"If we went up to a second floor, we could board up the doors and have people covering the stairs with guns." John paused. "Of course we don't want to get trapped inside anywhere with monsters. That means we need to be able to keep them out, but not trap us inside. We don't know much about them, if any can fly, we could be on a fifth floor and not be safe from them." John looked around, gripping his shotgun. "Either way, we should stay quiet until we find shelter, we don't know what is out there and we could be attacked at any time." John continued scanning the surroundings, looking for anything out of the ordinary, ready to fire at any time if something attacked.

Patricka stepped up to the wooden port. It was old and the door was rugged and she hurried back down the small stairs to wait for the people. Being in the middle of the group made her feel alot safer.

"Maybe it will be one hell of a convenient housing and it will have a basement of some kind. We could barricade it and use it as a second-option"

"And die down there?" Chloe mutters.

"We should just hold up in one room, or a hallway or something. Somewhere with exits just in case. A second floor would be useful as a fallback...not as a primary," she shrugs, pushing the door open gently.

The darkness melds between the outside and the interior of the farm house, but no sounds emit from within it.

"And I don't feel safe with just a knife in there..."

"Yeah, well..." Laz couldn't think up a witty response--after all, he was in the same boat, after all he supposed, if push came to shove, he could things with the tripod--so he let the sentence, incomplete, in midair, in the hope that maybe someone else would pick it up at a later date.
He looked over Chloe's shoulder into the darkness. He doubted very much this place out in the middle of nowhere had any kind kind of system of working lightbulbs short of the odd lamp here or there. He snapped a quick picture of the interior, the bright flash briefly illuminating the room beyond the door. The exposure was like to suck, but at least it let them see inside, if only for an instant.

The monster snarled, angry that it had missed it's chance to attack the small group of stragglers. It paced around the barn, hoping to try and capture one of the survivors alone. If it fought against the entire group, even without any weapons, it would most likely lose. And it didn't want any other monsters to come and take it's prey.

"I don't think I've seen any one of the suckers fly yet," Emma commented. "And if it's going to break through the door, I want to have enough time to hear it and react. I think we should head up to the second floor. I saw some old farm equipment during the flash. If we can break it down lower and find something to attach it to the window frames with, they'll protect us just in case I'm wrong and those buggers have sprouted wings."

Patricka moved up the stairs carefully and looked around suspicously.
"I will have a look upstairs and see if there is something of use here"

However, upon arriving to the second floor she noticed that it was mostly broken and ragged. It had been left in a hurry and clearly some chaos going on.

I'm running low on medical supplies, perhaps I can improvise
Patricka walked up to a nearby window and ripped some white curtains off the window to use for bandages.

Afterward she moved toward the bathroom, hoping to find some sort of a water supply and maybe some medicine.

Sorry, I'm starting to get confused. Are we at a barn or a farmhouse? That seems like it might be an important detail going forward.
Laz cautiously followed the others into the seemingly ransacked farmhouse. Aiming the camera erractically, like a fat, blockish gun that shot light, seeking out anything that might need more illumination then it was already currently experiencing. But nothing immediately set off his danger senses, and, subconciously, he began to relax a little. There was no immediate danger, and seemingly nothing lurking in the darkness around them, leaving with nothing but an empty farmhouse and a lot of quiet time. Of course, he was a little at a loss of what to be doing now that they were there. "Well, we're here," he said, "now what?"

We're in the farm house now, the beast is prowling the barn. After all it would be a tad obvious if it was walking past the windows in front of us every so often, sorry for the confusion.

"I vote we hold here for tonight...it will be easier to move in the daylight hours, we'll be on more even terms at least with the beasts," Chloe mutters fishing her way through the house for a lantern or some light source.

"Barring the doors would be useless, but it'll be a peace of mind thing, no?"

"Even if it only gives us an extra second, that's extra time to get ready for an attack." John responded. "If any of us sleep, we'll have to organize shifts so we don't get caught off guard." John checked his shotgun, making sure that it was still in working order. Making sure he still had his extra shells, he nodded. If any monster attacked tonight, he would be ready for it.

"I think the first thing we should do is to find a defensible position in this house and start reinforcing it in case of an attack."

Patricka had managed to fill a small canteen with water and had stored her newfound supplies on her person.

Upon descending the stairs she nodded to John as he explained his thoughts on the matter.
"I agree. I have found some supplies but there was no medicine. I will check the kitchen for supplies. I recommend that we barricade the kitchen if there arent too many windows, revaulting around the counters should give us a slight advantage if the monsters are big. However, if they are fast then I think the upper floor is best because manouvering the stairs is tricky and they make easy targets in a narrow lane"

Patricka felt she had expressed enough and walked into the kitchen.

While the others found their own various ways of being useful, rummaging through the various rooms of the farmhouse for whatever could be salvaged for whatever utility it might posess, Laz set about discovering what furniture might be lying about and decided if it was better for sleeping on on putting in front of doors. He had found an ugly couch, boldly displaying what looked to be a floral print in the negligible light of the building. He was planning on putting it in the 'sleep on' category until he sat on it. It was hard and lumpy and generally unpleasant everywhere that it wasn't excessively soft whatever the adjective form of being devoured was. It felt like falling through a cloud and landing on a rock. He hopped up as soon as he fell into the furniture trap and decided he'd found something to shove in front of doors.

Sorry about the delay, I've had like 6 versions of this post, and I've not liked any of them. To be clear, in this post, when it goes into bold text, she is having a hallucination. What she does is real, what she sees, is not.

Picking through the cupboards for a lantern or other light source, Chloe stumbles upon exactly what she's after, a small lantern that wasn't smashed or taken with the previous owners.

As she turns back to announce what she has found, she finds a pair of large, yellow eyes staring at her through the darkness.

"Oh...God," she whimpers at the eyes, but they continue to stare at her. After 10 seconds of staring, the eyes blink and move away, as if the owner of them is moving through the house.

The scream that rips from Chloe's throat is terrified and horrible, the 'beast' never turned back.

"I have to leave, I need to escape," she pants before bursting for the back door, running straight past Patricka in a daze, not even noticing her, in order to escape. She notices the eyes watching her from upstairs as she affords a final glance at the house.

She moves towards the barn, seeking refuge from the 'beast' within the house.

Patricka runs after Chloe as she dashes toward the door.
"What? what? where is it?.... Chloe, NO!"
Pat runs out of the house after her and manages to grab her arm. She makes sure to have the hold firm and pinch her, trying to get some sence into her.

But as she looks around she notices they're both out of the house. Out in the open. Two girls and they had no protection, whatsoever.
"Come! Surely the fear is getting to you! Come with me inside..."
Pat's eyes stared straight into Chloe's as she tries to pierce through to her sences.

Laz dropped the couch he was attempting to shunt toward the door when he heard the girls screaming. He jumped over the couch, abandoning and his camera and pulling the razor from his pocket, and dashed into the kitchen in time to see Patricka chase Chloe straight out the door. "Hey! What are you doing!?" He didn't know much about this whole mutant survival thing, but he was fairly confident that running out into the night screaming was faux pas. Unfortunately, he couldn't just let them run out into the night screaming, leaving him with the duty of running after them, and so he ran out into the darkness chasing after them.

Emma heard the screaming from upstairs. She had been looking for loose boards that could have been used to block the windows when the shouts told her there were other priorities. As she arrived downstairs, she saw the teenager running outside.

"Oh for Christ's sake," she muttered to herself. She picked up her shotgun and went out after him. The idiot was going to get himself killed.

Sorry for not posting. Craps been happening and I've been busy for work. I'll post more often once TTT leaves for holiday.

All the commotion from the barn certainly grabbed the monsters' attention. It snaked around and followed behind a screaming Chole, but swiftly moved away once Patricka arrived. It growled under it's breath, angry because it had missed its chance.

No matter, it could and would have time later on. Besides, its prey weren't going anywhere.

For once, Laz was glad to have spent all those days selling newspapers on the street corner. He was quickly gaining ground on the two women, and he was only slightly tired from the exertion--he had plenty of run left in him. "Come on you two, hold up!" He called after them, almost on Pat's heels as he did. "Pat...Pat! What's going on? Why are we running?"

Patricka started pulling Chloe by the arm.
"Chloe said she saw something and then took off running outside!"
The three grouped up as they made their way toward the entrance of the house.
"So... what the hell did you see in the house, anyway??"

Emma met the group as they corralled Chloe and brought her back to the house. Huh. So I guess the idiot had a reason to go out there. I owe him a mental apology.

"What the heck happened? Are you trying to let mutants into the house? It's a good thing I shut the door after I left. Who knows what could have gotten inside!"
