I too was thinking SOPA was defeated, but I reread the article and it has simply been indefinitely shelved. Even if SOPA is dead in the water, this is still a good idea because really, you absolutely know without question, without hesitation, you KNOW that the concept will return.
So having this blackout is a good thing. The public needs to wake up and see what is actually happening in their lives. We have lingered far too long allowing the wrong people to have entirely too much power and control over our lives all in exchange for the perceptions of peace and prosperity. Just so long as we can blow things up in the summer while we get drunk and BBQ, and we can gorge ourselves into gluttony induced comas in the fall we as a nation of people are entirely too complacent and willingly let the power elite take things from us that many people long before us literally died to ensure we would have today.
If we are not on the cusp of a revolution, then it is long long overdue. Sometimes the only way you can wake people up from a complacent slumber is to forcibly take away what has you so hypnotized. So this idea is good, and needed, and even if SOPA is shelved (As in we put it on the back burner so we can bring it back 6 months from now as a rider in another bill that you wont hear about) It will eventually resurface. This action is certainly needed to not only make a wider group of people understand what is actually happening, but hopefully keep them vigilant enough to be better prepared for when it does come back.
