There's a large part of me that really wants that to be the actual purpose behind this now.

Spoiler: Wow, I don't even know where this rant came from. In fact at some point it became kind of irrelevant. I spent about 10 minutes actually thinking and typing it out though, so I may as well post it.

Stuff like this Indiegogo page though... it makes the entire fandom seem loopy, which isn't necessarily the case. It's one thing to like a show or game or book series or whatever. It's alright to like these things a whole lot. If you happen to find other people who are just as into the same things as you then great! If the things you're into make you want to dress up as characters or draw or make music or film videos then even better! Nothing that encourages creativity (even if the end product isn't very good) is inherently a bad thing.

When members of a fandom start going to extremes like this though, it makes the entire fandom look bad instead of making the people who actually deserve to be mocked look bad. It's like when someone shoots up a school and says that they learned how by playing Call of Duty. Suddenly it isn't one unstable asshat that gets hated and criticized, but the entire gaming community (even the people who don't play Call of Duty) suddenly starts being scrutinized and criticized. Suddenly everyone has to pay because one or two people decided to be shitheads.

Actually they are using fixed funding meaning if they don't hit the goal they get nothing. Granted Indiegogo has this as an option rather than it being mandatory like Kickstarter but that's how this one is.
