Dragon Age kicked my ass even on Normal difficulty man.

It's tough. Especially if you've never done that style of game before.

There were even parts on easy where I died a few times...
How? Man, everyone says this game is really hard, I left it cause it was too easy. Hell, the only time I died was when I was fighting the dragon, then my group killed him shortly after.
Yes, yes, you're awesome, you haz the mad skillz and all that...

We're not here to brag, see.

Many people found Dragon Age tough going, even on easy mode.
i played normal mode and i died constantly. though best game ever.

Just completed (like, within this minute) the LEGEND difficulty challenge on Smackdown 2010. The only diffrence was that they reversed a bit more than usual. I didnt feel the diffrence at all :\ Im just keeping the game on legend now.

mirrors edge didnt do it right, though i do love the game. i like how you had to unlock the highest difficulty, but even then it wasnt much more difficult.
No, but the whole ideal of the story mode was 'Don't fight, run, run, run'.
The time trials and speed runs were hard as hell though.

I had found Call of duty 5 was insane on veteran cause when you are behind cover you will get the suprise of about six grenades landing beside you and as you run out you get shot and killed, but I found Call of duty MW2 to be quite easy on veteran

Viewtiful Joe and F-Zero GX. Really, really hard but not unfairly so, and I felt so triumphal when I managed them :)
Ah, g.x, I do miss thee... My greatest sense of achievement in a game was unlocking all the arcade racers; story mode was absolutely fucking impossible on the hardest difficulty but damn it was satisfying.

Also, the grand prix on master is the only racing game I've seen that doesn't resort to rubberband A.i., they beat you fair and square. You can target the leader specifically and kill him to get more of a chance at winning. Hell, just straight racing, placing consistently 4th/5th will probably win you the competition, there's no mario kart destined winners here.

It's a monster to beat, because it's insanely fast, but the grand prix is always fair I found, I never got pissed at the computer, I knew if I lost it was because I messed up. I can put up with any insane difficulty when it's like that!
That's excatly it! GX was hard but totally fair. If you lost it was because that time you weren't good enough. Keep going and going. Yeah unlocking all tracks and AX ships is one of my proudest gaming things...

The original Doom's Nightmare mode was exactly that. Enemies and their projectiles were twice as fast, did more damage, and on top of all that, they respawned. You got twice the ammo from ammo packs, but you needed about three times as much.

Grr... PC Oblivion set to hardest is impossible, frankly. I tried it for five seconds and died and moved it down because I wanted to actually enjoy the freakin' game.

God of War and Devil may cry have some really satisfying difficult levels though. If you kickass in them, you feel at or above being God.

I've always found gears of war on insane to be incredibly easy.
Do you include the sequel in that?

There were some savagely tough difficulty spikes in Gears 2.

Defending jack while he opened the container pod was mad hard, and the section where you must use the turrets to defend the Satt Comm from incoming reavers was utterly broken.

A game that got it ever so majorly wrong would be GodHand. I love it to bits but on Hard mode you may as well pack your controller in and enjoy the show as enemies hand your ass to you on a silver platter. I understand that GodHand was partly supposed to be like this, but come on. I only ever got to the second stage.

I also think any game that on harder or even normal difficulties punishes you for trying something fun is fundamentally flawed. And this includes too many games today, with developers increasing the difficulty in order to appeal to the hardcore gamers and lengthen game time. I don't have fun taking potshots from cover until someone dies, I want to be able to play how I like. Sometimes that means rushing the enemy, but in games like Gears of War, especially on the higher difficulties doing something like that is suicide.

The game that got it right in my oppinion is Rainbow Six Las Vegas 2 because on a higher difficulty the reward is greater and you can still prevail if you work together. Army of Two the 40th day was a fair challenge on the hardest difficulty.

Oh also special mention in the area of ridiculous difficulty, the new Turok.

I only play games on the hardest setting available and if I have time I will play them again on the unlocked harder setting. I have beaten all the Devil may cry games on the hardest settings (even number 3). I find that playing a game on the hardest setting is for the more patient people. It requires alot of blocking and dodging and then one hit every few minutes. If you want to just swing your sword around wildly then you should avoid hard mode. My favorite game to play on the hardest mode is tekken because I can beat arcade in only five to 10 minutes with any character. Halo was also fun on hard (found the final boss in number 2 way too easy though, I killed him in a minute flat, what a let down).

GodHand was one of my favorite games to play on hard mode. It all depends on how you customize your fighting techniques.

I'm not sure I'm too proud of this but Ninja gaiden sigma and 2 on PS3. Took me ages but seriously that shit is insane. Also Uncharted's crushing was 'crushing' but I managed to beat 'em within 3 days.

It's also mind numbingly boring, whacking the same enemy 6000 times waiting for them to bloody die.

The Darkness pretty much nailed it. The beginning of the game without powers is pretty rough but once you get the goods, it really makes you appreciate them.

Only other games I can say that scaled really well in diffculty from easy-hardest would be Brothers in Arms & Doom3, for similar reasons.

Normal was so damn hard. But the good thing was that the game felt so rewarding when you did something. Like when I killed a dragon (the spoilerific one). At that moment I was so incredibly proud of myself that I had to hug me. I deserved it!
I presume you mean
Flemeth
, yeah, that battle was a *****. Literally...

I really want to play it again now though. I got a fair bit through in on Normal after beating it on Easy.

But than ME2 came out...
why on earth did I click that?

I'm the middle of my first playthrough..

hrmmm... I can just forget it.

yeah, that's right.

I found Uncharted 2 to be quite good on the hardest setting. But then, this is me we're talking about so that probably means it was far to easy for most people.
