Guess who Luke Skywalker's father is?
Who is it?!?!?! It's Yoda isn't it? I knew it, fucking guy was all disciplinary towards Luke, had to be his dad.

OP: I think the reaper at the end was a terrible boss, I mean hell the 2 scions right before that thing are waaaaaay more difficult. As for the appearance it was just comical, all I could think of was the Terminator theme song. Overall it was kind of a serious let down, they built it up so much through the entire game and didn't deliver.

Are you guys kidding me?

That space terminator has to be the stupidest thing I've seen in games in a long time, and the twist ending was a giant let down, especially since the entire game was building up to it.

Yeah, ME2 is a great game, but stop fooling yourselves...that ending sucked a big one...=/

That's one of the few bits of Mass Effect 2 I didn't like! Starships do not work that way! The design makes exactly zero sense in the construction of a starship, stupid reapers...
Reapers aren't ships. They are basically giant all knowing, all powerful cyborgs. Which for some reason has the insides that mimic a ship. But its not one.
I realise that, but the problem is that it still needs to operate as a starship, as in travel at velocities greater than light, carry propellent, manoeuvre successfully and so forth. Something that is built a bit like a human would be rubbish! Although massively advanced technologies would change your requirements slightly, it still doesn't make a huge amount of sense, did make for fairly cool looking (if slightly silly) boss fight at the end though.

I agree with Froggy about the whole suicide mission. I own the strategy guide and read up on how to survive. I survived EVERYTHING except the random chance parts.

I raged. I raged hard.

Glad I wasn't the only one who looked at it and went 'Terminator'. I was actually quite disappointed when the Larva came to life, I would have preferred fight some uber-Collector that was trying to defend it or launch it to a secure facility away from Shepard's team.

I did however love the plot twist that Harbinger was actually a Reaper in dark space controlling the Collectors, thought it was brilliant (and slightly sad) how in the end he completely f**ks the Collectors over and abandons them.

Yeah, I have the arc projector as well, but it's the swarming husks that piss me off. I figured I could hide in a truck and flamethrower the bastards single file.... And the flamethrower would work wonders on the scions... but then I'd be pretty screwed when the praetorian came around... though having zaeed with his grenade canister would help...
Well that Vindicator sniper rifle probably saved my hide, so I'd definitely recommend you give it a try.

And remember: victory is well worth it there. Satisfaction abounded after I beat the praetorian. Then Ashely came and ruined it by shouting at poor ol' Shepherd, who'd just gone and saved her life practically, but it was good for the moment.

My flamethrower strategy worked really well, I only had to use 2 medi-gel in both fights combined. But thanks for the tip about aiming at the husk midsections, they dropped like flies with the flamethrower aimed at their balls :).

i agree, its kind of tragic in a way that the protheans were haversted, manipulated and then abandonned

Best I can figure it, the fact that the Reapers are collecting humans to make a human-like reaper is because humans showed themselves pretty strongly as able to repulse their initial invasion attempt. Being creatures that exploit valuable resources, the building of a creature that incorporates human DNA was to either exploit the resourcefulness and never-say-die attitude of the human mind, its imagination as a strategic advantage, or something appropriately sci-fi such as that.

Or, we just offended them so badly they wanted to create a killing machine in our image as no more than some sort of insult.

*shrugs* hopefully 3 will shed some light on their motivations beyond this whole "we're so advanced you can't understand our motives" cop-out. Not a fan of that one... makes them sound like the freakin' Mooninites.

*Wonders* From what I gathered from what I played of ME1, the Reapers we're space ships or just very big robots? Hmmm... *thinks she's gona play the game to the end after all*
The reapers are sentinent life forms that are a complex mix between muscle and machine.

OT:It was an okay boss battle. But I like the one from ME1 a lot more. It's was just so much more personal, seeing as how you get to know Saren, unlike that terminator thing.

Yeah, I have a whole love-hate thing with the final boss in ME2. When I first saw it as you make your approach I had this whole sense of "phwoar" one second and then the next was "Wait, I thought I was playing a Mass Effect game, not Castlevania." Further the battle while visually impressive was nowhere near as intense as the core of the suicide mission just prior. Hell, even the whole assault you had between Shepard's "Hoorah" speech and actually getting to Super-Sized Skeletor was more intense than the final boss.

But all things considered, the rest of the game more than made up for that brief moment of silliness. I just hope Bioware decides to keep the Reapers in ME3 the more Nautilus-From-Space-Hell variety.

Protheans of course. Some got converted to crazy insect freakazoids and the rest reduced to Omni-gel. ;P

How crazy is it that almost right after beating the game, I find this forum on the Escapist? Is that weird, or is it just me?

Anyway, I thought the final fight was pretty bad ass. There was definitely a moment of total awe when I first saw it, then a moment of total "I just shit myself" when it started moving and trying to kill me!

Ended that battle on a high note though. After pecking away at its health for like 10 minutes, I finally pull out the M-920 Cain, and nuke that mother! A fantastic way to end a fantastic game!

Mass effect 3: Shepard travels back in time to save himself from being killed by liquid metal Reapers, so that he can continue to exist and defeat the Reapers in the future. Also, Grunt says, "I'll be back", and drives a car through a police station.
