Honestly... I never bother to even attempt to try the hardest difficulty in games. Nearly every one i have tried just gets me so frustrarted..

So i think fuck it, put it on easy and have fun.
this.
Whenever I play COD, I slap it on recruit because it's just so much fun..

Dead space's hard mode... I don't know whether it was spot on or not. It wasn't frustrating, but the constant need for ammo and health packs actually made me fear the space zombies. I then learned that horror games that are actually scary aren't fun.

For action or roleplaying games, I usually put it on easy (or occasionally medium) and enjoy the game's story and whatnot. I generally use the hardest difficulty for horror games (and most recently the Marine campaign on AvP) simply to help the atmosphere of 'Oh fuck oh God (Oh man, oh God, oh man, OH GOD OH MAN)'. Makes for a much more entertaining and immersive experience.

Cod WAW got veteran completely wrong. All the enemies had about 3 grenades each that they would all chuck at once. SO ANNOYING

Fire Emblem gets it right.

On another note, IF you finish Ninja Gaiden on Xbox....you unlock hard mode? Whaaaaa? Wasn't it hard enough?

A game that got it ever so majorly wrong would be GodHand. I love it to bits but on Hard mode you may as well pack your controller in and enjoy the show as enemies hand your ass to you on a silver platter. I understand that GodHand was partly supposed to be like this, but come on. I only ever got to the second stage.
GodHand was one of my favorite games to play on hard mode. It all depends on how you customize your fighting techniques.
But this again proves my point. You mentioned in your earlier post blocking alot and just chipping away a little bit of health every now and then. That's just not fun for me. If it was a game based on reversals and you had to guard actively to reveal the enemies weakpoint and strike at the right moment I would find that entertaining. But if it's just a pattern to follow over and over, where's the fun in that?

Devil may Cry with Dante Must Die mode was a blast. Also, I've just finished Mass Effect 2 on Insanity which was pretty fun too.

I feel Bioshock 2's 'Hard' setting was far too forgiving.

During Lamb's final assult, all I did was set some traps, summon 2 elite bots (security command 3) and Elenor and then hide with the Natural Camo tonic. I didn't take a fleck of damage during what is effectively the final boss fight.

I was quiet disappointed acctually - I wanted a challenge!

Almost no game has a fair hardest difficulty.
Those tend to come with very cheap instant deaths etc.

So I can't really remember one.
In the olden days games had just 1 setting and it was generally more fair.
You still needed tons of practice and stamina, but almost never as broken as some current titles feel.

I have to agree with you, a lot of games like devil may cry and godhand on hard do not require any extra skill only patience. I love JRPGs that have hard mode, because what they do is make the opponents hp higher and make them faster. Those games require stratagie because there is no dodge or block, only making every move count. I think the reason why I started playing in hard was because I was annoyed at my friends always playing on super easy.

MW2 was a bit too easy, COD5 was an absolute pisstake with all the grenades and narrow levels, but I think COD4 got it right as it was challenging and extremely satisfying when you finally finish it.

i got all the way 2 "no fighting in the war room" and just cant beat it on veteran no matter what i try everytime i try it i come away a broken and weeping man lol

Original Devil May Cry 3
Dante Must Die Difficulty. So many hours of screaming at the T.V
The game alone was hard since the Japenese Hard difficulty was American Normal
Now imagine how hard that was!

Fallout 3 got it wrong. The hardest difficulty isnt hard just takes more time. But games that got it right? ermm.......... would anyone else agree with the bots on Unreal tournament 3 on god-like. Makes you feel so proud after an hour of fighting to see your kill to death at 1 for 1.
