I...what?! You were the one who held him up as a negative image to show that all bronies are mentally disturbed basement-dwelling manchildren! And then as soon as we point out that you're steryotyping ad that not all bronies are like that, you do a complete 180 and say he was brave for standing up for the brony community and we should be ashamed for turning our backs on him! And then you go right back to calling him proof that we're all mental?! What...the...crap?! If you want to troll us, fine, but could you at least be consistent? Is Luke someone you think our community should all rally around, or is he a creepy obsessive fan that any self respecting person would distance themselves from? Which is it? Make up your mind!
Look, we don't like starting flamewars. We're not actually trying to force our show on everybody on the internet. But we will stick up for our hobbies when someone attacks them. It's the haters that keep starting up all the "WTF is up with MLP? I never watched it but it sucks! Why do people like it? Those people are stupid!" threads.
Honestly, poor old Luke is both. Sure the guy reeks of being creepy and I wouldn't be surprised a bit if you told me he had a rape dungeon and a collection of human skin. Hell, I'd be shocked if you told me he didn't have those things quite honestly. However, despite all that he still went and stuck his neck out for the lot of you.
Now let's be painfully honest, public perception of grown men who not only watch, but gather online to discuss a show aimed at preteen girls is probably just a small step above the public perception of the fellas that have windowless vans and hang out around elementary schools with puppies and free candy. Yet Luke still went on record doing his best to make you guys seem just a little less creepy.
Sure he's about as far from an ideal candidate as you could want for the face of your little community but at least he tried. He did his damndest to stick up for you guys and attempt to explain what bronies were all about. I'm not saying he came off well or even had any luck making you seem less creepy but he did try.
There is no shortage of people that can line up and take pot shot after pot shot at that poor bastard but any member of the brony community I would expect to be the last type of person to do so. People in glass houses and all. I mean come on, you fellas are grown men that group together to discuss how much you just love and adore a little girls' show. You should be on your hands and knees thanking whatever god(s) you believe in that there is anyone even sticking up for you at all. Because let's be honest again, if the public had their way you fellas would probably be registering with the state and not allowed within a few thousand feet of a school.
Alright, look. I am a well-adjusted college student with my head on straight and a strong sense of right and wrong. I am a Christian who believes in God, but I don't force my religion on other people. I have a nice circle of friends and a supporting family, I've become quite self-sufficient and independent in the last few years, I know what career I want to pursue, and I have no criminal record online or off. I am as far as I could be from a creepy basement-dweller.
I also happen to like MLP: FIM. I started watching it just to see what all the fuss was about, and I got hooked. Why? The characters are well developed, the stories are well written, the jokes are actually funny, the animation is great, it actually gets pretty epic at times, and it's an all around high-quality show. I am not a sex offender just because I like a show that you see as "too girly."
The creators specifically said they wanted to make a girls show that doesn't suck, and that boys and parents could actually enjoy without wanting to kill themselves. I'd say the succeeded, and I agree. Just because a show is for girls doesn't give them the right to not even try. I think that making high-quality show anyone can enjoy, no matter what the target demographic, is something to be encouraged in the TV industry. I think that's how most bronies feel. This isn't some weird fetish for us, we just like a good show. Our excitement stems from the novelty of having a girls show that's actually good.
But you don't see any of that, do you? You can't look past your own preconceived notions to see something genuinely good. And you have to constantly belittle those of us who can, because it confuses you. Instead of opening your mind to new ideas, you're just instinctively lashing out at what you don't understand. And you try to justify it to yourself by repeating over and over again that any NORMAL person would CLEARLY be on your side and see us for the FREAKS we are.
I tend to like a very wide variety of things. I like everything from Shakespeare to Daft Punk. Everything from Watchmen to MLP. And you know what? I find life so much more fulfilling that way. You...I feel sorry for narrow-minded people like you. I really do. People like you miss out on so many wonderful things in the world because they're unable to step out of their comfort zone and try new things. They're afraid of being judged, so instead they pass judgement on others like you've been doing. I would hate to live like that.
Before I go, I would like to point out that you were the one making the cheap potshots about Luke being a creepy basement-dweller, not us. I do not think badly of Luke, though, nor do I think badly of you. I've heard that you can be a much more civilized poster in other topics, and it's only ponies that make you feel compelled to troll. I honestly hope you and I can have a more pleasant intellectual debate sometime in the future. But for now, know that I harbor no hard feelings toward you in the way you seem to harbor hard feelings toward bronies. I've said it before, and I'll say it again:
