I've been reading through a thread about norse mytholigy, and the name Thor came up, and that had me wondering; Do people know the meaning of their names?

I happen to know that Andreas Frederiksen means "Man, son of peace-ruler", so if you know what your name means, feal free to post it.

I have no idea what my surname means but 'Jason' means 'Healer'.

"From the Greek name Ιασων (Iason), which was derived from Greek ιασθαι (iasthai) "to heal"."

It's almost ironic really.

Well, my first name, Ben, means son. That's all I know and I don't feel like looking up my last name.

Is it short for Benjamin?, because that comes from Arabic for "Son of the Right Hand (of God)" as Bin in Arabic is "son of", if I remember correctly, so the name Benjamin was originally Bin-Jamin or simialr and has become Benjamin as it's filtered down into the English language over hundreds of years.

RAYMOND
Gender: Masculine

Usage: English, French

Pronounced: RAY-mənd (English), ray-MAWN (French) [key]

From the Germanic name Reginmund, composed of the elements ragin "advice" and mund "protector". This name was introduced to England by the Normans in the form Reimund. It was borne by several medieval (mostly Spanish) saints, including Saint Raymond Nonnatus, the patron of midwives and expectant mothers, and Saint Raymond of Peñafort, the patron of canonists.

Guillaume, which is William, which is actually Wilhelm.

''Will helm'', or ''he who will helm''.

Waste of words, if you ask me

Will-Helm (Wilhelm - name) is German for "would like to helmet" just about. No idea on anything other than that.

Adam. Anyone who has so much as heard of Christianity should have an idea what it means. It can mean either, "Man", as in the first man, or, "Earth". Oh yeah, I'm bad ass.

My last name can mean "Red", but I prefer to go with the meaning, "King".

My name's Dominic and it supposedly means "Of the Lord" and was traditionally given to people born on a Sunday. Despite the fact that I was born on a Thursday.
