The internet, just like the new G.R.I.D. that is going to replace it, was developed by scientist for scientist to easily share research data.
First off, there is a LOT of porn on the internet. Second it wasn't made for porn(obviously) but there's no real problem with it being used for that, I see no problems with porn...just some naked people... I think the internet is good because it has something for everyone, be you a watcher of porn or not.
it gives people a wider choice. Before it was 'Communism is evil' now it's more 'is Communism evil?' We finally have a right and a medium to learn and make up our minds about these things.CK76 said:

It brought me here, which in my mind counters all the negative things it has done.
While I do hate the effect it has had on the english language and its spelling, I believe it has honestly done far more good than bad on the global scale(duh).
Sure, idiots can put up their opinions and present them as facts, people can abuse the connections it creates and gain information they were not meant to see, and general jackassery abounds, but most negatives can be dealt with by anyone with a scrap of common sense and the ability to retain it once given anonymity.
Plus, the connections that can be made with other people, as you noted, are very valuable, and fun to make most of the time. Honestly, I have more of a connection to some people on this site than I do in reality. True, I don't connect well in person, but still.
And I will probably be ninja'd here, but I have to say it: Avenue Q disagrees with you.

I'm of the opinion that the spread of the internet can bring about another renaissance in the same way that the spread of literacy did all those years ago. When people figure out that we're all pretty much the same, we can put aside our petty differences and really tackle the challenges that face us as a species.
The internet is like a hive mind. A conduit for opinions and unity. In my opinion, it's the greatest thing since we crawled from the primordial ooze.
Of course, you can dismiss that comment, because I'm young and clearly therefore inexperienced in the tragedies of life. Of course I am. I mean, you have to be over a certain age to truly appreciate anything and have your opinion valued, right?

The world wide web is one of the greatest inventions (I think that can be said here) in the majority of our life spans. It is a mechanism that brings people from around the world together and that can only be a good thing plus it does enable easy access to information. As with all yin you get yang as well so you get people who abuse the situation we find ourselves in thanks to the internet. Will the internet push humanity forwards or backwards? Who knows, all I do know is that I'm just taking everyday as it comes as one day when your walking down the street an asteroid could fall from the sky and kill you.
