aside from those others have already said I am I am gonna have to throw my vote for badass villain to van kleiss from generator rex
because the most important part of being a badass is attitude and he could write the book on it

He...looks like Orochimaru...

Which is freaking awesome.

Alex Mercer from Prototype. Yes, I am aware you play as him, it doesn't make him any less of a complete monster.
He literally just broke shit. There was nothing to it. Hell, Bane from Batman was a better villain.

BANE

The one thing I'm sick of in the media is portraying him as a fucking idiot! He's not, Ra's al Ghul even says his mind is the eqaul to the Goshdamn BATMAN, hell he even play devil advocate to Catman and Ragdoll on the subject of love. But you say: what about the venom? He's hadn't used that shit since 1995, hell he made a OATH not to loose it again. So what do that leave you? A strong, smart man capable of fighting off batman? The one time I thought they avert bane being used with venom was Arkham Asylum, due to the fact he was forced to do. Hopefully, Bane will return to his badass Non-venom using self. Doesn't that explain why I love this son of a *****? He too damn awesome NOT to used.

I believe your caps lock is broken...

Wesker is the ultimate tool. Seriously, was any of that ever considered "cool"?

Best villain? Darth Revan. He turned a metric fuckton of Jedi into sith. Hell, the Emperor could only turn Vader, and that was when he was in megabitch mode.

Lelouch Vi Britannia.
Depends on how you look at him as to whether he is a villain, despite being the protagonist. Just like Light Yagami, but on a grander scale.
I wouldn't really call him a villain, more of a corrupted idealist. But giving a more accurate discription would probably spoil the entire show for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.
I've only finished watching the show myself a few days ago, so all I'll say is: Well played Lelouch, well played indeed!
not corrupted..more of a demented kind of way. still i agree..well played LL.

and Nosferatu? why not griffith?
Well, even before his betrayel I never really considered Griffith a badass, just very egomaniacal. And after his betrayel he stops having any real character traits and basically becomes the anti-Christ.

As for Zodd: In a world where every demonic creature rapes any woman that comes in their field of vision, Nosferatu Zodd is the only Apostle with some honor and dignity. Sure, he kills people by the hundreds, but he's not a scum-sucking slimebag like the rest of 'm.

Plus, I just freaking love the way he looks when he's in his beat form.

Oh, god, so many.

Angelus is a psycho serial-killer vampire.

And Dr. Horrible... does this. (He is technically a villain, shut up!)

Darth Maul was pretty hardcore, even though he didn't have much screen time.

And Dexter is definitely badass, though his status as a villain is debatable. Not to mention a Magnificent Bastard.

Honestly, as a student of the art of badassery, I could go on like this all day, but I think that's enough for now.

I assume, then, that you consider Horatio from CSI: Miami to be utterly badass as well?

after reading your comment and researching Darth Revan, i've got to change my answer from Vicious to Darth Revan he's like badass personified! and Vicious can be second most badass.

I've always been a big fan of the Man in Black from LOST. He's ridiculously persuasuve, so if he talk to you, chances are he'll find a way to make you do what you want. Oh, and he's completely immortal and invincible. And can turn into a smoke monster.

Archimonde.

He made a sandcastle. He then destroyed it. That day one of the coolest and most important cities in Azeroth was destroyed.
But you're forgetting that he was defeated by a bunch of wisps >.>

OT: Luca Blight from Suikoden II
A bunch?

There were billions, I say!

And they were hacking. They upped the explosion damage to 1 billion. It's true, I heard it on the internet.

OT: Kefka and Sephiroth are both great villains for polar opposite reasons and The Joker is also brilliant.
Me and SimuLord (no, I'm not gonna say SimuLord and I) just had this discussion. If you could combine two geat RPG charactes to make one... Those are the two (three, counting the Joker). Throw in some Soze, SquareEnix could breathe some new life into the Final Fantasy series.
Wouldn't be a bad idea but the problem would be juggling the two personallities. You have the bat shit insane in your face Kefka with the behind the scenes/shadows manipulator Sephiroth. If done right I think it would probably be the best or at least up there FF(or just in general) villain in a long time.
