...Why are all the fandoms I'm in insane? Am I attracted to them BECAUSE they're insane?

I had heard about this a few days back and took no notice of it because I thought it was a parody of kickstarter scams till other bronies told me that it was serious. This is a scam pure and simple and even if the starter is somehow honest about this, How the Hell would he go about doing this? And what the hell would it accomplish?

Honestly, I'm waiting for other fandoms to be "inspired" by this too.
Maybe some touhoufans can get together, buy an island and call it "Gensokyo"?
Or a harry potter fan will buy a castle and rebuild it into Hogwarts?

This has set a new level for insanity in fandoms and I'm glad to be part of the one that did

Here's where I found out about this.

And yes, Asaleri is a brony.
yeah that guy lost all credence with me when he started ripping on tropes vs women. As if that is the same thing as wanting to buy an island...

Unless of course, it's a front for weird science a la Jurassic Park. If someone wants to buy an island to Science me up some talking ponies? Godspeed.
Science + Island = Talking Ponies?

We need to tell Aperture Science about this shit!
The real question, is if technology exists to make talking ponies, why the fuck would we waste it on talking ponies and not...

Talking ponies can fit on islands. Clearly we will not be able to start any dinosaur laser fights until we can buy property in space.

I feel so bad for enjoying the show now. Why must the fans of shows I like be crazy? First ATLA, and now this!

Funny isn't it, haters see this shit and use it as an excuse to say that all of us bronies are neck bearded ass-holes who fuck cartoon ponies and try to shove it down their faces. Yet, the sheer amount of charity the brony fandom has done is amazing. The past few humble bundles have had the most money donated to them by guess what... BRONIES! Come back to me when the anime fandom, or any other fandom does that. There's a charity event almost weekly in the brony fandom, whereas in the gamer culture a charity event is bloody rare.

People like to look at stuff like this and not the good things. Not the countless stories about ill children, soldiers and people suffering from depression feeling happiness for once in years because of ponies and the fandom. They miss the stories like Lauren Faust (the creator of FiM) phoning up a disabled kid personally because he couldn't go to Bronycon to meet her. They don't see amazing, inspirational stuff like this because everyone loves to focus on jackasses like the people behind this:

Watch that, THEN tell me that bronies are all neck bearded assholes who and they're a fad that deserves to die.

Being a brony myself, I can personally say I'm baffled by the very idea. And not in a good way.
I can understand the documentary project (hell, it was De Lancie's decision), but this...? This is way too much, and far past the line of stupid. I didn't even believe it was real at first, but it does seem relatively legit. I sincerely hope it isn't.

I can understand that many people enjoy the show to various degrees, but they're taking it way too far with this if it's actually a real thing, even past various levels of obsession. I doubt even the most hardcore bronies could possibly consider this a good idea. Not just because of the responsibilities that'll come with it, but... Well, just think about it for a second. This isn't exactly a "pet project" when you get down to it. It's important to know your limits.

There are aspects and ideas in the brony fandom I won't even try to defend, and this is one of them. Even if they miracoulusly did manage to pull it off, I doubt there would be a bright future ahead of the project. It won't exactly put us in a better light, despite the burning dedication some might have to the show.

While I do love the show and many aspects of the fandom (such as some truly wonderful charity work and plenty of positive interaction), this has gone way too far.

Bronies and MLP is a fad that deserves to die.

But human kindness and empathy deserves to live and the exceptional individuals deserve more than just recognition within their individual fandom.

Are you being sarcastic? Because really, if bronies never existed then that would of never happened. The project in question was a charity album of about 50 songs made by 50 different people who did it for nothing. There was another one released called "Balloon Party" which got a shit ton of money donated for charity towards it. If "Bronies and MLP" died then this would of never happened, and if they died tommorrow then nothing like this would ever happen again.

So yeah... I hope you were being sarcastic.

Do you wonder when a someone has taken a fandom too far?

This is it.

Also, if it does happen, I vote that the rest of the world should glass it.
We need to build Covenant style war ships just to have the technology to glass this, Halo style! :p

And if Toastiest_Zombie reads this: We're joking, don't worry.

In any case, while to a fan this would seem awesome, let's say it happens.

What next? What the hell are they going to do with it? Fill it with ponies? That works on no level and would cost huge sums of money yet again.

In fact, there's nothing cool you can do with an island that doesn't necessitate actually being rich.

Yeah I know you're joking, I'm not stupid... well not VERY stupid. Ever heard of the site called "Funnyjunk"? I'm a regular on that site's pony thread and pretty much everyone replies to trolls who go "Hey horsefuckers how do you like fucking horses" with stuff like "well, they're very nice. Thanks for asking!".

It's good to laugh at yourself from time to time.

If this means that the idiots who supports this project gets shipped to the island, I think it is a great idea! We will just have to make sure they NEVER get back from that island.
Would be an interesting experiment as well! Come back to the island after it has been in isolation for a few hundred years, and see how their society has evolved.
