Try this one [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzg2jjH2z8E], it's predictable, but still pretty depressing.

Ed, Edd, and Eddy. It seems very juvenile and fun, but, when you think about it, it is just 3 boys that everyone hates who try to con others so they can finally buy food.
You know i never thought about it that way, makes sense. Wow that is depressing.
Wow, that's very true. I also thought Rugrats was a pretty damn sad cartoon. Every episode was an adventure in child neglect.

As for the saddest cartoon ever, I'd have to say (in a shameless bit of self promotion) Prostitute Mickey and its sequel.

An anime that in my country was named Gamba. Never have antropomorphic animals(mice, or whatever kind of rodents they were) been put in such metaphorical grinders than in that cartoon.

Picture 28 days later but exchange the survivors for mice and the infected for weasels and you get the drift. Now lock them all up in a small island with limited resources and few places to hide and you got Gamba.

uhhh... not so much a series as a movie... i cannot for the life of me remember the name of it... but it was like woodland animals and at one point there was like a toxic spill that killed some of the animals.. or all... lol depressing shit when your a little kid...
Umm not sure if its the same thing your talking about but that reminds me of Happy Tree Friends. That isn't really depressing though just a gore fest. Or at least it was the last time I watched it which was about four years ago. Don't know what direction they've taken that in now.

Futurama, more preciesly, Jurassic Bark episode.

I assume you watched it, if not, you probably regret it... Anyway, in that episode, Fry (protagonist) finds a fossile of his dog from the year 2000. He tries to bring him back to life, meanwhile, we get to see a lot of scenes from their life - where they met, how did they spend time and play.

Then, Fry realises that his dog was fossiled at the age of 15 - so basically, he died 12 years after Fry was frozen. He knows that this dog wouldn't be happy, that he had a new life, new owners and has learned a lot new trick already...

But the truth was a lot sadder, and that makes me cry - the dog waited for Fry to come back, every single day, rain or snow, not moving from the place Fry worked at. God, why did I remind myself of how sad that was...
I've seen this episode like 4 times.. It's so sad..
plus the clover episode where Fry's brother took his name to make him known after he disappeared by going through time.

HAS NO ONE HERE SEEN "WATERSHIP DOWN"?!?

Think post-apocalyptic journey by way of talking bunnies, full of analogies and allusion.

I dare you not to get misty in the end.

:::I missed Orca's mention of W:D, but still... they used to show that at school, even.:::

....You suck. I had a dog for 18 years, and I had to have him put down. The same day, this episode came on. It's been almost two years, and I still cannot watch that episode without breaking down and crying like a little girl.

.....I miss my dog.

Would that be "Animals of Farthing Wood" by any chance?
I thought it was 'Once Upon a Forest'. A truck crashed and its toxic gas spread to kill most of the woodlanders. The rest either ran or had been absent at the time - and led on to the protagonists finding a cure. Wasn't 'Animals of Farthing Wood' about their habitat being destroyed, and everyone decides to try and find a new home in White Deer Park?

I can name a TV show, I can name an anime, I can name a movie, but cartoon? The whole point of cartoons is to be funny, not depressing. If I had to decide... it was probably Pingu. I don't know why, but when I remember all the shows I watched as a kid, that one makes me feel sad. I guess it was the no talking that got me...

The anime Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, or 'Rumbling Hearts'. The first episode was like a standard romance... and then after that it changed.

I loved that epi, the other futurama epi where he thinks his brother Yantsee stole his name and dream of being the first man on mars but it turns out to be his nephew named after fry, and the Simple Minds song at the end from BC, still brings a tear...
