I love the internet. Why? Because I feel it's going to lead us all into the promised land. Okay, I kid, but it is the widest and most easiest accessible information available.
Before, we only had governments telling us who was good and who was evil, in the time of the Vietnam war people got to see the horrors that their government was committing within another country. The US toughened themselves up during the cold war with Black Lists and anti-commie propaganda to silence people. Destroy the media that the people were absorbing this anti-American way of life from.
Then the internet was made. Today it is so much harder to start any war when you can talk to and gain information from the news of the other country. The protests against the Iraq War were the biggest ever with almost 3,000 protests global, with over 36 million people taking apart with them. Today people can understand how the war is effecting others and how we need to stop it.
On the topic of religion, people suddenly were exposed to a number of religions explaining how there was not just one god world wide, but numerous with all having worshipers and all preaching the same love and peace messages. Of course religions mixed before the internet, but always had this 'them' mentality surrounding them.
This can be used on many many topics. Some of racism and how the internet has effected it for the better (I believe) or how two grieving teens can swap stories from across the world to give each other support. People have found friends and love online as well.
Of course not everything is roses though. People act like such fools sometimes claiming the only use is for porn. The percentage of porn online is slim; a lot less then someone would have guessed. People also spread false information for no reason other to push their own ideals. Then of course with everyone having access to this device, you have people with foul intent as well. Pedophiles, racist and sexist people spreading hate.
So how do you feel about the net? For the better or worse?
Do you feel that because of the internet that humans can advance forward or have we taken a step back as well?
