I would go with something that would seem small to those who don't think hard on it but is actually quite deep. The greatest sin ever would be Theft.

This probably covers alot of other issues already raised. Murdering being the theft of a live and of a loved one or some such person. Rape being the theft of dignity as well as other things. I bet most people can make the rest of the connections between theft and other crimes.

(and points for anyone who knows where I got that line of thinking)
(That is theft being worst thing line of thinking)

Christianity is the greatest sin by far. do you know how many people has been killed by Christian twats? thousands! the crusades alone is responsible for atleast 10000 deaths caused by christians. and im really meaning at least, because then we have the "witches", the "heretics" and so on...
Funny that you single out Christianity. I mean, look at all the other religions that have driven man to kill, rape, segregate, and destroy. Judaism is chock full of it, Hinduism contains possibly the oldest form of religious segregation, and anyone who watches the news will see what horrors Islam hath wrought. Even "peaceful" religions, like Buddhism, have sponsored the killing of innocents. And yes, even atheists, those without religion at all, have gone and killed others because they differ in opinion to them. It's not the religion, it's religious fanaticism that kills. People warp religions to suit their vile needs instead of changing themselves to be the peaceful, kind, prosperous creatures that their faith or ethics dictate.

In my mind, rape and murder are two of the greatest sins, but torture is also one. When I say torture too, I don't just mean the physical kind, but also mental or emotional. This extends from sadism and keeping people from what they need to things such as harassment and segregation. Segregation is notable in my mind, because I find it abhorrent that one would be treated negatively because of who they are personally or genetically.

murder and rape are among the highest sins, but to me,getting someone else to rape or murder or commit another such act for you is even worse than doing it yourself, and is the greatest sin.

Murder.
Rape is horrible, but there's a chance for recovery. Same goes for torture.
Killing in rage =/= murder (like you just witnessed your family being murdered), while killing in revenge = murder in my opinion, by the way.
I don't like vigilantism, it leads to... very bad things.

Thievery, as all other sins sprout from it. When you lie, you steal the truth. When you rape, you rob someone of their innocence. When you kill, you steal life.

Well according to the Bible, working on Sunday is a sin punishable by death.

The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: 'Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever. It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Yes, keep the Sabbath day, for it is holy. Anyone who desecrates it must die; anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community. Work six days only, but the seventh day must be a day of total rest. I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death.' (Exodus 31:12-15 NLT)

Religion is the greatest sin. Keeps humanity ignorant and undoes the knowledge gained by men of science.

In a Judeo-Christian sense (I'm not quite sure where you are coming from), teaching children to do evil is about the worst.

The sin of pride I've thought was always the worst because its one people generally do not recuperate from.

At least with murder or the like you may feel remorse but with pride most likely you never will.

Good point, really most religions in the world are to blame. Or rather, the religious mindset. Though I would correct you in saying that unlike religions, there's never been a mass killing in the name of atheism, though there have been atheist mass murderers who did it for other reasons. I'm not an atheist but there's a subtle difference there that should be pointed out for accuracy's sake.

If anything I wouldn't say it's fanatacism that kills but rather ignorance of others and a lack of self-criticism. I'll hesitantly say that tolerance is something that should be encouraged, but keep in mind that's a two way street and if tolerance is given without it coming back it just turns into appeasement.

Truly it is my idea that the only way everyone could get along would be if there was only one religion or no religions, though there would still be wars there would be a hell of alot less in general. They would be mild border disputes or resource depletion, much more minor then what would happen from tons of diffrent religous groups.

I'ma go with pedophilia.

Usually I'd come up with some carefully thought out explanation, but this one is pure gut. I think rapists in general are scum, but I'm usually the first one to champion due process and rehabilitation. I think every man deserves his day in court, and that jail is an appropriate punishment for crimes, and a man who has served his time deserves a second chance.

On the other hand, I genuinely believe that pedophiles should be fed through a meat grinder. They are the only criminals who I could totally justify killing in cold blood and not lose a single second's sleep over it.
