For me, the first time i stood on top of a mountain in Oblivion and saw the Imperial City waay down below. That place looks incredible from far away.
Or, in Fallout 3, the first time a ghoul ran at me and i shot it in the face with my hunting rifle, causing its head to blow up. I saw its eye fly over my shoulder. That was a very good moment.
I think i love Bethesda.. I can't wait for TES 5 and the rumoured Fallout 3 MMO. <3
welcome the escapist.
i have to say i did that to a ghoul aswell and it was freaking awesome. i still havent finshed fallout 3 but i may just now youve reminded me of awesome head explosions

Without question, when you emerge from the first dungeon in Oblivion and are greeted by the most amazing scenery imaginable. Beautiful.

Pretty much any sight in the last Prince of Persia. It was all just beautifully drawn. In Medieval2:Total War after some battles it was nice just to look around and see all the people who just died.

Oh and WoW: it's just such a beautiful world to explore, not from the technology point of view but it is artistically flawless.

I can't believe no one's mentioned the Citadel Core in HL2 Episode one. I had just gotten a new graphics card, so I finally got to see all the flashy DX9 effects in the Source engine. That thing could hypnotize you, it was so beautiful. I was almost sad when you had to power it down.

The scenery and visuals in the Halo games are truly amazing and beautiful, especially the ones on the Halos themselves. Some of those sights are breathtaking.

Walking into crystal song forest in WOW, sitting back and just admiring the sight.

Also trekking up into the mountains of Cyrodiil, and looking out over the beautiful landscape, on full graphics.

Many people might of said this but..

Exiting Vault 101 in Fallout 3 for the first time, it's pretty epic, and you begin to drink in the beautiful yet depressing and harsh landscape

Every cut scene in Halo Wars made me drool. Hell, that whole /game/ made me drool.

The first thing you see when exiting the sewers of Oblivion... Damn, such bright sunlight...

Watching Megaton explode in Fallout 3 was a thing of beauty.

Me bashing in noobs' faces on Live... Playing Halo 3, of course.

Definite +1 on Oblivion, even before I left the sewer. I remember the first time I bumped into the shackles hanging from the ceiling by a chain and seeing them swing around realistically, and thinking, "wow, this is really something new."

And +1 on SoTC - riding the horse out of the temple into the sunlight for the first time, or jumping onto the 1st collossus and seeing all that fur... then the camera swinging around wildly as he tries to shake you off. Incredible. They really need to do a high-def remake of this game.

Going back to older, less obvious moments - has anyone here ever played a PC game called Giants Citizen Kabuto? I'll never forget the first time I ran off a cliff in that game and hit the jetpacks, then landed in the plains below with all the wildlife running around me... It would probably seem quaint now, but it was a total headrush then (late 90's?)

I also vaguely remember a game called Drakan from the same period. I remember it's being so-so overall, but there was one moment running out of a cave into the moonlight and jumping into a body of water, and just getting an overwhelming impression of "being there". Those things stay with me.

A skyline covered in foolish snipers seen through the scope on a Barrett fifty-cal.
