible story to patch it together, but surely you can all SEE where I'm coming from??
We know what we like in a game, surely they can just start to have a general format (without making every game exactly the same, obviously)
and I'm fully aware that it would probably only be feasible on a PS3, or maybe even a PC, but come ON! I know it can be done, GTA IV with a bit more would be close enough!
Am I right, or just dreaming of something to perfect to ever be? </3
what do you think we could add to make the perfect game????
oh, and of course, the leaves wouldn't be pixelated
