I too was thinking SOPA was defeated, but I reread the article and it has simply been indefinitely shelved. Even if SOPA is dead in the water, this is still a good idea because really, you absolutely know without question, without hesitation, you KNOW that the concept will return.

So having this blackout is a good thing. The public needs to wake up and see what is actually happening in their lives. We have lingered far too long allowing the wrong people to have entirely too much power and control over our lives all in exchange for the perceptions of peace and prosperity. Just so long as we can blow things up in the summer while we get drunk and BBQ, and we can gorge ourselves into gluttony induced comas in the fall we as a nation of people are entirely too complacent and willingly let the power elite take things from us that many people long before us literally died to ensure we would have today.

If we are not on the cusp of a revolution, then it is long long overdue. Sometimes the only way you can wake people up from a complacent slumber is to forcibly take away what has you so hypnotized. So this idea is good, and needed, and even if SOPA is shelved (As in we put it on the back burner so we can bring it back 6 months from now as a rider in another bill that you wont hear about) It will eventually resurface. This action is certainly needed to not only make a wider group of people understand what is actually happening, but hopefully keep them vigilant enough to be better prepared for when it does come back.

I'll either be on here or skype. Although Xbox does sound like a good option too.

I do support the blackouts though, so I won't be complaining. =P

I just started a new game of X-COM: UFO Defense, so I'll probably do more of that tomorrow. Either that or I'll start a new character in Skyrim (I've been wanting to try out a mage build for some time now).

Sopa was "shelved" for about a day, it's already back.

Stop Online Piracy Act Markup to Resume in February

Washington, D.C. - House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) today said that he expects the Committee to continue its markup of the Stop Online Piracy Act in February.

Chairman Smith: "To enact legislation that protects consumers, businesses and jobs from foreign thieves who steal America's intellectual property, we will continue to bring together industry representatives and Members to find ways to combat online piracy.

"Due to the Republican and Democratic retreats taking place over the next two weeks, markup of the Stop Online Piracy Act is expected to resume in February.

"I am committed to continuing to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to send a bipartisan bill to the White House that saves American jobs and protects intellectual property."

Reddit, Wikipedia and that Cheezburger thing are going offline. While I understand that it's a great way to raise awareness, I don't think Wikipedia as a site should be getting involved in any politics whatsoever - even those relating to corrupt politicians and Internet censorship. Wikipedia should be utterly apolitical, whatever Jimmy Wales does as an individual.

Yeah, SOPA's been stopped, although it might very well return later in a different form. PIPA is still up to pass though.

I do feel that people are getting a little off track though. Stopping piracy is a perfectly legitimate aim, even if legislation like this will probably do very little, but people seemed determined to stop any anti-piracy legislation, in any form. While stopping SOPA is good, the nature of the remarks of many people against it are starting to really irritate me.

Anyone care for a round of singing?
Indeed! Come around everyone, lets sing songs from The Hobbit so I can feel like Gandalf! Then afterwards we chase an internet dragon in the dark. :D

I'd like to sing The Sovngarde Song [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/miracle-of-sound/5117-Sovngarde-Song-Skyrim].

Great timing!, I'm sick and I'm planning on dedicating my entire day playing Skyrim :)

All I know is Wiki is going off-line for a bit and people like Twitter think it's dumb?

Who else is joining in? And I also thought SOPA got binned? *very behind*
From what I've heard, Wikipedia, Reddit, and possibly Google will be going dark for the day.

Pretty sure you can't. YouTube isn't a Web host where you can just hard-edit your homepage to contain whatever you want.

Sucks that YouTube and Newgrounds aren't just straight-up joining the blackout. Cowards, the bloody lot of 'em!

Actually, Newgrounds is, but only the Frontpage is being blocked: You can still get to individual pages and what not.
